This is the new Darien machete from ESEE/Expat. The first thing I noticed about this was the price ($60-70) and that felt very reasonable for what you are getting. Then once I used it, I was hooked. It's a solid overall feel but as you will see in the video, the handle is blocky and neutral and I think it's great. Check out the video and let me know what you think.

WHO IS EXPAT?
Yes, "Expat" is a real person. A trainer, adventurer, world traveler and a lot of other things mixed in between. While working in some of the more sketchy corners of South America, Expat contacted ESEE in the search for high-quality, worst case scenario jungle survival training. Thus began a close association that has lasted for over 15 years. Expat has logged thousands of miles throughout the third world, sometimes with the ESEE team, but always with ESEE products. From armored motorcades in Colombia and trekking in the Himalayas, to earthquakes in El Salvador and hunting in the Balkans, ESEE Knives have been a constant companion. He has been a student, a translator, and an instructor for Randall's Adventure Training. Throughout his time overseas, he has developed some unique insights on tools and adventures and is currently working with ESEE to bring these designs and experiences to others. What began with a cleaver will end up... well, who knows? That's the whole point of the Expat Experience.

Normally, the cutting edge of Machete tends to be Sabre or Convex grind but this one is seemed to be Scandi grind. It makes it interesting and it enables us to use it as a large knife. For us, Japanese people, it should be useful to utilize it in the forest so I definitely want to get this product.

I got one about 2 weeks ago from smoky mountain knife works 55.00 plus tax, PHENOMENAL machete it’s like a laser beam when cutting and makes it so much easier to use vs others, watch the edge of near rocks or metal fencing tends to chip A little when nicking hard surfaces, how ever did great on hard woods too.

So regarding the lanyard. Rather than loop it around your wrist which is woefully inadequate, make it just long enough to cross over the back of your hand and loop around your thumb. Exactly how the old wooden police batons were used. This creates a super secure grip and if the handle comes out of your hand (unlikely with this method) it will not swing around wildly.

Just got one, this was a great intro to the knife. I would make the little sharp nub below the blade a better guard with a flat finger area above it, otherwise I love it so far. Such a comfortable feeling handle.

100% Made _for_ ESEE, *by* Condor Tool & Knife. Granted, that's going to upset some. However, Condor knows how to make machetes. Just wish this one came with one of their excellent leather sheaths, instead. Yes, their leather sheaths often need to be properly broken in. Best way is to put the knife into the sheath and leave it completely alone for 2 - 4 weeks (no, not joking). That way the leather molds itself around the knife or machete.

1075 and made in El Salvador. I assume that it's made by condor?

Hi Tim. Thanks for all the work you do. Just a quick question. Which would you recommend? This or the LT Wright Overland machete? Is the Overland worth the extra $- I know you get a far better sheath with it, but besides that, they seem very comparable.

I have the esse or Ontario I forgot machete micarta handles 5160 steel same color and material sheath except mine has a pocket on the front for a stone mine also has the hardness at 54/56 Rockwell also with a micarta handle just a different color (BROWN) though it was a little pricey at $100 but it’s my favorite machete better than my kabar and Ontario kukris in 1095 and I get the $100 price cause it’s American made just the way I like it 😍.

I love my 4. I would so be all about this if the cutting edge were flatter (ie sheepsfoot/wharncliffe style) and the spine a little thicker. Not sure what I'd use the belly for. I guess you could process game, but it'd be slow...and wasteful for some.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Why didn’t condor just put this out? The only thing ESEE about it is the name🥴

Carry a knife for bushcraft. A machete is for bushwacking. Would like to see how it works on scrub brush and thickets.

A little late haha but not true. I grew up on the islands my whole life. We use machete for everything no knife needed. Knife is good , but machete is good too. All in preference
