@@Braapncamp Agree, but I wish they come out with a 500/600 version. Many people want bikes of this type, but lighter, less power. 110 HP is a bit for an overkill for off road and long distance solo riding. 70 to 80 HP, and 180 to 200 kg is where I would like them to be. Must be a twin cylinder if course!
@@davidmallia628 I agree! More bikes in the 690/PR7 segment that are ready as adv bikes and as you say twins. I wonder what they are waiting for? Why was there never a 690 Adventure like they had with the 625/640? I know we could build the bikes but I like the idea of just get one from the floor. 110 Hp and the Rally mode on this beast was a tad overkill in the woods for sure 😂🙌
Haha, like a pet. Actually fun, but I got some connection to it 😂💪 Hope to see alot of these in the woods. A great contender to the others out there and best looking.
Thanks so much Matthias! Always fun to join you for a coffee in the woods. I think that Cowboy coffee ☕️ you brought in on your KTM look delicious too. I only wish that ALL ADV bikes came with Car Play. I love it on my ‘21 Africa Twin as it makes my experience amazing while touring. Honda got that right ✊💪🏻
OH YER !!!!!!!! BROOM; BROOOOM , HAHA please don't kill yourself on that beast .... Wicked stuff mister beauty bike, I just see the smile on your face says it all really .....
Very nice video on an interesting bike for sure. I do like the looks and it seems very complete with pretty everything. I am sure I have spent the same price on my T7 already :) Thanks for showing some beauties in the end, like the T7s and Ari-Pekka :)
Thanks Rob! The bike surprised me in may ways, less top heavy than many others (like the T7). That would have been something, a T7 Word Rally on the floor. Just swing my leg over and continue the test rides 😂🙌💪🔥. I feel for Thomas (Tjommi) that has to wait on his beast ❤️. See You Guys!
I'm so jealous you get to test ride this bike. No chance here where I live. All the Desert X's are sold before they arrive, no demo bike. And not to mention our lousy Ducati dealer whosе motto is: you ride it after you buy it 🤣 I like everything about this bike, except the weight. Why do they keep getting heavier and heavier 🙄 I don't buy all those Euro5, Euro6 etc excuses, where is the new technology that would save the weight? Anyway great to see you enjoying your testride and thank you for your impressions 👍
I know how it feels, this is how the dealers worked 15 years ago. But it all pends on how big the dealer is and on the factory. If they send demobikes and most of them do, to the largest dealers in different areas. I'm privileged to have Bike in town, for sure. They where on to get on the phone to call me to come and testride the DesertX. But i was allready on thier floor 😂🙌. They have asked me before if I wanted to take tha Panamerican for a weekend for trailriding and do what ii like most, camp in the wild. That's what I call a cool dealership. It is a real beauty this bike! And it surprised me how well it performs and feels. Less top heavy as T7 and BMW 850, so Ducati has done some magic, probably the engines lower COG. Cool bike!
I got a offer on this bike in early may... and I was this close ---- to go for one, but the price just pushed me away from it. with a couple of other reasons. But I have to admit, it is a nice looking bike. Way to much electronic, like on the 790... how many modes do you need 🤣 Rally all the time 🤩Great video and I'm really impressed by all the information you managed to remember out there in the woods, I know all about how hard that can be. Cheers Tjommi 🍻
Haha, I'm actually impressed myself and I promise, I did not cheat with the phone. A true beauty that surprised me alot in many ways, a competent bike. Hope to see You on the T7 WR soon, for sure it will be a blast to see Your preview and unboxing 💪❤️, look forward to that. This sumer is the time to gather somewhere on the trails Tjommi, I seems to get more time on my own this vacation. Hope we will match this in some way.
@@Braapncamp The design on this bike is so damn nice. I really like the way Ducati has made this. And I think this could be the start of a new era for them. Yeah, I'm getting sick waiting for that bike. Last update is the 8.june... so soon...really soon. But that means that most of my season will change a lot compared to what I had planed in the beginning so meeting up on the trails are something we will manage for sure tjommi 👏🏻
@@woitika5983 Indeed it is... been a hard wait, but I keep my fingers crossed I have it this week. I just hope to save some of the season that is left. I may have to ship my bike south and do some Spain riding in the winter. Cheers
It looks really nice and well equipped from the start. It’s really good that most of the things are included from the start and not a load of different packages. well there was some type of different packages with rally saddle an so on, but if I understand correctly the different packages was more on the exterior side and not on the functional side so you must buy the luggage racks and the extra fuel tank to get the riding modes.
