What you "owe your husband for all the hard work it was to remove the slate" has been made up for "all the hard work YOU have done raising your kids, homeschooling, shopping for food, cooking it, housekeeping, errands, decorating, and making RU-vid videos, cleaning, gardening, upkeep/maintaining your home! I love that you left the note, we just finished our floors with ceramic tile and I wrote a bible verse under the cement board. We are lucky girls that our husbands can do so much for us.

So…it started with the range, then it led to the cabinet hardware, then it led to the counters and then to the floors! Girl! You got a whole new kitchen in the span of a few weeks! It looks gorgeous! The floors are splendid and God is good! You saved on many of the finishes.

Oh my word. Just stunning Andrea. Great call on removing the slate, and replacing with the wood flooring. It enhances the counters, where before the floors competed w the counter. Now both shine. If you think your home can’t get any more beautiful, it does. ❤❤

Nope , one shade lighter makes absolutely no difference and does not matter…your house is full of character so why not there?! Your husband is a wonderful man and so talented!!! Just brightens up your kitchen so much. Just love it!!!!

It is so beautiful! Wood was definitely the right choice!! I think the color difference you are seeing now with your old floors will blend over time with wear. Also, at 8:36, I noticed the color of that one old floorboard when you were adding the new flooring was darker than most of your existing wood floors. I wondered if you changed out that one board if the colors would have blended a little closer in making the transition to the new kitchen flooring. Wood certainly has subtle variations in color and depth. Embrace those variations! With wear, you will not notice any difference in 3 or 4 months. It is a stunning transformation and you both should be proud of what you have accomplished! You make a great team. It was a major undertaking with an incredible, breathtaking result! Congrats!

Hi Diane here again. I just thought you may want to know that my husband and I put down wood floors about 20 years ago. And we also used the red oak. And yes your floor darken over time. Which I really like. I don’t know for sure but I think your floors may end up matching eventually. Because my floor only got so dark. We used the oil base polyurethane. I don’t know how well the water base will hold up in your kitchen. You will spill things. I live in fl so we had to glue our wood over concrete. Just remember you can always go over water base with oil base. But not vice versa. You just have to lightly sand before you do. I know how much work your doing. But you will always have a sense of satisfaction and pride in yourself for it. Looks beautiful

Red oak does darken overtime. We have red oak in our entire home. It’s 75 years old . We’ve had it refinished two times in 45 years. Our kitchen is the same layout as yours. It didn’t have hardwood. So we had red oak installed. It was just a shade different but over the last ten years ears it’s pretty much evened out. Yours are beautiful.

Wood floors get darker as they age. We put hardwood in our living room, and ten years later we put it in our kitchen same finished-hardwood. Ten years later it’s still lighter but we still love it. Love how yours turn out. ❤

Wow. You did such a great job matching the floors. I'm sure you're thrilled. I have installed hardwoods. The floors will darken just a bit. They will absorb moisture from the subflooring. There is always some moisture no matter how dry it may seem. It will take a little while but they will darken. I'm so glad that all worked out. The kitchen looks gorgeous.

Oh it is beautiful, I really think you got a very close match. It will darken over time. It's so close I wouldn't worry about it. Your husband did an amazing job. Your kitchen really has come together beautifully. I would take out the small table as I feel it looks a bit crowded but you do what you like.

I'm so glad you and Mike had placed hard woods, it looks great, hopefully y'all can enjoy more your home to your satisfaction and there is a concern, I rather have you place a mat padding under the rug before someone slips and falls. All the hard work paid off even if you had to eat out for this renovation.

You can tint the varnish or the water-based polycrylic sealer you used to darken the color or shade of the kitchen floors. I did this 20 years ago when I restored 1912 Victorian-Craftsman house in Los Angeles.

Simply stunning!! Such a bright and airy look to your kitchen now. Real hard wood floors do darken with age so they should be closer in color within a few years due to the kitchen getting more use and foot traffic. Great work you two!!

The kitchen is now complete! I don’t think the refrigerator needs anything more done to it to hide it, it actually seems to vanish when looking down that direction👍 You are so fortunate to have a husband that is so talented and willing to do all the DIYs that you two have completed, the money you have saved in labor costs would shock you!
