Today is all about planting! I'm starting with a few new perennials in my perennial bed (salvia and geum) and then moving into the vegetable garden to plant tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. I got rained out halfway through, but that's what gardening in the elements is all about!

If they followed you last year and the year before, then they would see your bumper crop of tomatoes of every variety. Do what you like and never mind others' comments.

Years ago when we had a huge garden all tomatoes were laid on their side in furrows formed by a tractor. All varieties did so well planted that way. Our plants came in bundles of 50 from the feed store. That's way too many to dig holes for! Trenching definitely works.

I’ve seen many videos on trenching your tomatoes! Many. It’s a preference, not a rule.

I've planted tomatoes both ways and they both worked the same. If I'm doing regular gardening I lay them down. When doing square foot gardening I plant them deeper. I'm in zone 5b/6a and my tomatoes and peppers were in the ground and a couple days ago we had temps of 30 F at night. Got everything covered and it all survived. I love seeing your garden videos because yours always look so beautiful and healthy.

I’m in Texas, zone 8a, and I picked my first tomatoes on June 2nd. I also picked my first squash and zucchini about May 20th. Everything has gone great until yesterday. I’ve had very few bug issues until this time. I checked my squash yesterday and one plant was almost covered with aphids. This happened overnight as I check my garden daily as we usually are bothered by many bugs very early in the season. I have treated my plants and I hope I don’t lose my squash plants. I’ve tried planting my tomatoes laying on their side before. However, because it can get quite hot early in Texas I feel I get the best results planting tomatoes deeply. I think shallow side planting allows the roots to get too hot from our intense heat we can get.

Oh the Smell! Lol. My neighbors always know when I have fertilizer my plants with espoma products. I try to do it all in one day, so the smell is a one time occurrence each season. It doesn’t bother me. My plants love it!

When I lived in Tennessee my foster mother had an attachment to her tractor you sat on it and it would grab the Tomato out of your hand and going to the ground and it did a trench just like you do and my foster mother had acres and Acres of tomatoes so I'm pretty sure the trench process works pretty well just saying

I watch all your videos. This year I am paying even more attention because you have help me create more enthusiasm for the process. I am feeling so much better health wise just getting out there and working. I'm already planning on enlarge next years garden to help accommodate more squash and onion, garlic and more yellow wax beans. I needed this process to connect with what I really enjoy doing.

I love to watch your videos. Most young people don’t want to garden or can and persevere anymore. Could you please share some of your recipes for bell peppers. I always have so many and don’t know what to do with them all other than the obvious. Thank you for sharing.

What is the cement wall and building behind you when you were planting the peppers. Not sure how I’ve missed it in the past. Been watching for years when you were doing the “Getting Dirty” series 2016 or 2017. Learned so much.

Kaleb, have you ever mix veggies w your flower beds? Like peppers, basil or green veggies? Im thinking of doing this because I have no more room in my small veggie garden. Just a thought. Love you.

Can you tells about your gloves please? Brand name, where you got them? Glad the weather was kind to you. I kind of disagree about bed width, some of us who are older and/or shorter might find 2 or 3 feet a better fit. Like you say, do what works. Happy gardening, Kaleb.
