@@MrBean617 no they didn’t. this used to be like a three hours show on bet.. they just went into the unaired footage and added that spice to the biopic
Ralph was all for the squad from Day One. Earned so much respect for him........he's been about his brothers since the start. If he turned down that original solo offer before Candy Girl......the fellas owe it all to him. They're Voltron!
Retrokidbk83 Ya same here i never heard of this guy. Until i watched the new edition tv special. And man i gotta say ralph tresvant was a nice guy who just wanted to do right by everybody in the group. Ralph was a teamplayer from day 1 and i respect that. Out of all the new edition members he might not have been the most famous one to come out of new edition. But i have the most respect for this man now. Ralph tresvant you the man.
Retrokidbk83 Na i heard of new edition when i was younger but i never actually listened to thier music. But i knew of bobby brown and i knew the song poison by bell biv devoe. I never even heard of ralph tresvant until this tv special. But now i can say im a fan of new edition i have listened to thier songs. And i can also say im a fan of ralph tresvant like I said before he might not have broke out like the other members of new edition did. But i have the most RESPECT for Ralph Tresvant out of all the members of new edition. Because he was always a team player and you can tell he was just genuinely a good guy trying to do right by all the members of new edition.
that's because Mike & Ralph's relationship changed when Mike went to get Johnny Gill to replace Ralph out of fear that he would leave the group in which he was sort of planning to do after seeing his best friend Bobby go in the mature direction where he felt NE should've been going...Ralph didnt find out about his "replacement" until that now infamous meeting in Minneapolis with Jam & Lewis
crzy4muzic611 naw it was just that, a Side extension of a pay phone, hm phone etc. no pay out needed. it was just that. Truth. Trill Form of Life. Afterlife of a Dee Boi
Ralph was throwing shade like a giant oak tree........ That being said Ralph gets the upmost respect for not leaving the fellas in the projects and signing as a group not as a solo artist to Streetwise Records....
If you watch Bobby's face while Mike and Ralph are going back and forth..he looks like he knows that something can possibly jump off between these two at any moment. Bobby knows that these two are not feeling each other.
ittybitty5609 I found one "Bobby get tired and walk off stage while NE perform".... I was really cracking up 😂😂😂 to see how he real life was fucking up
Ya know, I've always seen Mike as the Otis Williams of NE. Except he's actually useful on stage and in songs. The business minded one. Bobby is like David Ruffin. Clearly the most superior voice and performer of the group on all fronts, corrupted by drugs and an ego at the time. And.... While we're comparing, I'd say just for kicks, Johnny is Dennis Edwards. Ricky is Paul. Ronnie is Melvin. Ralph is Eddie, always the least satisfied with group dynamics. Hehe
I feel sorry for Ralph now cause they really put his album on the back burner and being that they wanted him to be solo from jump street and he Ralph said no it's all of us . Or none for the rest of the guys to just leave him like that is cold
Eniola Sofowora No one left him. They just put out their albums before him and he wasn’t expecting that to happen. He like EVERYONE ELSE saw this: BOBBY, Johnny & Ralph. BBD was that gift you wasn’t expecting to get for Christmas. That fucked his head up. You see Bobby & Johnny was just chillin’. They didn’t interrupt anything.
@@curtis75black and furthermore,BBD was formed out of necessity to survive, rather than spite, because Ralph had been giving solo vibes prior to the Heart Break album and they sort of knew they had to make a move after the Heart Break album. Funny that BBD got a jump on the album's before everyone else.
They all like brothers. They have been together all these years... their was bound to be some days where they werent getting along. They're still good friends and they still putton a awesome show!!! I've seen them onstage twice in 4 months! they are all so happy together.
Every member in New Edition is important but as Ricky Bell says to this day: IT WAS ALL ABOUT RALPH ! He is the quintessential lead singer in New Edition though Bobby, Ricky & Johnny were the stronger vocalists, Ralph had the DISTINCT voice & charisma that sold the records...when everyone was successful with their solo career, they were still close with each other but egos were out of control & old beefs never died...Example: Bobby & Mike used to have mega fistfights back in 1984
Very true. It is all about the total package and his voice had the cross over appeal. that's why Ralph stood out!! A lot of people don't grasp that concept.
Mike: "Can we re-answer the album question?" Ralph: "She just finished that question!" Man how condescending. Plus he took over 2/3rds of the BBD question moment anyway which was probably WHY mike wanted to "re-answer" the album question about BBD. I've always gotten a "least humble of the 6" vibe out of Ralph but man this interview really does it for me. Totally uncool.
