I went to this concert and listening to it today takes me right back to that night over 30 years ago. My ticket cost me $50 and the sweatshirt I bought was $30. Best concert I ever went to (and I've been to a lot). The short haired brunette back up singer was absolutely phenomenal. She sang the entire song "The Great Gig in the Sky" alone. In more recent concerts, all 3 back ups sang their own parts. I'll never forget her performance. David Gilmore is a rock god...and the laser show was mesmerizing.
David Gilmour's voice is EVERYTHING. The rest is just icing on the cake. I was introduced to their music just 20 years ago but they'll be my favorite band for the rest of my life.
Everybody love’s Comfortably Numb, Sorrow, Brick in the Wall, etc…….but for me, this is their best song. The raw emotion and artistic expression in this song is just top notch. The melody, the hooks and the ending are just…perfection. 👍🎸🎶😎🇨🇦
This version of the song really knocks my socks off every time. That part when it's just the voices backed by the accoutic guitar gives me goosebumps. Dogs of War from this same concert is a great song and it has a sax solo that'll melt your face off.
You listening to a true legends of the rock world Pink Floyd and David Gilmour voice and his guitar are untouchable when it comes to music truely a huge talent you can’t get no better experience!!!!!
Richard Wright keyboard playing shines on this throughout. Starting with the haunting opening and then later on he complements the solo so well. Such an integral member of the band
I was lucky enough to win the opportunity to buy 12 tix for their show in Vancouver in the 90s. They were mind blowingingly good. Best concert I've ever seen. The female singers, too, were so integral and striking in their performances. Pure gold ❤
Some of the best 9 min of my life. There are actually 2 "drummers". Nick Mason is the original drummer and Gary Wallis the percussionist who is usually seen standing up and jumping a lot for the high cymbals. He is seen in the short opening clip you started this with. Excellent reaction! I'm almost jealous that I can't relive the experience of listening and watching PF. Thanks for reacting to this great song.
I will always rate this live performance, along with the Led Zeppelin one off at the O2 Arena, as the two very best concerts I ever went to, and I have been to MANY!!!
This was at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island in New York! I was there. I used to attend around 12 or so concerts a year the 80’s and 90’s, and Since then I spent the last quarter century working at 2 of our country’s most famous venues in Nashville, and this is still the greatest show I’ve ever seen, maybe tied with Garth Brooks at Central Park. Both shows were events of their own kind.
BEST Back up Singers EVER Rachel Fury Durga McBroom & Margaret Taylor They did the Best Live rendition of The Great Gig in the Sky (1988) Best Song to have on Loop from the Album A Momentary Lapse of Reason is Terminal Frost (instrumental)
Awesome video to react to. That guitar is a beast. It's singing the protest too. I've always loved this song and this live performance gives me chills.
One of my all-time favorite albums and definitely my favorite Pink Floyd album. The entire album is great, but Learning to Fly, One Slip, Yet Another Movie are standouts with an absolutely stunning finale in the song Sorrow. It's quite a transformative experience to take in the entire album, I hope you'll check it out.
As brilliant as Comfortably Numb is, On The Turning Away for me is a more emotional ride. SalvoG, you have become my favourite reaction RU-vidr. Genuine love for music, true emotional responses, and a reminder that this era was a godsend to grow up with.
On The Turning Away is just as relevant now as it was then. (But that can be said about so many of their songs) It has been one of their best IMO since I first heard it in the early 80's!
Awesome Reaction and analysis. I just subscribed to your channel. Nothing is rushed with Pink Floyd/ Gilmour. If you need a 3 minute introduction, you take it. Some may think it’s a waste of time, but not so; it’s important, it sets the atmosphere. That is why they are a cut above the rest.
On the Turning Away is one of my favorite non Waters Pink Floyd albums. This whole album is so good, from beginning to end. Major on my playlist. This video is from the live concert album, The Delicate Sounds of Thunder, a great live album/video concert. The title refers to the cheers and applause from the audience, which is a near constant throughout the whole of the album
You sure had me scared I was like no not another dark video :) nd live Floyd at that. Then the lights came on and I was overjoyed. As always the look on your face says it all. Talk about being lost in the sauce :) Imagine listening to Pink Floyd back in the day doing acid They take you on a trip even without drugs This is one of my favorite live performances of theirs so glad you enjoyed it and yes that 9 minutes flew bye Cant wait for the Styx Renegade live reaction
Hey dude. So glad to see you found your way to this GREAT Floyd performance. I discovered it some months ago and was mesmerized and touched by it. I've watched so many reaction videos of it and people are so moved by it. One Y'tuber cries every time she hears Pink Floyd, and has been a pleasure to watch as I adore Pink Floyd. I don't usually request a listen by you, but if you enjoy quality vocals, and I mean "top drawer", check out Gabriel Henrique's AGT Golden Buzzer performance. You'll thank me. Peace brother!
