Another fantastic episode, and how heartwarming to see the Mick doll in the tent. Especially today, on what would have been Mick Astons 77th birthday. Still very much missed. Like probably many of his friends, collegues and Time Team fans around the world, I had a drink in his honour tonight. To Professor Aston - gone but not forgotten.
Oh. My. God. Seeing this show and the guys from the original show is sheer unadulterated joy. Stuart, Paul, Sam, Helen, Jackie, and all the others … actual gods of archaeology! Can’t thank you enough for making me happy, educating me, and showing me how dedicated, generous people work together to find out more about our past. Perfect.
Professor Michael "Mick" Antony Aston died 10 years and 1 week ago, to the day. He would have loved this dig! And with this new Time Team, his spirit lives on! Rest In Peace, Mick. And THANK YOU, Time Team for having gotten back on track, with the brilliant, no nonsense digs, just like the Good Old Shows, before it all changed. THANK YOU! ❤👍
Gus really grew on my over the last months. I feel like he is also finding his pace more. Apart from all the other lovely people working on the show I feel like he deserves some credit. It's not an easy job taking over from Sir Tony after so long. Great work as always!
The three mini episode approach is great - allowing more time for showing the thought processes and problem solving of archaeology. I really loved the discussion over how to interpret the small metal finds in this ep.
I love seeing my TT friends growing older, wiser and so beautiful with not a drop of makeup or pretended! Love to all here and all of the TT 2024! So great!!!
Fascinating episode. I love the ending, the Anglo-Saxon poem composed just for this program. Brilliant. And makes you see how Tolkien, a scholar of Anglo-Saxon poetry, was inspired to write his fictional world. But I must say, the non-fiction world Time Team is revealing is even better.
Yes! God yes. Thankyou. That's one thing these new episodes don't get quite right - they mention things and then never resolve them. I'm totally team Stewart anyway, I'd trust him before John's Geophys any day, but this really annoyed me.
Wonderful episode. I really enjoyed the picture in frame of Stewart's footsteps around the valley. The graphics and the views through the microscope are awesome.
Once again Stewart putting on the miles. Good health to you Stewart! Great to see Phillipa again, seems like many of the TT alumni are popping in, which is wonderful. Can't wait 'till tomorrow.
🤯 What happens when experience, technology and community come together as a team to understand people, places and a time lost to history... incredible. Thank you Time Team 🙏
One of the big criticisms, now forgotten of the original series, was how much the format and the the original presenter (who I loved) ended up reducing archeology to a kind of tabloidisation. Where drama, between the three days and confected drama between the experts made the process of archeology, which is by necessity, slow and painstaking, into a miniature pantomime. I like this a lot more, and I say it as someone who devoured the C4 originals. Gus is a pleasing antidote to manufactured drama and comes across as a voice of calm and educated reason. The brilliant experts from the original programme have space and time to blossom, their knowledge and expertise is unhampered by the need to create confected drama. The archeology itself is drama enough. It always was. I'm absolutely loving this new format. The authority and inquisitiveness of the experts just shines through.
@@hogwashmcturnip8930 Exactly. The original series was made for a time when there were only four (later five) TV channels, and the whole family had to sit down to watch ONE of them after lunch. There had to be some "confected" interpersonal drama for whoever was NOT interested in archaeology, and a bit of shouting and running about to keep the kids amused. The original format had historical re-enactors and also someone replicating ancient technology as well, in case the excavation failed to yield the goods.
@@hogwashmcturnip8930 No. Entertainment has moved on from the days of hundreds in a theatre or cinema, to a single family in one room and now each person watches whatever they want on their own device. There's no reluctant/recalcitrant audience any more. Most people are watching porn, and the rest are doing their own thing. The Reformation ended "we believe," and Smartphones ended "we watch."
The thing with Tony was that he was rather incompetent in the first season but learnt a lot during the years and the viewers learnt with him and there is a merit to that. But you can't really go back to the early seasons if you are making the show for old fans who watched them, the program grew with time and you can't really relapse to how things were in the first few seasons. I do wish they could get Phil back though, he is a very entertaining person but he is still working on that Waterloo project. I wouldn't say there were tabloidisation though, it was more that you took some rather stubborn professionals and added in a comedian as a host, besides Tony none were used to a camera and I have a feeling they were bantering off the camera too. I recently read a book about the American archaeological expedition to Meggido (which you might know under another name, Harmageddon or Armagaddon) in the 1930s and that was way worse, more like "Melrose place" then anything else and it was not any fiction in the book (Eric H. Cline: "Digging Up Armageddon", I recommend it).
Considering the advance in age of T.T. crew, I imagine it was decided that the 'frenetic pace' wouldn't fit with the people anymore. There also seems to be more detail than the old television show; which makes sense since they are making about a 2 and half hour finished product instead of 45 or so minutes.
Unbelievably good, the spirit that hooked me many years ago is still there. The Mick doll was so very touching. Though I miss Prof. Harding and the manky hat, nothing has been lost.
Thanks for time(team?)-stamping that. I didn't see it on first viewing (too busy doing too many things at once). I confess to laughing, but not out of derision, more in the pleasure of seeing him there still supervising the digs. I think he would have laughed as well. I drink a virtual pint to his memory.
Time Team is absolutely sensational, I loved every second of this episode, it had everything that has given Time Team legendary status. Well done Emily, great job. It is such a privilege to participate in a project where every single person has produced something extraordinary. Sam’s song at the end was amazing. Congratulations Helen, thanks Tim and thank you all so much.
