@@botrytis_cinerea It’s not. The Dior Homme 2020 EDT is described by the Dior website as a woody fragrance. No iris in the formulation. The Dior Homme Intense and Parfum flankers are the same notes formulation but in the updated 2020 bottle. But it is increasingly difficult to find the flankers at traditional retail in the U.S. The “vintage” EDT 2005/2011 with the iris (or at least it’s successor) is still in production under the Dior Homme Original name sporting the 2011 bottle. All three can be found on the EU Dior website but not the US.

1st edition was a rejected female Chanel that Jacque polge made , his son allegedly took it and tweaked it and Dior got an absolute masterpiece

I remember well purchasing the first iteration of this scent at the Dior Boutique on 57th Street in New York. It’s the ONLY fragrance in the past forty years that has lured me away from the Chanel line.

Excellent review Dacob !! I bought one month ago the latest Dior Homme Intense and was a bit disappointed because it was rather harsh and not so sweet as the prvious version...thanks to you I will buy Dior Homme Original, because I lovvvvve the lipstick in it...if you know better brands that have this lipstick note, you are welcome to share it :) Again, a huge thanks !

So the start of my journey to the original iris formulation of Dior Homme was because of the comments section for the new woody Dior Homme EDT. They were lamenting the loss of the “Jamie Dornan” (he was the face of the fragrance back in 2005) version. Let us call the latest woody one as the “Robert Pattinson” version. So let’s just say I am neutral as I have not had a chance to smell the majesty of the original 2005. Traditional retail did not have the “Dornan” version and only the new “Pattinson” one. Luckily one of my local Sephora’s mistakenly had the “Dornan” tester and wow what a buttery gourmet fragrance! I ended up finding two bottles of Dior Homme Intense which are nice as I could finally experience the iris that so many people are so fond of. But I might be in the minority and prefer the EDT Dior Homme Original since the Intense does not quite have that same buttery gourmet smell base to it. Unfortunately due to shipping restrictions it is difficult for me to acquire the 2020 Dior Homme Original that you are reviewing. Lastly, the Pattinson version is a fine fragrance. Just Dior should have started a new line for it. I also suspect the 2005/2011 iris formulation might have not sold as well in the United States. So they opted for a more woody fragrance with the Pattinson version to suit the market of mass appeal here. Which is a shame because there is so many woody fragrances for men (*cough* Blue de Chanel *cough*) available. I prefer the original iris fragrance and it’s successors which broke ground back in 2005.

I almost bought it a while ago but I was short of funds and I haven't got around to it. However, this review has inspired me to acquire it. Thank you for another epic review. This perfume is now back on my To Be Acquired As Soon As Possible list!

I can’t believe I missed this live! I wish I could’ve shared my experience with Dior Homme alongside you. Wonderful review, Dacob! How refreshing to hear your thoughts about this fresh batch, and how it has remained as close to the OG as it possibly can be. I’m “nursing” my Dior Homme (original) that I’ve had a few years now, because I can’t seem to get my hands on it after the 2020 release. Is this one also made available on the US Dior website from time and time again? I did see it in the France website, but not in US... xo, - David

Dave ,from what I understand is that all of the North American sites are not going to carry it at all, so you won’t be able to get anything but on the new version, 🤮 I just got mine in today and had to order it from France through News Parfums.

This one is a mystery... keeps not being readily available but it doesn't mean the situation will not change. Dior might change their marketing and distribution strategy soon.

Due to the unavailability of this perfume in the US website, I contacted the Parfums Christian Dior customer service line, and was informed (by what I can only assume as an uninformed representative) that Dior Homme Original is discontinued. I told her that the perfume was readily available in the French website, to which she replied that they cannot make available stock products from other countries. I became angry and frustrated, and decided to write an email to the Parfums Dior customer service to confirm whether this product is indeed discontinued... I am still waiting for their “prompt” response. Needless to say, I’m frustrated and angry with their treatment and I feel like I want to tweet about Dior’s oh so “caring” service...

@@SuperDacob I watch a lot of youtube and never in my life i got so much commercials in 1 review. ever. And as i know the RU-vidr itself sets the Commercials And as i unterstand you get the money how much people are watching and how many subscribers you have. But do as you like i wont add your channel or keep watching thats all i say and all i can do from my part. And in my country we have no commercials at the 2 Top Stations between movies and in normal movies we get around 5 commercials in 120 minutes. But when i stream i see nothing at all. But no harm done. Its just what made me not watch the whole video. Nothing more and nothing less.

But being into the money when beginning the channel is never a good thing. But as i said its just an opinion. You could generate money on different ways with i dont know, give away a prize or let people ask something for money? I also dont like that but at least i am paying for something.

