Every car needs care and maintenance and nowadays a good scan tool and ideally a PC with mapping software (for the Landies) when travelling remotely. Some essential spares and a Sat phone are also a must
Keep posting updates. I have enjoying overlanding and camping with this new Defender. A little hit and miss in places, but its proven itself as a capable beast as you upgrade and modify things.
Hi Bruce. I'm an Aussie who drives a 2008 110 Defender. It's been driven in every state and territory in Australia on all sorts of roads and tracks. I've just ordered a D300 110 so your views are of great interest to me. The old girl (Defender that is) will probably be kept. My seat covers are Melville and Moon and are just now wearing out after 14 years and the front seat base only.
Hi Mahn. You are going to love it. There is less packing space admittedly but every thing else is better. I hope to travel Australia one day. I have family there. In two weeks I am doing a big trip to Zimbabwe and Botswana. It is going to be a big test for the New Defender. I will be attempting another video after the trip so please watch out for that. All the best with your purchase and thank you for watching and commenting.
Just subscribed. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing how you build out the ND. I am also in the market for a ND here in Germany. Planning to build a minimalistic overlander with RTT
Awesome Bruce! Sure it’s going to bring you many kilometres of happiness. I’ve only done a handful of Southern Africa trips, all with defenders, then a I did 6000km through Namibia with a disco 4 se, enjoyed it so much, sold the defender and got a disco. Fitted Tuffant 18 inch steel rims. And I see they do a 18inch alloy for the new defender as well. Cheers mate.
Absolute awesome vehicle👍 I drive a Heritage 2016 Defender and my wife drives the new 110 Defender. Let’s face it, any of the bakkies in the SA market are good enough for over landing. We prefer the Front Runner roof rack to the LR OEM roof rack.
Agree 100% Fergus. Also agree about the roof rack for accessories but the OEM ones do look the business. Will see if I end up changing. Thank you for watching and commenting
I really appreciate the comment about your parents Morris minor traveller. I have unsubscribed to a lot of 4wd channels because they purchase everything for their vehicles turning the rough and tumble and joy of adventure into a commodity, but then again I always preferred cycle touring, carrying all I needed on the bike. I did sometimes put the bike into the back of my series III but liked to push my mind and body to the limit. Now I am 60 and want a bit of comfort, so I am going to get a Royal enfield himalaya, as I can't justify spending tens of thousands on any vehicle, as much as I love Land rovers, and I can still carry all my gear but get up those steep slopes. Thank you for your common sense approach.
It’s a pleasure. The main reason for my comment is to show people that you can go out there with the basics and that they don’t need all the fancy gear in order to have a great trip. Unfortunately some people are lead to believe a lot is needed when it’s not. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Hi Scott. Thank you for commenting and subscribing. My sister and her family now live in NZ. Stunning country you live in, that I hope I can explore one day. What spec did you order?
We'd love to have you! Ive gone with the 110 SE D300. The big boy diesel! I'm also on the look out for a thin hardtop tent - there's a Roof Nest one that is looking like a contender at the moment. It will be featuring on our RU-vid channel Overland NZ as soon as it gets here
Ahhh, the channel I have been waiting for. I am also moving from my old Defender (which I will keep) to a new Defender which should arrive in the next month or so. I’ve specced down from 20inch to 19imch with the off-road tires. Extras include the compressor, undershield and snorkel. All geared towards overlanding. Will be following your mods with keen interest. For a temp water/fuel solution (for a trip along the skeleton coast next year), I was thinking Molly plates on the side with rotopax.
Hi Grant. Thank you so much for responding and following, and for the added pressure :) I have done quite a bit of investigation on tyres which I will be covering in my next episode. I will also be showing the dual battery system. I hope its of benefit to you. How long is your trip along the skeleton coast and how many people?
I'm not a Landy person but your content got me hooked. This is my first episode on your channel (I did subscribe). I am looking forward to see what the new guy is capable of. From where I am standing it is nothing compared to the old one. It took LR decades to replace the old man. I will be following you from now on. Ohhhh, I am a Hilux fan BTW.