There's something so cool about having these digs and episodes funded by folks who love Time Team enough to donate to Patreon. You can see this in the happiness and enthusiasm all the folks are showing that they know we love watching them work. I also love them having more camera time, time for more details and time for things like Sam's verse and music.
This American is very happy to have Time Team back. I got totally hooked on this show about 2 years ago and I think I've watched every episode here on RU-vid. I subscribe to History Hit as well.
Such a Wonderful episode so far! One thing I love so much about Time Team, is the sense of Roots, and Community you come away with. Being American, I've always felt rootless, but they do reach back to these people. Thank you all for your hard work to make these for us. ❤
Gus is such a great addition to the TT. I’m really enjoying his enthusiasm and knowledge and how he shares information with the viewers. Stewart trekking through the wilderness was awesome!
A really wonderful episode - and Dr. Sam's poetic tribute with Anglo Saxon harp brought me to tears. What a dream it would be to sit at his feet and listen to him share his knowledge!
My first foray into a TT new episode…and god it’s so great to see so many of the old team still at it…miss Tony,Mick and Phil so much….but I must say Gus comes across as both a passionate and gentle host….I miss the old stuff and will rewatch it till I wear that tape down for sure…but I sure welcome all their new stuff…if one statement rings true for TT… the more the merrier would be it…
Such a joy to see these wonderful and talented people together again. Stewart. John. Helen. Karenza. Jackie. Matt. Paul. Love the Mick doll. Where's the Phil doll?
Brilliant. Stunning. Highly informative, as always. But now with even more content and color. Sam's ode to the Winfarthing Lady on his ancient instrument evokes all the very best that Time Team was -- is -- and will be. And the gathering of our old friends -- Helen, John, Henry, Matt, Jacqui, Stewart, Sam, Carenza, Paul -- makes it so special. I would never have believed that the old TT could be surpassed, but here is the new TT for all of us to marvel at and enjoy. Mick, Victor, Beric and Robin surely are smiling down from above. We miss Tony and Phil, but LOVE that each day now gets its own segment. Just can't get enough of Time Team... THANK YOU!
the sequence in which we saw Stuart's travels of the site accompanied by animated feet leaving a trail over a map brought so much joy to me. I absolutely loved that touch. thanks for another charming episode of Time Team.
I think that's what I like about TT, they don't sugarcoat the process. They show failure as well as success, and in the end not finding something tell as much as finding. And someone who dug with Basil Brown at Sutton Hoo! WOW! I'm waiting for Part III with much anticipation.
This is absolutely spellbinding stuff! The Time Team never cease to amaze and delight. As others have said, being along for the ride on this epic (if only three-day) adventure is an utter delight. The love, joy, and intensity in what you all do is palpable, and makes me think how wonderful it would be to have a pint (or three) with you all following such a day of exploration. Brilliant, cheers!
That Mick doll just does it for me. Thank you team for doing such a sterling job as the next generation of Time Team...with some of our favourite people still on the trowel...shovel...geophys gear!
Absolute classic episode! Seeing so many familiar faces, young and old, so charismatic and passionate about what they do that you can't help but be fascinated about what they're telling you.
Outstanding! I'd love to see more of Stewart's POV. I really like Dr. Gus and seeing all the old faces and the new diggers. Great series, looking forward to Day 3.
Wonderful verses!! That was the cherry on top of a great episode. Such interesting finds and a promise of more tomorrow! The Mick doll, though, tugged at my heartstrings. He's very much missed.
So glad Paul seems to be doing well. He's always been one of my favorites with the knowledge and what seems a marvelous sense of humor. Great job guys.
Thank you for auto captioning. You d be surprised how many nat/ local or well funded show don't. Also Paul ( with trach) is excellent. Seeing disabled folks on show means a lot! Thank you
if there is anything i have learned watching the old episodes these last couple years, it is that nothing has erased the history in Britain more than the Plow.
Brilliant episodes! Really enjoying this dig. It’s easy to follow, has a lot of interest, great community involvement, wonderful familiar faces who are, indeed, legends! Thank you Time Team!
Stewart's walk reminded me of Michael Wood in one of his early documentaries following an old map round a village, showing how much has not changed over the centuries. Love the new Time Team format and presenters. And the Mick doll is perfectly judged.
Delightful to see all the individuals I adore from TT, particularly Helen, Stewart, Paul, Matt, and John. I miss Tony's energy, our Star Digger Man Phil Harding, and those whom have transitioned to Nonphysical. I s9 appreciate the New Works and all the past ones available here on RU-vid. A USA Enthusiast ...
Worthy women of Time Team. Nobel ladies, elf wise (yes contrary to popular belief they do exist), cunning women Druid crafty. Elf bright healers (or teachers). Thank you Dr Newton, please to forgive me editing yer wonderful prose. To the wise women of Time Team. Helen, Carrenza, Jackie, Naomi & all the new ladies. BRILLIANT
This is the first episode of this new series where it feels like the old Time Team: Anglo-Saxon graves, ditches, roman pottery and coins, the only thing that's missing is phil talking about evidence of burning
Dare I say it, but with the new time frames if these internet episodes, they are better than the originals. Can pace then and include so much stuff. Roll on more digs. Your doing a great job, thank you all. .