I finally got this one. It's really nice. To me it's almost a flanker of Dior Homme. Where did you get the notes for this, because I can't seem to find them anywhere? The Dior website only lists Tuscan Iris, Cardamom and Vetiver. I feel like the beginning was quite different from the other batches of Dior Homme I know, and after a bit I feel confident saying it's a blast of cardamom. The lavender and iris are really toned down to me as well, and overall I get a nice lingering herbal quality to it. I do suspect the iris in this one will never quite match the lipstick note of previous formulations, but it's lovely none-the-less. Have you gotten a chance to smell the more recent batches of Dior Homme Parfum. I finally bit the bullet and got a bottle. Curious what you might think of it, but to me I couldn't help but notice a similarity between it and Tobacolor.

I have Dior Homme EDT 2019 batch, I am curious to know how does Dior Homme Original 2020 smells? I am looking for a backup bottle of Dior Homme EDT 2019 but can't find it, If I manage to buy Dior Homme Original 2020, do they both have similar smell & notes? specially the lip sticky Iris?

No. It has a make up accord from the iris. Not warm in a cacao way.

Mr. Dacob, Thanks for your thoughts. I did want to buy a new Original bottle to avoid using my older formulations. I have two near finished old bottles, a 30ml and a 50 ml (not quite first edition-around 2009-2011). They both smell a bit different from each other, but near identical (the older bottle more chocolatey.) They were never super diffusive, but still project well. Sadly, I am "forbidden" from buying Dior Homme Original by its own creators. I will order Jules soon before they take it away as well (I am referring to the US website, where they want to force this new Dior Homme on us, with the foolish "I'm your man" ad with the absurd "manly" model.) This silly focus on masculines vs feminines in the US has ruined it for us (the office people making these business choices are really out of touch, or perhaps just do not consider perfume lovers as their true customer base.) I do agree with you on the formulations thing. Generally tend to buy the latest batches of anything. Not going for vintages, unless the fragrance is discontinued. Buying the latest versions at least gives my "vote of confidence" to the manufacturer, so with luck they may not discontinue my favorites. New formulations can be different, but worth exploring, for better or worse. I do find your opinion not consistent with your previous stance on Chanel Les Exclusifs, as you appear to prefer the unobtainable EdTs. I just imagine they never existed, and try to enjoy the new versions for what they are. Currently interested in N°22, as it smells wonderful even in its last iteration (in my humble opinion-please feel free to disagree in peace.) Thanks for your clear passion about Chanel, and many of your other favorites. Stay safe, and thanks for your video contributions. (Wish I could order Homme Original from Dior USA!)

Hello Mr. Adel. Thanks for your comment. Let me clear up what seems to be a misunderstanding: There is a BIG difference between reformulations of fragrances and differences in CONCENTRATIONS. Reformulations deliver the same CONCENTRATION as before the reformulation but the formula itself varies for several reasons, mostly due to use of different ingredients or cuts on ingredients. The Les Exclusifs range was NOT reformulated! The Les Exclusifs collection, which existed only in EDT concentration (with a few PARFUM exceptions), was DISCONTINUED and re-introduced in a totally different CONCENTRATION: eau de parfum. I MUCH prefer the EDT concentrations of the LES EXCLUSIFS collection to the EDP concentrations. This has nothing to do with reformulations. No reformulations took place. Having said that, let me also clear another misunderstanding: I do not dislike all EDP Les Exclusif fragrances. I, for example, LOVE N°22 EDP, LA PAUSA EDP and GARDENIA EDP.

I also do not understand why DIOR is not making it as available, gosh how could they shove it away for the new DIOR HOMME, I tested it and it is as meh as meh can be, really. DIOR HOMME ORIGINAL is -- just as for some other countries -- not available on the Russian DIOR website, it's a shame. Thankfully, I have purchased myself a 50ml tester bottle of DIOR HOMME that dates back to 2013; when it came in the mail and I sprayed it for the first time, the perfume smelled kind of off but after I let it chill in my cabinet, for a week or so, it has turned into the beautiful iris everybody was talkin' about. For some reason it does not last very long but who cares, right? It is still very intense. One day I wore it to a barbershop and the poor lady that did my hair was kinda like wooooofff you put a lot of perfume on boy, the fact is I did just a couple o' sprays, that is what 7 years of brewing, changing and evolving does to a perfume, huh. I am so afraid to use it 'cause it's only 50 ml. haha. By the way, the bottle makes it look like there's so little liquid in there, which is why I am even more hung up on preserving it. The point you made about embracing what we have and not hang on to the past too much is very much relevant. Many people who love perfumes are just too obsessed with batch codes and stuff -- silly. Chile, just chill for a moment. Especially this infamous talk about Creed Aventus batch codes... gosh... We should welcome the change, even if it is not for the best. Life is all about changing. I hope your video might *change* someone's stand towards the phenomenon of change in the pefume world.

I have the same batch 0K03. I really dislike the opening... My 2019 batch (9D01) had an amazing opening. I’m torn with the ”original” batches. It smells more like carrots than iris to me.
