I think the new direction they’ll be going has a lot to do with their tunings. Most of the self titled album pretty much lived in drop F#. Then Nigh, Psalm, and Sol were all in drop E, which is as low as standard 8 string tuning. This is in drop D#, which is where Northlane wrote Obsidian. Something I noticed on this song was that the riffs weren’t quite as flashy and technical as they have been in the past, but they were very rhythmic and still quite groovy. I think as Erra is now exploring these lower registers (literally low than an 8 string) they’re focus is slightly shifting from technicality to rhythmic instrumentals. I’m feeling like their next work will be akin to Northlane with Alien and Obsidian. Alien is very electronic and lots of very heavy energetic songs. Obsidian still has electronics and good energy, but there’s more experimental parts and a slightly different feel while not being too much of a departure from alien. I think Erra will fundamentally keep the same sound as the self titled record, but add and replace different elements to keep it new. I’m so pumped
I completely agree! I think bands like Erra reach a point where they have explored so much technicality that if they push further in that direction, it almost risks sacrificing the musicality of their work. Although I don't love their newer work, I feel like relative to their past catalogue Architects has made a similar move.
I think this isn‘t part of a record right now. I assume it‘s a single for their tour also called "Pull from the Ghost", so I don‘t know if they‘re really "back" but it‘s nice to have a new song by them! Song itself is cool, I will listen to it a lot - but I also think Erra could change something. The song is good and all but their sound could take a bit more variety for me. 8.5/10 :)
It takes me a few listens to warm up to a lot of their new songs for some reason. Like when Nigh to Silence came out, I wasn’t fully sold on it. Now it’s one of my favorite songs. Excited to see how this one grows on me!
I feel the same. I think it's because their music is a little hard to wrap your head around sometimes to it takes some acclamating to really appreciate it.
@@Thermobyte yeah for sure! It was a treat listening to the self titled album all of last year. Over time I was able to really appreciate the songs that I glossed over on the first few listens.
This song sounded a bit too basic for them on first listen. As did Nigh of Silence. Their stuff just has so much going on that it's hard to appreciate the intricate riffs and shit on first listen. Doesn't help that the vocals drown everything out a lot of the time and it's not due to the mixing, there's just a lot going on in the songs. The riffs in this are nuts. The chorus riff in particular is so tasty, there's zero chance Jesse plays that live while singing.
This one instantly got me. (I'm undecided still but this might be my new fav erra chorus). I like snowblood and scorpion hymm quite a bit but erra being pretty new to the scene changed there style quite a bit within a short period of time. With songs kike Sol Absentia, Pull From the Ghost etc I'm finding it harder and harder to go back to the original self titled. Idk or maybe it's just because I over played the hell out of ERRAs self titled.
some songs of erra take a little more time to process in our brain cause such a complex riff and melodies, but once you take it, you can't stop listen xD
I'm like... 90 percent sure JT and Jesse are alternataing cleans in the chorus, JT doing that first belt at the beginning. If that's the case, JT God DAYUM
Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland Polaris -almost all of them August Burns red -after rescue and restore till now Phinehas-The Fire itself Hollow front -the price of dreaming Texas in July -all of Their Discography If not for me- ep and the new album Erra -Self Titled and after it till now Like Mothes To flames -no eternity İn gold and pure like porcelain In My silence -a world gone quiet I The breather -entire discography Sirens and sailors - skeletons and After it Saviour - shine and fade . . . I'm sure I missed some of the names ...but right now... These guys are amongst top 5 producers in metal industry Be sure to check these bands if you like that crispy sound of guitars and those hammering snare drums
May be in the minority ... this is one of their best songs in years. The melody work, guitars, Alex and Jesse make this an elite track. This puts them back in the BITW conversation
The way they save the crazy high riffs for the back half of the second and third choruses after teasing them in the first… well played, Erra. Well played.
Not sure why these comments are hating, but I love this song. Having just listened to their last album, this does sound very fresh for them. Also, JT singing most the chorus is always much appreciated
Who is hating..? It's basically a circle jerk any time Erra is mentioned, and it's totally warranted most of the time. People mentioning tiny little gripes with things doesn't equal hate lol.
Just a single on its own most likely. It's similar to when Neon came out, then they released Eye of God a year later, then no new music until a year after that when they were comin out with an album. New album will prob be late next year considering Erra follows a predictable schedule. All speculation though
@@MrCholoPants3415 ohhhhh okay. I actually didn’t know that cuz I only ever got put on to Erra when Snowblood came out so anything past that I’m hazy on. Thanks tho!
Pls pls pls do a reaction to harper's debut single falling, bogdan. You won't regret it trust me. Harper is a 10 year old girl with amazing vocal talent. She can scream properly at that age, it's sooooo amazing. 🤟🤟 Also there's some singing in there aswell. Btw: Harper is the step daughter from ben lumber of Acres. I don't know if you are familiar with this band but it's pretty good aswell imo. He also produced Harper's debut single. Also she was at america's got talent and performed spiritbox holy roller there. And on top of that she even performed live with courtney :o
Loved it. Jesse sounds insane and this song goes hard but i think they could do with a little variety and experimentation, this sound has gotten old and tired in my opinion. Excited to see where they're going.
Yeah it's a good song but just anything new, feel like they're so talented they could make some more innovative stuff. Again not to say it's bad or anything I just have super high expectations for them because of how good they've shown they can be
I disagree. Drift sounds different from Augment, and Neon sounds different than Drift, and the Self Titled sounds different than Neon, and this is even distinct from the Self Titled in my opinion.
@@-Jake- Augment is my favourite album for me but it could be mainly because I found them around that time. But I think it's more just since the Neon era to now. They're clearly so ridiculously talented but I want them to start originating new sounds