This album and tour happened shortly before my teenage-self discovered Pink Floyd. It's weird seeing David Gilmour in '80s attire -- Versace-style colorful jacket over a collarless shirt, jumbo shoulder pads, and a hairstyle that is close to a mullet.
This is a perfect example of the "sound" of Pink Floyd, versus another band like U2. You could can tell you're going to be listening a to Pink Floyd song and what a song it is.
Definitely a single. The Delicate Sound of Thunder (precursor to Pulse), imho, is the band's tightest recorded musical performance, though Pulse is probably the superior total package. From this concert, "Yet Another Movie" (also on A Momentary Lapse of Reason) is a great performance.
You seriously missed Rick's keyboards and his beautifully melodic opening which set the tone for these specific lyrics and everything which follows. The cinematography and editing were outstanding, as were the backing vocalists and players. David's best solo imho. Any cut from this remastered version is worth viewing. As good live music concert video production gets.
I saw them twice in Atlanta, each with 60,000 of my closest friends. An hour after they left the stage at least half of those friends refused to leave the stadium. That's the impact of that incredible theatrical experience.
Their take on unhoused people and how we look down our noses… not realizing that many of us are but one or two paychecks away from similar circumstances.
you know, I've asked alot of people over the years, who is there top 5, best bands EVER! Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin are always in that list, 85% of the time
Love Pink Floyd. My 3 favorite bands to this day are Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Jethro Tull. If you haven't had a chance to listen to Tull, I suggest you start with Aqualung.
Saw this tour live back in the day. Met my friends in a pub across the road from the venue. Then I unexpectedly saw my sister with her friends. She handed me a pill and said 'take this'. Of course I did... We all walked into the open-air venue and could smell all the weed in the air lol. So probably could the cops in attendance. An amazing concert and we were all blown away when the 'flying pig' crossed the sky above us. A trippy trance it sure was.
The term I was told years ago is a CONTEXTUAL HIGH. Pink Floyd, unlike any other band is the only band that has done this. Makes you feel blissfully high without actually taking anything. A healthy high....called a CONTEXTUAL HIGH.
You're really into this, and I f***in' dig it... cool man! This isn't one of my favourite Floyd albums, but I like your vibe. Check out something from the "Pulse" live video 1994... preferably something from "The Division Bell" album... "Keep Talking" off the top of my head. Cheers! 👍😎🎶
Great song- pink Floyd fan here. Young lust is awesome off the wall. Can you react to Chris rea Road to hell part 1&2 please please love to see yr reaction to it. It fire 🔥
What you missed is the lyrics. It's easy to do that, getting caught up in the music. But listen to it again with the lyrics in front of you. The meaning is important. Thanks for the reaction.
the best non band video which Roger Waters said once that most video's ( MTV) have nothing to do with the song. Pink Floyd " on the turning away"(1989-07-15)FM by think Floyd.61 with 9 million views ***********. "pulse 1994" 14 days in a row sold out Earl's Court .( their last concert.) 200,000 watts of power, 200 ton stage, 4 sets of 32 wireless speakers. " comfortably numb" " sorrow" " high hopes" " shine on you crazy diamonds" the best you will ever see.
Tell me about it I worked as a stagehand when they came to NY on the Wall tour never saw so many tractor trailers full of gear to set up. Plus building and tearing down the wall every night
Fancy a challenge? I’m guessing, King Crimson is a band you’re probably not too familiar with. Driven by idiosyncratic musical maestro Robert Fripp, the ensemble has been around since 1968, and has become known for its complex compositions, dynamic changes, and influential albums. Often not for the faint-hearted, Fripp willingly concedes that the music is not for everyone, but if you get it, you get it. So if you’re curious, and up to the challenge, the live version of “Starless” is acknowledged to be one of their finest performances: King Crimson ‘Starless’ live: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gWmECLnMKGk.html No need to thanks me.
I live in France, i saw them in 1994, in my hometown STRASBURG, France, it's sunday morning here, i watched your reaction, and....YOU MAKE ME HAPPY....I'M, JUST, HAPPY, BECAUSE, YOU'RE HAPPY TO SEE THEM.....😂My favourite's one with sorrow....I prefer Jimi Hendrix, it's my god, but, when you see that, i'm 44 years old, i'm a guitarist, i worked as a roadie with legends of music, Clapton, Rolling Stones, AC/dc, Santana, i saw so much great bands, i saw eminem too a rapper, i worked with classical musicians, etc....This morning i'm happy about your reaction, but at the same time, i'm sad, because today, we don't have real musicians, bands anymore😢Anyway, thanks for your reaction....Merci pour ta réaction, tu m'a donné du bonheur😂I like to see peoples be happy....It makes me happy too....I think we need that today on that stupid planet....And that song is MAGIC. ..Peace from France✌️
I'm particularly affected by the ladies in the backing vocals section. Until you SEE them, you're pretty much unaware of them; but once you do see them, you can pick them out from the instruments easily. Without the ladies, this would be a lesser song.