Goodmorning Jonas and thanks for watching, Yes the different packages are just exteriors and things that buyers preferences actually differs. Ducati has done their homework.
Ducati for the looks and fun, my own bike for the fun and I don't care if I drop it and and the AJP because I have not matured that much that I thought I had 👀😂 I still tend to end up in situations were the lighter bikes excel... 🤠🔥😇🙈
Hej Matthias, thanks very much for your nice review! The Desert X is a great looking ADV Bike, but for my size (173cm, leg-length 79cm), it is too high to feel good in the dirt. And a fully equipped Desert X for more than 20k€? In the moment, I prefer the Aprilia Tuareg, but I can‘t test ride it incase of a broken collarbone and three broken ribs. Will see, what’s coming up new at the exhibitions this autumn (Yamaha, KTM, GasGas, Husqvarna, Honda)! Ride safe an cheers, Joerg ☕️
Thanks Jörg! Much appreciated 👌 I think this bike is lower seated than the T7 and 790R, this without checking the facts, but it felt like that, very easy to low speed maneuver. Recover well my friend and hope that You find something nice among all the options out there. 🙌
Snyggaste äventyrscykeln i mitt tycke!
Just re watched this Mattias..nice bike review 👍. It's silly really, i love my T7...I've made it mine and I'm very happy with it, but everytime I see the Desert X I think mmmmmm!! Please don't tell my T7 i have these disloyal thoughts!!🤣🙈 cheers Steve ☕
Haha, the DesertX is easy to keep the eyes on for too long time 😁. It's definitely a nice bike to ride as well. FortNine's extended review and essay is very enertaining to watch, in he also points out a few odd things with the bike as well. The price od my 2023 890R is equal with some PowerParts added and the tech pack. They had two on the floor... 👀😅
@@Braapncamp I will keep an eye on wether it has any issues in it's maiden year. It looks good in the white, but I will be interested to see if anyone does a different paint scheme. I hope you will do another Viking history trip sometime Mattias..Cheers, Steve
To visit Bronze Age and Viking Age cultural sites are always interesting to visit, we have alot of them. Always ger You mindfull of ourcherotage and connection to our ancestors and their strives. I drove by a very interesting grave field a couple of days ago with the van. Located in Dalsland which also is rich of Bronze Age petroglyphs (most famous ones). Have to go back with the bike since I also saw alot of nice gravel and forest trails to explore in the area. Happy New Year to Yiu and Yours!
Great questions! Windprotection was more similar to the 790/890R than on the T7 which feel slightly better or equal. No big difference. Bike is very stable and pick up speed quicker than I expected on road 😁😅. Not sure about fuel consumption since I need to ride a couple of tanks before I know anything about that. Hopefully some owner will say something about this later on. Thanks!
Thanks! This is very important and I forgot it. The maintank is 21 litres. When I took off it ha 380 Km + range according to the computer. Not sure how accurat the computer works, but that sounds about right. In the list of accessories you could add an rear auxiliary fuel tank with 8 litres or 40% further range. Thus is good!
Fun video Mattias... Beautiful machine and great presentation.. I think I will stick with my 890 adventure r. CONGRATULATIONS on the growth of your channel.
Good morning JD! Great to have You here, much appreciated. Definitely a fun and beautiful machine, ofc no need to change with such a great machine already. But this bike is definitely up to it if one is into the market for a middleweight machine. ...and the looks 🙌
Hey great review. You couldn't stop smiling the whole video. That's a good sign of a great bike. Looks so awesome. Is the air filter accessible for quick clean/change, OR is it under the tank and a big job to change? Cheers
Hi, thanks! Regarding g the airfilter i actually did not check where it is located. I looked quickly under the saddle and found the lithium battery in the rear easily to reach. Srupid to not check the airfilter location. But we will figure this out!
Beautiful bike, Mattias. Nice engeneering solutions. Spot-on for Ducati's first X-bike. But still quite heavy - I'm looking for something substantially lighter to replace my Transalp 600 one day.Maybe there will be new stuff shown at EICMA Milan. Maybe the promised KTM 490 twin? Maybe the new Royal Enfield? Maybe the new Beta Alp 4 390? Maybe the GasGas 390 21/18 tyres? Cheers from Nürnberg/Germany, Günter
A 490 Twin from KTM is what we like to see. Not sure why it takes so long time... I like the grunt at the bigger engines though. The 690 served me nicely for several years. I really hope though that we get to see enduro like bikes with twins. Happy trails Günter!