Awesome thank you Zweli. Wait for the Zimbabwe episode. I’m currently traveling in Zim. It’s one for the record books and the New Defender is absolutely brilliant. Hilux’s are also awesome
@@OverlandingwithBruce Awesome, I have the notifications on for the Zim trip. Do you have a walk-around of the Jimny? I don't see a lot of it in your episodes, my wife likes it.
Hi Bruce, congratulation with the new Landy. Glad to see the 130 did not get the boot to make room for the new Landy. Which engine did you get? I have seen that G4 have a lot of experience working on the new Defender, agree with you they are great. My brother is very happy with his BF’s on his new Defender, they also look amazing. I understand that Ross has made some modification to the back of their Landys to carry 2 jerries, for their trip up through Africa to Wales. Glad to hear you are still waving, as i am waving when in my Landy at the new Defenders…..🤣😎. Wishing you many happy kms in the new Defender, 🍻🍺 ian
Hi Ian. Thank you for watching. I couldn’t bring myself to getting rid of the 130. I’ve put too much effort into it and am quite attached to it. G4/Tino and Eddie do brilliant work and really take pride in what they do and have done a few ND so mine is booked for Thursday. Will look at the BFG’s thank you. Thank you again for watching and commenting. All the best
@@OverlandingwithBruce you have got he best of both worlds. The luxury of the new modern defender is the positive in getting to the destination before requiring the 4x4 capabilities. The downside i think is the limited space for trips vs, old defender 110 and 130 (especially yours). When you do go on you solo trips, I am sure you are going to want to go in the 130 😎…. But both pull the trailer with no swear.
Great vid Bruce! Im in Australia ordered a 110 D300. probably another 6-8 months till delivery. Interested to get your opinion on the 110 D300. All the best!
Thank you David. Mine is the D240 but that D300 is so much better. More torque and I think it’s also quieter. It’s a long time to wait but it’s worth the wait. What colour did you order? Thank you for commenting and watching
@@OverlandingwithBruce Thanks Bruce for the reply, I chose the Pangea Green with roof rack, ladder, wheel arches & snorkel. Certainly worth the wait, I really enjoy your vids and look forward to more. All the best 😊
@@davidslim1718 thanks so much David. I love that colour and would love to have had it but it didn’t work out. I will be doing another video after our first proper trip next month where we will be exploring some areas in South Eastern Zimbabwe. Thanks again for the support mate and all the best.
Thank you very much. I haven't decided yet but will probably apply a VPS type product. Only received one quote so far and its actually almost cheaper to respray the vehicle if it gets damaged than fit the film :)
get the metal Front Undersheild from Land Rover, it will be more durable than the plastic, it's easy to install, and it exposes the front recovery point
Thank you for that. Funny enough I found it also. Unfortunately they don’t have stock but hopefully will have soon. Thank you for the suggestion and thank you for watching Chancey
Hi Bruce Love the video, im one "die hart" customer, just traded my Disco 5 for a Defender P400x. You mentioned a toer in Zimbabwe 2022. Can I have more details regarding this trip? il even bring a bunch of soccer balls with.
Hi Floris. Thank you for watching. We are doing a trip as a family to Great Zimbabwe Ruins and Gonarezhou. I’m not doing a guided tour or anything. Thank you for commenting and watching.
I will definitely be doing all of those including Mabua and a few other places. Have done them all several times in various vehicles so am very confident in this one. Watch this space👍
@@OverlandingwithBruce if you get the P400 then your option is 20” rim…which you can buy BFGoodrich KO2’s….if you get the smaller engine the your option is 18” rim which is better for off-roading tires. I have the P400 with the Goodyear Wrangler tires which will be replaced in 20K miles. Looking forward to your build out videos! cheers
Found you via the defender2.net forum. 👍I got my L663 during lockdown in 2020, so it's good to see someone using one for overlanding. I look forward to seeing future episodes. Oh, and as an ex-old Tdi 90 driver I've waved at Landy drivers old and new, hardly any wave back. 😞
Haha thank you Steve. I hear you about the wave but I still try and won’t give up. Thanks so much for sharing arching and commenting. I am currently traveling Zimbabwe. Can’t wait to share the trip. It’s an epic one