Are you serious??? Ralph is the humblest out of all of them. He was really humble when he didn't let the record company spilt them up in the beginning. Mike wasn't humble when he got Johnny to replace him, w/o telling he or Johnny what was going on. That's why he and Mike would bump heads. How would you have felt if you were always loyal to the group and the group wasn't loyal to you. They were straight JEALOUS of Ralph.
Thats smart though... Guarantee you, he is by far the richest out of all them, just from expanding and discovering new artists. I think the saddest thing pop stars can do is try to stay past their expiration date and try to cling to yesteryear. Much smarter to discover hot new talent and make money off them.
wrong....Ralph's jealousy plus bobby fuckin with him pissed mike off...he got quiet and tried to be professional... but Ralph didn't expect everybody to take off but himself...and was so mad.. the boys knew he was mad thats why they was tryna shut him up...Johnny was just a bystander like "these niggas at it again"...
and bobby was tru life hurt they kicked him out...and even after all the success he was havin at that moment, begged to be back in...yea he was an asshole, but he loved his brothers
I didn't see any tension here. However, you can tell everyone had enough of Ralph wanting a lot of attention and trying to take over the interview. They were very young then...and have all matured over time. U can't deny the chemistry of New Edition. They've always been a great group. I will say this. It's ironic that despite Ron, Ricky, and Mike almost being left on the shelf....that now whenever New Edition tours and do their solo stuff, BBD gets the biggest reaction.
It goes back to 1984 was all the other members (except Bobby who was best friends with Ralph) of New Edition was jealous of Ralph because he was the main lead singer doing his job....when Bobby was fired, Ralph began working on a solo career..this is when Biv got Johnny Gill to replace Ralph..but the record label told Biv that a NE album CANNOT happen without Ralph which is why the heartbreak album was made...in addition, the main beef was always between Bobby & Mike who used to have fistfights
I grew up listening to New Edition, Bobby Brown, BBD, Ralph Tresvant, and Johnny Gill and did not have any idea about what was going on. This BET special was an educator and an eye opener. To know that Michael Bivins was the initial bad ass was a shocker, and did not realize he discovered Boys 2 Men. I heard more about Bobby Brown than any of the rest, and it was good to learn about all of them. Speaking of Bobby Brown, I always thought it was a "trip" to label him as King of R&B.....shhhhiiittt!!!
Dang, +demondligon, I bet you never figured in 2011 your videos would go viral. Thanks for uploading these. It's crazy watching this play out exactly on the NE movie.
BET laid it down. Congrats to them making a fantastic film. Not only did some of the actors favor the singer's but they had the moves down. This is a very good high quality film. Hopefully the Emmys won't forget in Sept.
@Vergadoce I think BBD wanted Bobby out the group because he wouldn't play the back like they was. He was stealing the spotlight during their tours and Ralph has said in many interviews he didnt care about what Bobby was doing because Ralph was getting his "moments" anyway. So on the tours the fans saw Bobby & Ralph while the others did as they were told lol. They got Johnny with the intention of replacing Ralph. Mike was the leader of the other guys (BBD)
@Vergadoce I dont know...all them cats is from the same hood except Johnny. I dont see Ronnie throwing any punches at anyone in the group he seem the most mello, but I could definitely see Ralph, Mike & Bobby fighting each other. Between 83-86 Ralph & Bobby was real tight. So tight Ralph could have KEPT Bobby in the group if Bobby wanted to stay.
you can tell " Mike" didn't want to be there.....when Bob was kick out Ralph' felt like the other 3 was always against him, it could've been a little jealousy because Ralph was the voice of NE!! but you can definitely see the tension in this interview.
They were against him, and he knew it. You could see it, from various interviews and on stage. He even said it when, they were on tour BBD was BBD before the group formed. I was glad for more than one reason, that Johhny joined the group because he and Ralph became close. They would go out and leave him by himself. Ralph said he would call some of his friends from Boston and they would fly out to hang out with him. Yes, Ralph is the voice of NE, he's good looking, suave, smooth, sexy, sings, dances, great stage presence, confidence and pulls the women.
I wasn't looking for this because I am old enough to remember watching this when it first aired, but when I saw this reenacted on their biopic I wanted to see it again because I didn't notice the tension that was between them. That biopic put a different light on their situation.
everybody came to watch it after the movie kmsl this is too funny how all of us came to watch this after seeing this part in the movie. them boys played their rolls to the T. loved every min of it
This new edition movie is going to be so lit, comes out in 2017!!! I can not wait. Hakeem from empire(michael Vivins) woody the great (bobby brown) elijah Kelley (ricky bell) Keith powers (Ronnie decor) Algee (Ralph trensvant) luke James (Johnny gill)
