Yes, the absolute BEAUTY of the LADIES -- particularly their VOICES!!! LFR, have you checked out Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig in the Sky"? Originally on "The Dark Side of the Moon" album (studio version) as well as the Pulse concert (live version). BOTH ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR THE FEMALE VOCALISTS' performances: Clare Torry the soloist on "Dark Side" studio version and a trio of wonderful ladies -- Sam Brown sings 1st, next is Durga McBroom, and Claudia Fontaine is 3rd -- perform in the Pulse live version.

Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a P.F. show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"... I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen. I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold. All of us fortunate enough to have seen this show live were in a TRANCE.... MESMERIZED the entire show... as you can imagine. We walked out saying.... What did we just witness? That was out of this world incredible. The Red Fender Stratocaster he used for this concert in the Guitar Collector World is ....PRICELESS

These old guys did one thing that young artist don't: Rehearse. You don't need auto tune when you practice. You don't need a machine to play the instrument when you practice. You don't need a producer to make it better in post recording, when you practice. Music is work. It's not all fame and adulation.

You should really read the lyrics to this. It’s one of their best, lyrically, imo. Talking about people turning away from the horrors of the world because it’s happening to someone else or somewhere else. No more turning away from the coldness inside. Very deep and still very true today.

ZEPPELIN IS REMARKABLE in their own right and are genuine ROCKERS, FLOYD however I have always seen them as not rockers, BUT AS MODERN CLASSICAL COMPOSERS. Their music has the slow soft vibe or classical music and the UPBEAT Hard feeling of the classical music that then goes back soft. PINK FLOYD IS JUST ON A DIFFERENT LEVEL than MOST BANDS, ELO is also such a band.

Pink Floyd is legendary! No other Rock band in history is like Pink Floyd. It's crazy, they use the same instruments as virtually all the Rock Bands ever, yet they sound soooo different and unique. I guess when you sell over 450 million albums worldwide, more than any other Rock Band in history, except The Beatles, )600 million), you must be very unique and talented. You've listened to a lot of PF Van, you know how they take the listener on a cerebral journey, that's a powerhouse of talent! I don't know if you're aware of how they got their band name, after a few different ones they settled on Pink Floyd. Now, Pink Floyds got much of their inspirations from ole' time American Blues players. And they took their band name from two of those American Blues players from the 1920s and 1930s,.... Their names were, PINK Anderson, and FLOYD Council!

If you get a chance to go see Brit Floyd you should go . We went to the Orpheum in Memphis a couple of weeks ago and saw them and it was awesome , the light show and sound was absolutely great . One thing that surprised me was seeing about 25 to 30 black women in one group , all wearing purple tee shirts , and aging from a teenager to a senior citizen there to see the show . All I could do was smile , it was a great night .

You know someone is listening to Floyd because you can't help but close your eyes to absorb the whole experience. Then Gilmore pierces you with his solo and you are gone. Roger Waters wrote some good lyrics in the first incarnation, but you can tell it was Gilmore that was the heart of the music Floyd created as it stayed the same in the second incarnation without Waters.

Youll never get to play so big and loud anywhere. You love the sound! And the people that come to listen. I liked playing in front of people but i loved playing for me and the chemistry of the band.more than anything else. I played for the love of playing . My forever favorite band.💗 (But they really do need to be listened to with their full albums, the way they were meant to be listened to and while Roger was still part of the band. Concept albums like Animals and Dark Side of the Moon, etc.)

Can't agree with you more! Their albums are not separate songs. But all songs played into one album!!!!!

You could check out the final performance of the original members in 1985 at Live Aid. 25 minutes and 4 songs of pure magic.

I saw this show in Cleveland at the old stadium. It rained like Hell the whole time and no one cared. A truly magical night.

As far as I know Pink Floyd is the only band that uses what's called stream-of- consciousness in writing their music

There is no need to rank these bands. Zep and Pink Floyd are in completely different genres in a way. No comparison I can make. Is Rain Song better than Comfortably Numb? It's all personal preference. As a musician and music lover myself, there is no doubt both bands deserve massive respect but what you like better is up to personal preference. Musicians rarely really argue who is better. However, it is always understandable when someone argues for a great artist's inclusion to the top of the list. So many great artists and groups, it is a waste of time to try to rank them all. Many blessings to you Van!

David Gilmour is a musical genious as well as in production and direction of his band. He is a bigtime perfectionist.

Check out RUN LIKE HELL and also SORROW, both live from the Pulse Concert (1994). The extended guitar solo and the spectacular light show combine for an unforgettable performance.

No more turning away From the weak and the weary No more turning away From the coldness inside Just a world that we all must share It's not enough just to stand and stare Is it only a dream that there'll be No more turning away?

You should get thier Pulse, Live DVD, the actual concert. It's a double DVD set. The first DVD is them doing a bunch of their hits. DVD 2 they perform the whole Dark Side of the Moon Album. And in that DVD there is an indoor plane crash. That's not a typo, an indoor plane crash. And that's all I'll say about it. Just get the concert and watch.. RU-vid search Pink Floyd Speak to Me/ Breathe/ On the Run Pulse Remastered 2019. The crash happens in the last 30-45 seconds..