I really want one of the coffee flask you have - small and neat. What brand is it? Can you remember where you bought it? As always, another brilliant video, thanks
That is a common question! I bought mine at ICA (a grocery store chain in Sweden), it is a 0,3 litre thermos, non branded. I actually have possibilities to get them and start to sell them with the channel name. I have not haver much time to follow up the possibility though 😂. A dutch guy who follows the channel was riding the TET Sweden and fond one at ICA after he asked the same.
Jäklars Anders, det kunde man ju ana! fränt, klart en grym hoj. När är leveranstid för de beställda DesertX ? Kan tro att det är vint nere i Kävlinge nu, det var ett tag sedan man var där 🙌
Hi Ben, can imagine I did not pay much attention on this, but I'm sure the lever could be adjusted in hight. But it needs to be longer as well, touring boots might suite better like on the 850GS. But this is no big deal att all, easily solved on this beauty,
Yes, you could just add one of those Wunderlich, or similar, extenders. I’m looking forward to checking out the Desert X in person. It looks and sounds great in your video.
I just sayi'n, it is a bike that You will find out that your heart beats to. Ducati nailed it in many ways. It could be expensive to have a look at it 😂🙌
Hehe, I can imagine! A list of great bikes. I'm very curious on the Tuareg 660 a friend got one but I have not seen it yet. On my way bicycling to work this morning i saw a T7 World Raid parked up. Had to stop and take a quick look 😂👌. Go with Your heart and the one that ticks the important boxes of yiur preferences. The DesertX is definitely the best looking and probably ticks the most boxes. Tuareg looks most value for money but I have no first hand experience. Best wishes and focus on the adventure as soon You have decided. ☝️😁🙌
Hi Dave, i do or have done alot of stuff but this is something that is close to my heart, ADVriding is a great way to get out and breathe. To test bikes are fun but could be expensive 👀😂. If I was into the market for a middleweight adventure bike this one is definitely the one I could go for. One day it's time to swap my bike and would I go light or should I stay in the segment? Thats the question, I tend to think going light again, but power of the twins are fun as well! 💪❤️ Happy trails Dave!
@@Braapncamp I knew you were a rider and a rather competent one by the looks of it too. Just the reviews were a revelation and a pleasant surprise when you popped up on my recommendations. Enjoyed the video Mattias and will be looking out for more in the future. Enjoy sir!
No ones else does a 4yr warranty. Or has the dealership backup... (bmw are good but not that good ) . I've been so disenchanted with my KTM dealership over the last 15 years...enough is enough. . Love KTM but they have driven me away. Apart from that, the overall spec, looks , setup ... blows everything else out of the water. Desert X is ordered.
Wow , congrats! 🙌 First to announce that in the comments. I really envy You, it is a bike to just love. It has so many qualities🤌🏻 and gives smiles. How did you spec your order? what accessories? Let us know ☝️😁
@@Braapncamp Thank you. Think it might be available mid July . Standard spec... although no actual monetary deal yet.. Ducati make you pre order .. . I've to trade my current 1290 SAS . Only rode V2S to get a feel for the engine so far. Even then it sounds as if X will be lower down grunt than multi V2 .
Looks like such a great bike but I could never bring myself to actually use it off-road like I do my DR650 and CRF450L. I drop those bikes whenever I ride. If I dropped something like this I’d cry.
I agree! To drop this beauty would hurt more than my 790R for some reason 😂🙌 This bike should not compare with those type of bikes though, but it is competent in it's own segment of bikes except from the droppability feeling ☝️😁🤌🏻
I know that feeling :D Got a Ducati Desert Sled which is just soo beautiful, to my eyes. Still got my old DR650 as well and find myself use that more than planned of just the reason you say… Well I’ll sell the DR now. - Suppose it’s just the first drop that hurts the most, better get done with that ;)
Haha, this bike looks way better than the Yammy 👀😜😜 not heard anything about unreliable Ducatis... probably all of them are like my beast, just throttles on into the horizon with ease and no worries ☝️😁🔥
@@Braapncamp for me the only thing missing with the t7 is traction control, would be nice to have on pavement when it rains. I am not sure a bike like this needs a lot of driving modes, for me it just make the bike too complicated electronics vise! What is your thoughts about slow technical stuff with the Ducati, it’s engine is not known for liking low rpm! I wonder if that could be a consideration? Does it have good throttle control and clutch?
