New Gear For 2024 & Plans to Get the New Baby Outside & Hiking! 

Here’s some of the mandatory internet unsolicited parenting advice lol. It’s exciting to hear any new parent talk about bringing their littles into the wilderness. I also recall my experiences ever so very much not living up to my expectations. Mostly what I learned 1. Be flexible (for all things parenting!) 2. Understand and be ok with most outings not going as expected 3. Sometimes it’s best to just completely change the whole plan, even go home. It’s ok, there will be many, many more opportunities 4. Be creative… a planned overnight by the river that is just crashing and burning can turn into a stroller day wandering shops and eating ice cream in a nearby tourist area you might have made fun of in the past. 5. Hang in there with it. Almost everything will end up looking different/taking a different form than imagined… but that’s one of the many beauties of parenting is getting exposed to new ways of seeing and doing almost everything, whether you’re ready or not. Such an exciting new way of life that will for sure get harder before it gets easier. As soon as you’re used to one thing working everything will change lol. But nothing is more amazing. Enjoy all those little moments, get sleep over anything else. Love and patience are the key… no matter how big of deal something seems, it’ll all work out. So excited for you guys!

Zirk 40 is a great pack and it holds a bit of extra weight very comfortably. Highly recommend. Another option is nashville packs cutaway if you want a cottage option.

Taking care of your baby is much more important right now than getting RU-vid videos out. People can be patient. lol My husband and I took our 2.5 year old out on a 3 week backpacking trip on the AT last spring and we used that osprey kid carrier and really liked it!

That was a funny opening line …. “Life is very different” …. It will never be the same ( mostly better)

Congratulations, she's beautiful! Nothing like being a parent. Enjoy the littles years. They really do grow up so fast. Mine babies are now 22 and 20 years old. All the best to you guys! My wife has two pair of Hoka Mach 5 shoes. She absolutely loves the feel and comfort. And, they are sooo light. Love that carrier. I used a Baby Bjorn all the time with both of my children. Loved having them in the front.

I have a zerk 40 and the fast kumo 36. I LOVE BOTH! The zerk feels amazing and carries heavier weight with no hip belt. I don’t think you’d go wrong with either one. I do feel like the Zerk 40 would also work well for long distances.

Congrats on the baby girl! I’ve got two myself, and it’s never a dull moment. Enjoy the time with her as everything just flies by so fast. Can’t wait to see the full family on trail. Oh, and hiking and camping with kids is a logistical and emotional challenge, so embrace it, lol!

Can’t speak to the Kumo Fastpack but the Zerk 40 is the most comfortable Fastpack I have though it’s bigger than you might think. Another option you might consider is the Outdoor Vitals Skyline 30. I’ve removed the waist belt and replaced it with my LiteAF waist pack. Congrats on the baby :)

Congratulations! My first baby was born in November 1986 and I spent that winter hiking around town in the snow with her in a front pack, with stops at the library or coffee shop to take a few minutes out of the cold. Enjoy this wonderful time with your daughter!

I wish you so much luck!!! I had my first baby in March and have been desperate for a hike. She doesn't love being carried on the front so I am waiting until September when she can ride in the backpack carrier. It was a hard pivot but I know its for the best. Congrats Taylor! Re: Fastpacks, I went with the GG Kumo 36 Fast and I'm happy with it. I've posted a couple of videos on my Channel. I find it's quite stable while running and loaded. Still, as an engineer and seasoned backpacker/endurance athlete, I'd love to design my own especially since I have an old GG G5 backpack I carried on the JMT that weighs 8 oz!

Congratulations on babygirl! I hate my ON shoes that a shoe store recommended. I didn’t know any better. Super heavy,squeaky and very slippery on wet ground. I bought the blue OR hoodie last year and unfortunately can’t only use it as a windbreaker since it’s too hot for me. I’m getting the gossamer fast pack. The Wander Women did a good review and really like it. Keep us updated on the one you get please. That chair will be very handy for you and baby. 😊❤

Congratulations and welcome to Motherhood! I have 2 boys age 3 and 1 in the woods of southwestern NH. I love how you're prioritizing just being together and being able to relax and be comfortable outside- she is lucky to start life in the peaceful forests and you'll get back to your more vigorous adventures in good time! I find the soft Moby wraps so comfortable for walking in the early months because you can spread the fabric out to make wide shoulder straps and disperse the weight, and I liked not having clips and straps. My husband also did a lot of the carrying once I started hiking vertically again and that really helped me get back into the swing of things while my pelvis was still wobbly and my balance was adjusting post birth. It's a wonderful journey and I'm excited to see your adventures with your little one.
