The Key Publishing Collection available through the Key Model World Shop has expanded with a limited edition of Class 60 60029 Ben Nevis in DCR grey produced by Cavalex Models for ‘OO’ gauge.
The prices are £194.95 for the DCC ready versions and £294.95 for DCC sound fitted models - the latter equipped with an ESU LokSound decoder loaded with a custom sound profile created by ESU for the Cavalex Class 60. Just 300 are being made - 150 of each type - with delivery expected in the fourth quarter of 2024. Pre-orders are open now at the Key Model World Shop with a £10 non-refundable deposit.

Hornby is facing a problem which is limited by real UK local locomotive as well as less latest technology locomotive. They have repeated old class diesel locomotives again and again. As if outside of UK, other railways have new electric locomotives, dual-mode power locomotives, etc.

The class 60s were designed in the 1980s and are almost all out of service, now. Trying to use them as support for the claim that the UK doesn't have modern locomotives is just silly. It's like looking at a Nokia 3210 and saying that Finland has old-fashioned mobile phones. Except that the class 60s are a decade older.

@@beeble2003 Of course, UK has modern locomotives, which come from Hitachi, and come from Stadler. I was mentioned modern locomotive that were designed from UK since Class 91 intercity.

Price range is not attractive if your models are made in PRC. Compared with other brands, their models are made in Europe, their price range include digital and sound. Please note.

To be fair, they understand this market very well. Each brand has its own strategic position and each brand has its own exclusive locomotive. Just like if you like British locomotives, your choice must be Hornby. If you like European Siemens, etc., then Mxxxxxx and so on. Honestly, Hornby’ customer service is very good 👍.

@@greathorton This model is nothing to do with Hornby Models (Hornby magazine is a Key Model World publication and nothing to do with Hornby the company), it's the new Cavalex Models tooled class 60 due out later this year. There are many many more model manufacturers than Hornby doing UK models as well. Also the European models are made in China. In fact the factory that makes our models also does models for the European and American markets.
