You already look and sound more motivated! For me, the stress of working for someone else was exhausting. Once I realized I could grow my own business and meet my financial (and other) goals, the need to have a "real job" became so much less important. Even my family stopped asking if I was looking for work and started asking how my business was doing instead. Everybody had a mind shift!

So proud of you for quitting your job!! I just requested a month long leave of absence from my job and am waiting the decision. But I’m definitely going to be quitting before the year is out and when I do, the first thing I’m doing is spending a month in Colombia 🇨🇴

I am so excited for you!! You sharing your journey about your corporate burnout and transitioning to self-employment has actually helped me be more grateful for the job that I have and more motivated about grinding towards my goals this year. I am so looking forward to living vicariously through you as you embark on this self employment journey! What a dream! As for my 2024 goals, I had set a goal to invest $30,000 this year and I just increased that goal to $40,000 because I'm way ahead of schedule! Cheers to hitting our new goals this year! 🥂

Do check with your tax accountant on the ratio of salary to profit distributions. The salary has to be ‘reasonable’ in order to get the tax treatment you are planning on.

Thank you so much!! ❤️ I can do that but I'm not sure of what I'll be doing yet. I was thinking to just leave my 401(k) where it is because I like what I'm invested in, but I'll be talking to my Accountant about this decision!

What are the categories for your sinking funds?
@PersonalFinancewithLeila
@PersonalFinancewithLeila Месяц назад
Emergency fund, travel, beauty (which is now just savings for insurance tax credit), car/car maintenance, car insurance, taxes, business, and gifts. I do have a few more but I'm not currently funding those and they barely have a balance.

Hi Leila, I was wondering if you’d still say it was the right decision to switch careers and put all the effort and time into learning salesforce when you only stayed in the field for so long? (I don’t mean this in a negative way, just wondering what your thoughts are) Thanks!
@PersonalFinancewithLeila
@PersonalFinancewithLeila Месяц назад
I definitely think it was! It allowed me to work remote, which allowed me to move further out from the city and save money, I had a higher pay, and then a 401(k) with a 6% match. Plus I learned a new skill and if I ever needed to go back to work (which hopefully won't be the case lol) I would have that to fall back on!

Definitely window shop for new car insurance. My husband has a 2019 Corolla and he pay $350 every 6 mths. I have a 2005 Benz and pay $135 every 6 mths. But every year or so we ship for cheaper insurance.

Meanwhile, I have a 2019 Corolla, have never had an accident, and pay $950 for 6 months 😢 Texas has super high rates of uninsured drivers so rates are stupidly high.

I hope this is not offensive but now is a perfect opportunity for your boyfriend to take on more of the financial responsibility while you stabilize your business. I don’t know his income but based off how you describe him he seems to be someone who is doing well financially. Partnership is about helping each other. I wish I had a partner in my life I would have 10x what I have now lol. Use all resources (including boyfriend) that are accessible to you.

So over the last year that we've lived together, I actually made more money than him but he still paid more. This was ultimately my decision to leave my job and wasn't out of any true necessity (like ill health or anything luckily) so I don't feel like it's fair to make him pay for everything when I'm fully capable of it. He does pay for the big ticket items (we're getting our roof done for example), but I'm confident I can pull my weight no problem!
