New Fallkniven X Series S1, with new Black Coating (Not a review, just some initial stuff) 

Looks promising! For the non-metric folks: 6mm is just under 1/4” 352 grams is 12.4 oz 287 grams is just over 10 oz

Finally a handle that I can readily and easily customize. I like the sheath too

Just got this knife and I love it. It's everything I look for in a knife... And it has the most important feature... It looks cool.

350g hmm that's about a $1 per gram.

You'd think with the high performance steels they'd go thinner with the blades...also, the handle not being fully covered equals cold hands in chilly climates... Lanyard hole does the trick now and I like the locking mechanism on the sheath-we'll see how reliable that one turns out. Thx 4 the vid!

A very nice release from Fallkniven. The price is still a little scary though. I hate seeing new, good fixed blades because I want them, but as it is I can barely hold my pant and belt up with 10kg of fixed blades hanging off them.

Always thought the encased tang was a solid Fallkniven feature. Nice for when it's cold out.

I have the F1x in satin on the way. I've considered buying a F1 for years and this broke me down. Love the looks of this knife and they finally improved the sheath(a lot!!)

i'd've thought the Swedes would know that hand contact with bare metal is a poor idea in cold conditions. i would say the old-school encased tang and rubbery finger guard was a better design choice for a survival knife, thinking internationally about it.

I have the A1pro, and can say the LamCos with 7mm thickness is really good for hard use. The outer layers of the LamCos are 420j2 so rust shouldn’t be an issue like you mentioned.

I like the look of that coating, and at more than 80HRC sounds good too. Waiting too see how it sharpens and performs in the knife lab.

seems like the best thing about the new scales will be the ease of replacing them with custom ones.

They also make knives in 3G, that’s an even more expensive steel. Between LamCos and Cowry.

Are the scales removable? Looks like it from the hardware, but are they epoxied together, or something silly like that?

coating went to the edge indeed. on my f1x also, went over the 1k stone with it then 3k then 8k then 12k, its a razor now absolutly super sharp! BUT for ppl who cant sharpen their knife, putting the coating over the cutting edge is really dumb!

Certainly an interesting choice from Fallkniven, maybe the pressure from Lionsteel and Bark River finally got to them. Speaking of Lionsteel, are you planning on making a review for their M7? It's their largest knife, and is .7" longer than the A1 at 7". It could be that A1 killer like the T5 and M4 are for the S1 and F1

One of the reason I am sticking mainly to my F1 is because the more textured handle on the F1 Pro really is uncomfortable. I am in Singapore and it is tropical climate here throughout the year. I hate wearing gloves here since it is hot and humid, and that handle on the F1 Pro just chew my hand up when I am trying to de-limp a branch. It feels like I am holding a file or rasp in my hand. The F1 is much more comfortable and well balanced in my hand. So is the F1X going to be worst?

Any Updated thoughts. ??....been thinking about an F1 and/or S1 for awhile, and this X series looks to have been worth holding out / the procrastination.

Hi and thanks for these first impressions! I would say that the original Fallkniven had some issues with handle material loosening under heavy use though. Anyway, could you please compare this new one to the Lionsteel T5 in Niolox which you reviewed a few years ago and liked a lot? I really like to use the knife too (after having modified it slightly) - well thought, capable, comfortable, easy to strop and sharpen, excellent sheath and the good price does not hurt either. Since you have sold some knives lately and have some cash to spend - would you be interested in reviewing G&G Hawk M.U.D.D. folder (preferably the new auto version)? Excellent, ergonomic and a very practical knife in my opinion! Thanks!

Don't care for this design. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the regular rat-tail tang of fallknivens. It's probably the strongest design of a hidden tang on a knife in the industry. The originals are ballanced perfectly, especially A1. The new sheath looks like an improvement but it's not a good enough reason for me to replace the original S1. I don't see the X series S1 doing anything better than the regular S1.

Do you find the coating to be a hinderance when sharpening? That 80 HRC coating is awesome for scratch resistance but it makes me nervous that it will effect sharpening and stropping.

Looks pretty warm and dry there. Aren’t you in the height of winter? Or did you sneak up to the other hemisphere to do this video?

Can you please compare the x series with the pro series ?

Interesting. It will have to be a helluva knife for me to go there though. My $40 SRK and my (deal!) $30 Bushcraft Black would seem to have move of its capabilities covered. (I have many more in this class and size range of course.) I look forward to your testing on it. Oh, and Japanese made is a bit of a downer for me for a Falkniven as well.