The DesertX has a different curve on it's engine. Very easy to manouvre i low revs and low speed. The turning radius is definitely more agile than the 790. Liked it alot. To control the engine brake was a cool feature. But to be honest I just fiddle with the level of TC on the fly with my bike. I do not change the throttle response settings often. I did on the Norway trip after the 10th day. I set it to Rally response just because I needed som fun. The street setting powerfully enough, butvi needed something to play with. Only thing happened was that fuel consumption went up. 😂✊️✊️
Mattias, Tjommi’s post is what I am in agreement with. I would like to ask, have you ever thought to get one of the great ADV bikes from years ago and give it a ride?
Rally all the time says Tjommi, butvthe T7 is like riding in offroad mode all the time (like rain mode throttle respons ) 😂😜🙌 . It would be cool to ride my old DR800 again after all these years but for sure I would not be impressed. The old 1200GSA had no assistance except ABS and I would not be impressed other than it road capabilities, actually really great at curvy asphalt. The AJP PR7 thatvi rode a couple of weeks ago was oldschool! No assistansen at all on the bike not even ABS and I liked it very much. So nice and noble to ride. I still have that bike in my head. Those 65Hp was good enough and the bike gave me big smiles. I was totally exhaused though while I gave my opinion on it so quality was low. Dehydrated and really tired. I hope i will get to ride the PR7 again on an adventure. 😁👀
My take is that they are equal when riding, but the 901E is lighter and better protected without crashbars thstcthe DesertX. Both really nice bikes though, for technical stuff as well.
I took the Ducati x out yesterday on test found it exactly as you said the norden has everything included also all you need really Cheers for quick response mate have a nice Christmas & new yr Steven 🍻
Because thats what I ride ☝️😁, but I have tested the 890R as well so I could ofc compared to that as well. The only essential thing that differ (ridewise) is the lowend grunt and that the 890 does not stall as easy fom stop. That different mekaes the 890R and the DesertX more like eachother, does not stal easy. Otherwise the lowendgrunt are too similar on the bikes so to differ them are difficult. The 790/890 feels like it has more punsh from midrange, but as i said really hard to differ them. The DesertX engine feels more linear than the katooms.
Thanks Dean! That thermos I classic by now, it is a typical non branded 0,3 liter termos, I bought it at my closest grocery stor ICA, they still have them in store but other colors. I actually have one more of them with KTM orange colors on it 😂🙌.
Super cool bike but I dont understand the front fender, It does not protect the lower forklegs or the seals, would not be fun to get stonechips on the chrome or mud/dirt in the seals
Thanks Rasmus! That is interesting, we will see how owners do with that and how it will work out. I actually didn't reelect on this when I looked at it. Very important ofc.
Hi SW, Thats a great question as this was something I wanted to take notice on. This since my 790R stalls easy at stops. The 890 does not thought. I can happily report that the DesertX did not stal and was really easy to keep going in low speed maneuvers as well as it was easy to turn around or tackle the stuff. Great pull and low end, clutch was great operate.
The DesertX Owners Manual is useless. Ducati needs to make the service workshop manual available to owners. The notion of taking the bike to a local dealer for anything other than checking tire pressures and adding gas is absurd, especially in the Adventure bike segment.
That tft screen look cheap. Looks like samsung xcover with a free app. Here in norway this bike are not cheap, about 30000nok more expensive than a Tiger 900rally pro, but it looks 30000 cheaper than the tiger. Just a personal prefrance 😊🇳🇴☕. Great video kompis👍🏻
I think it said 220 NOK on the configurator at Bike? I actually think it looked very well made In the flesh, In my opinion it seems like Ducati has done their homework on this bike. ☕️🤌🏻💪❤️
@@toby7504 it is cool that there are alot of choises these days. The Agusta seems cool. I can imagine e that there will be a high performance version of this DesertX as well, but that could be only color trim as well.
That would be really interesting, closest dealer are 70Km away and it is possible. Im really interested in the tripples charaeristics. I have only heard good about it, ecpecially the engine. Latest version have lower COG than the previous version and I had a dry look at it on a motorcycle show a couple of years ago.
