A 20 yr old with no military training was able to identify a vantage point for an attempt, but professionals with probably tons of training and experience couldn’t? Strange!

Just a guess, but it’s likely because most people do not care about politics. Most are immigrants whose number one priority tends to be who has the most lax immigration policies so that they can get their relatives into Canada. The biggest threat in Canada tends to be the religion of peace variety like their plans to attack parliament that got foiled.
The news make it clear, not everybody is an online addict, and specially if the individual was an outcast so didn't have social media accounts. Precisely they said nothing from his digital history is suspicious or explanatiory of his act.

The answe as to why may well come down to a major but unnoticed mental health issue that festered during adolscents when he was unable to formulate a way to let anyone know something was wrong and so he exhibited behaviors unnoticed by adults, as even educators will bush off certain behaviors as kids just being shy or not goid at siocisl interaction, while peers pick up on the fact thst something is wrong and odd and oddness tends to get uou bullied as peers often see that as a way to make someone stop making them feel uncomfortable. Once into adulthood with more freedoms to explore, some like this will end up placing blame for their issues even on someone who actually is saying thing they should feel hopeful about. It would be interesting to know if his classmates tended to lean left politically and if he was a secret Trump supporter. If so, Biden's unrelenting demonizadtion of Trump may well have gotten through to him and he suddenly decided that if Biden was right about Trump being about to destroy everything, that was what was causing him to not be able to function and that may have built to the point wherevsonething like Biden's bullseye comment spoke directly to him and how he could save the world now that he hsd found out that the man he admired was, as Jill said, "evil" and needed to be prevented from changing all he knew. In a way its a form of self radicilization driven by mental illness that had gotten out of control. Its interesting that his father bought the rifle in 2013, and then a classmate saud he was blocked from thebschool's rifle teM because he was such a bad shot as to be a danger. This possibly connects some need for a connection or approval with his father, and that needs to be explored, as does how he managed to improve his rifle handling in 6 years without us hearing information on how he was regularly practicing and/or taking firearm lessons. Certainly there are people that cant shoot well enough to get on rifle teams, but usually teams for adolscents will give them a place, maybe not for completion but at least for training as most instructors know that consistent drilling and practise can make marked improvement. To bar a student from a team with something so harsh as "dangerous to everyone around him" which a classmate said, demands some deep digging too. If that was the case the marksman instructor saw sonething that told him there was no hope of making him come close to hitting a target let alone not a risk to everyone on the range. That really is soneone who would never be expected to improve. So how did he come so close to making his shot. Yes he was less than 200 yards but he was still far enough away that it would have bern a hopeless shot for someone said to be that bad. What happened in 6 years that changed that? I think he may actually have thought he hit Trump as Trump through himself down, and the other shots were his attempt to add mass shooting to his bio as well as assassination. Given it does not appear he left a manifesto behind, there is a good chance that finally hearing over and over since the debate as Biden went from raging at one event to another with his demonization of Trump and all the horrid things Trump will do, in an attempt to turn around his debate performance, convinced him that Trump was his nemesis and he heard many if the same things many of us heard that we worried might sent a mentally ill person off. When even talk show left sided media types took the bullseye comment to mean Trump should be shot and lead to on air discussions of how different the world might have been had Hitler been killed before he could rule Germany and we consider these people to be sane and just waxying philosophical frkm their political pov, hiw can we expect someone with major mental health issues not to take it as a suggestion to be carried out.
