I sold my stihl 91 fs because of that low end torque issue you addressed .. they are more too maintain .. but when they’re good and ready too go they are great .. I got a echo and seems easier too use for now !!
I bought one of those..ran 3 tanks of premium gas with echo 2 stroke and it wouldnt run anymore. Bog down as soon as you touched the gas..brought it back. Seller didnt have time for it. Sat there 10 months. Took it back bought a new carb..3 tanks of gas later back in the same boat. Wont run. So i guess there ok if ypu wanna buy a carb once a month. Not what the used to be. Chainsaw and old echo blower running from the same gas can no problems.
Must have gotten a bad batch of carbs. I've never had a single issue out of those Zama RB carbs on my own stuff. I had an SRM230 for 9 years that used the same carb as this and it never acted up for a second. Take that tamper proof high speed plug out and adjust it, that'll probably fix the bogging issue.
@@kevinbentley4245 That's good. The newer carburetors have smaller orifices than the old ones, and it probably needs more fuel. It starts and idles, correct? I have my dads 25 year old SRM2510 that makes this new thing look like a toy despite the power it has. I also have a 1 year old PB580T blower and have never had an issue out of it although I adjusted the carburetor day one for optimum running. Never an issue.
@@MattsRageFitGarage i just took the brass plug out so i could adjust it. Ran enough to do my yard but still died 10 times. Thats the $15 Amazon carb. Itll run wide open now but then for no reason it dies like its outta gad..starts right back up..might run for 30 sec or 5 min. Now i did the same with the original carb and it wont run at all with that one on. Its been cleaned..it wont prime. It builds air pressure but the carb wont take the fuel. If you take the 2 screw plate off and push the plunger with your finger after you pump the bulb fuel spits out but It wont do it on its own...its had 3 friggin tanks of premium gas run through it! Id trade this $300 piece of crap for a 10 year old $40 ryobe right now!
@@kevinbentley4245 I've seen several issues cause them to die like that. 3 times it has been the spark plug shorting out when it gets hot, would usually idle but die under hard throttle and be hard to restart for a minute. Ignition coil, on off switch, and more importantly I've seen several aftermarket carburetors do that. I ordered one genuine ZAMA carburetor once and it worked great for 10 minutes then it would run like a bag of crap and die. It would do that over and over again if I let it sit and cool off. It had a bunch of metal filings in it and never did work right. Warrantied carb worked perfect. Take your original carb apart and clean it and try adjusting that one. These little carburetors suck, they aren't made worth a damn anymore. If you have an inline spark tester hook it between the coil wire and spark plug and watch for the spark to disappear when it dies. The spark plug can also cause it to disappear on the tester if its shorting out, the spark coming from the coil can't reach ground so it disappears.
For the price they should at least include the clamp. The one I have installed is a Stihl part. Actually, so is the strap. I've seen generic harness strap kits online for less than $10, and even seen them in Lowes and Home depot for around $12. i took the guard off mine and gutted the catalytic converter out of the muffler and that took some weight off of it. Made it slightly engine heavy so I slid the trigger assembly all the way back and it helped the balance. I really like it so far. It's still lighter feeling than the FS90R I just sold.
@@MattsRageFitGarage i just purchased this Stihl padded harness (part# 41197109001)for $19.95 and collar clamp(part # 41400071006) for $4.16 today....total $26.31......works for me and tennis elbow....havent really worked the trimmer alot(not even a tank of gas yet..lol) but from what little tall grass i played with, it slices through like nuthin...my stihl fs38 runs hard and cuts really good, but too short for constant use...good for short folks but it was a budget buy at the time....
@@redblue40rc33 The strap helps a lot. I used mine for an hour yesterday helping my neighbor out. He hadn't mowed his yard yet this year. I bought a spare muffler for mine and gutted the catalyst and opened up the exhaust deflector and re tuned the carb. Has a fair bit more torque and runs way cooler.
Yep, me too. Also I can get any parts I want OEM or aftermarket for the Echo machines online. With a Stihl you're pretty much stuck going to the dealer for just about everything.
Yeah, the only stihl I like so far is the MS180C I inherited. It's probably only been good because it was only used a few times and is basically new still. I'll never purchase a Stihl with my own money. Free is fine with me, but I still don't care for them much LOL! I really like that SRM 266.
