Tucked in the mountains between Winter Park and Grand Lake sits a small community of 2,000 people that was thrust into the national spotlight when one of its residents turned a bulldozer into a makeshift tank and went on a rampage, destroying much of the town. Now, a full-length documentary, "Tread," about that incident, and the man behind it, is coming to Denver theaters for a short run in February.

…and now, here’s the rest of the story…. Today is a special day. June 4th, 2021, marks the 17th anniversary of the Killdozer's rampage through Granby, Colorado. Sit down, kids, and let me tell you a tale about a reasonable man driven to do unreasonable things. Marvin Heemeyer was a man who owned a muffler shop in Granby, Colorado. The city council ordained to approve the construction of a concrete factory in the lot across from Marvin's shop. In the process, this blocked the only access road to the muffler shop. Marvin petitioned to stop the construction to no avail. He petitioned to construct a new access road, and even bought the heavy machinery to do so himself. Denied. The concrete factory went up in disregard to the ramifications on Marvin's business. To add insult to injury, the factory construction disconnected the muffler shop from the city sewage lines. An indifferent city government then chose to fine Marvin for this. His business and livelihood were in ruin. Rather than lie down and die, Marvin chose to fight back. Over the course of a year and a half Marvin secretly outfitted the bulldozer he bought to save his business with three foot thick steel and concrete armor along with camera systems guarded with bulletproof glass. On June 4th, 2004, Marvin Heemeyer lowered the armored shell onto the bulldozer, entombing himself inside the Killdozer to make his last stand. He burst forth from the walls of his muffler shop and straight into the concrete factory that ruined his business. Over the course of the next several hours, Marvin drove his Killdozer through 13 buildings owned by those officials that had wronged him, including the city council building itself. SWAT teams swarmed the dozer, but it proved immune to small arms fire and even explosives. Another piece of heavy machinery was even brought out to fight the Killdozer, but it too fell to the dozer’s righteous fury. In the end, Marvin's Killdozer became trapped in one of the buildings it was built to destroy. Marvin chose to take his life, the only life he took that day. Today we celebrate Killdozer day and Marvin Heemeyer, the last great American folk hero. A man driven to the brink who chose to fight back against an indifferent system. From notes left behind after his passing: "I was always willing to be reasonable until I had to be unreasonable. Sometimes reasonable men must do unreasonable things." HAPPY KILLDOZER DAY EVERYONE.

However, the Thompsons committed many crimes, I hope that the investigation of some of their evil deeds will be published in Europe.

I only saw the infamous video just a few summers ago and thought it was humorous. It's not every day somebody gets screwed over, holes up for a year to build a machine, then go full GTA on the entire town. Neither for or against the man, just amused by his actions. The plan was a little overengineered but more believable than the whole event of _Rampage_ (2009) where Bill gears up, blows up the police station with the van he wired up, then went around the area shooting people indiscriminately.

My complaint with him is that he didn't wait until now, I mean the public schools and libraries are empty due to coronapanic. If he had a problem, atleast aim for an empty community property building. Damaging other people's stuff is wrong, so if you're going to attack an oppressive government, try to make sure you don't hurt others. Remember, Robinhood stole not from the rich, but from the government. (common misconception.) (I'm not advocating for theft, insurrections, or destruction of property [stolen or otherwise]. I am merely making the distinction between destroying a random person's building, and a thief's build that they claim belongs to everyone... Individually, I'd say it is wrong to steal, kill, or destroy; however, I think those who can't hold to such teachings, a "Klepto" for example, I would rather them take something worthless from a government building than a person. Those who can't stop themselves from killing... that is a shameful existence, I could only suggest they become a soldier on the front lines but I'm not an expert... as for destruction? if you can't stop yourself from destroying things, find someone that can turn your destruction into creation, monetize your destructive nature. but I'd always suggest you seek peace, creation, and craft, because there is too much hurt in destruction...)