Seat height is lower than on my 790R and the T7, at least how I experienced it. The bike feels like it has Lower COG than the T7 and 850GS, actually I was surprised by how well balanced it felt and it was fully fueled up. It was easier to low speed maneuver than my 790.
Cool, a friend at work went for the Tuareg this weekend and will get it delivered in a week. I have not tried that one but looks to have good specs as well. But this baby stands out for sure.
This bike is specifically designed to traverse deserts, mud, small rivers and heavy rock terrain. The capabilities of this bike are massively beyond the capabilities of 99% of its riders.
I Agree, and thats good for the average riders as well. Not bad to have marginal on the bikes capabilities. Something that gives inspiration and as well a possibilities to grow with the bikes capability. God Jul and Happy Trails!
Nice preview. That water pump is very vulnerable, that’s what happens with a transplanted road motor. Do the pillion peg arms unbolt from the frame or are they welded on? In Australia it is the same price as an 890R. I’m sure your bike would feel lighter due to the low tanks.
Hi DKW, Yes the water pump is definitely exposed. In the configurator there is an optional protection to add for the pump. The rear peg arms were welded to the frame (unfortunately). Looked sturdy though but still in the way for many. It actually feel alot lighter than it is, not sure how they did that magic, engines lower COG probably. Must say I think Ducati did well on this one all in all. alot of accessories, but I'm personally not the guy that want to add alot to a bike, rather the opposite.
@@Braapncamp yes, add a rear rack, pannier frames, engine crash bars and a solid baseplate and there is another 15+ kg. I’m not interested in twins, too much weight. I’d sacrifice road comfort for 145kg dry everyday.
@@Braapncamp you could become the Swedish Ambassador for the PR7, and it does have a Swedish motor. How appropriate for the ride to the Husqvarna museum.
@@Braapncamp I would do some careful research on the PR7. There are known problems with it. It has excellent suspension and power. I like the idea of a 2nd hand modified 701
Ahhh - got to get that hair just right at 3.50😁⛔ 👱 That bike is sex on wheels, and there is one thing the Italians do right, it's style. I've always found the pegs too high for me on the Ducati's, they look high on this bike too, (I'm 6'3", may be outside of the design range for the Italians...) as if a rider will be banking it over on its side in a chicane.... As to crash bars, Ducati's web site has a big list of parts to add, those, the panniers, wind shields, bigger gas tanks etc etc - so lot's of options. Beautiful bike, but at the end of the day I'll stay Japanese's 🎎 with my ATAS, mostly because she is a blast, but more importantly, I believe she will get me home every time - away from the man eating bears🐻🐻 we have here. 🤠
Hehe, very important! I tend to forget that every time I play with the camera 😂 But not this time! 💪🔥 Yes the design Is so nice. I felt the pegs to not bother me, that means they must be rather ok? When I got back I looked at the configurator on what options there are, man Ducati made it even there, very tidy and complete configurator. There was ALOT of extras! The optional baseplate looked the trick.
Looking too good to drop 👀 at least the first time 😂🔥. It is a perfect adventure bike so it's up to the owner how hard the adventure riding should be. It works perfect for the type of riding i do in the video at least without worrying. Very agile and well balanced 👌 Thanks Michael! Happy Summer Solstice weekend 🌞🍺
As someone said, I would hate to drop that beauty 😂. Pricewise it competes with the 850 GS and does that very well! I would get this one over the BMW every day, beauty and handling excels. Thanks for your comment on this, much appreciated!
Wanted to watch it but, so many distractions and waste of time. This could have easily be edited into 10-15 minutes of meaningful video. From little that what I was able to pay attention, that is crazy short distance between peg and shifter. No way dirt boots would fit in there. I'm not crazy about the looks of it either. Ducati is a niche market intended more as status symbol than practical machine. They can never have sales volume so, they found way how to profit from "exclusivity". Not my cup of tea.
Thanks for your honest comment on both the video and the bike, thats why we are here and I appreciate You taking the time. I had alot of fun on this beats. Happy trails!
@@Braapncamp Thank you for graceously taking my criticism. You have very nice images and great camera work. You are also likeable guy so, you have all to make great videos. Ducati engine should rattle from the clutch case, thats what I have always read. Did not noticed much of it. Maybe You hear it on idle? When riding everything sounds nice 👌.