@joshuawoffard99 4 года назад
@@almostsaladofcaesar6884 Yes I'm aware of that, and that's part of why I'm in-favor of what he did. Although, again I think there's something to making sure no one is in the building, similar to a construction/demolition site. At the end of the day, I agree that they shouldn't have killed or even shot at him. They should have tried non-violent means to stop him but as long as he's on public property he has as much claim to the assets of the property as anyone else. They should have left him alone.

Wow. I'm trying to think what I was doing in June of 04 that would've made me not hear about this, until now!? I just happened to see it for rental on Amazon now and decided to Google about it. So ... what was this Heymeyer guy's big problem with Granby CO, big enough to do all that!? Jeeesh! Ya just never know when some knucklehead is gonna just snap. I live in San Diego. Back around 1998 we had a knucklehead sneak into some Army tank storage armory, he got a tank started up, and literally went on a destroy mission through neighborhoods, flattening cars and even a big motor home, plowing down streetlights, poles, whatever. Then he took it in 163 freeway and got it stuck trying to cross the concrete middle barrier. His outcome was a bit different. Police opened up the hatch as he was still trying to jimmy the thing free and simply opened fire. I'm sure if you search it the whole incident can be found here on YT cuz the news helicopters did a great job covering it all. Well, like I said, you just never know with people!?

@PanhandleFrank

@@BillyBob-qu1fs Bull$h!t. Heemeyer lived a very good lifestyle. He bought the property in hopes of flipping it to the Docheffs, but got greedy and jacked his asking price up TWICE, and priced himself out of a sale. Meanwhile, HE'S using the property with no approved sanitation hookups (collecting all his wastewater in a drum from an old cement truck), and the local government called him on it. He didn't like the fact that it was going to cost more than he payed for the property to run a sewer line out to the established line. He tried pushing back on the Docheffs' concrete plant, but ultimately lost THAT legal battle. Then it was suddenly, "Oh, ThE gOoD oLd BoY nEtWoRk Is ALL AGAINST ME ... so I'm gonna fuck shit up. In fact, GOD INSPIRED ME to fuck shit up." Sorry, but the God Who inspired Romans 12:17-21 had no part in Heemeyer's crimes. The FACT that there are corrupt officials in all levels of government around this country doesn't mean his allegations of corruption and "HoStIlItY" are true. And even if they were, he had no legal OR MORAL justification to destroy $7M worth of damage to public and private property in retaliation. And the dude was NOT a hero. Else at the end of his little tantrum, he would have emerged from the tank with his hands up, looked his "enemies" in the eyes, and trusted the same God Who he claimed inspired and blessed his efforts to bless his efforts in court. But no, he blew his effing useless brains out all over the cab of his "kIlLdOzEr." (Not a single Founding Father would have committed suicide if he faced capture by the British. They all would prefer to suffer an unjust trial and execution than to take their own lives.) Heemeyer was a failed POS mass shooter, and the fact that so many Americans laud him as some kind of "hero" for "StAnDiNg Up To Da MaN" does not bode well for this nation.
@PanhandleFrank
@PanhandleFrank 4 года назад
BTW Bruce, you may find this article to be of interest. (In a sermon on the first murder, my pastor read the quote below, and it immediately made me think of Heemeyer.) "What Can Cain and Abel Teach Us About Mass Shootings?" by James L. Knoll IV, MD andRonald W. Pies, MD Psychiatric Times, September 24, 2019 www.psychiatrictimes.com/couch-crisis/what-cain-and-abel-can-teach-us-about-mass-shootings " ... While most mass shooters would probably not meet DSM criteria for a mental disorder, most appear to be deeply unhappy individuals who are struggling to contain feelings of self-pity, anger, resentment and victimization. And therein lies their affinity with Cain’s psychodynamics. "Cain’s resentful, arrogant, murderous mindset comes about after a furious bout of envy, when he believes his sacrifices are insufficiently received by God. Cain fails to obtain the recognition he believes he deserves, becoming bitter and resentful. Finally, Cain takes matters into his own hands-meting out his “wild justice” by murdering Abel. Here is the destructive power of envy, resentment and narcissism that underlie many mass shootings." From everything I heard of Marv's tape-recorded manifesto in the documentary TREAD, that description seems to suit him well.
