One thing I'm excited about is that the creators of this graphic novel are both openly queer. If these graphic novels manage to canonize Ravenpaw, Barley and/or Tallstar's sexualities or be more explicit than Ravenpaw's Farewell, it will be a massive win for this fandom.
moonkitti dragging me back into my warrior cats phase by my legs 😭 there are three types of replies under my comment; the “ONE OF US!!” the “ANGELDUST PFP/ Hazbin hotel fan!” and the “fr tho”
I absolutely love buff Silverstream… we’ve always been told that the RiverClan cats are the most well-fed so I think it makes perfect sense that she’d be bigger. I hope all of the RiverClan cats are muscular… especially the she-cats like Leopardstar and Mistyfoot 👀
Thunderclan is often described as the largest of the clans, river clan is just the fatest. In tall stars revenge Thunderclan is described as “so buff the ground shook beneath their paws.”
@@Yeibaldreamss for me I figured riverclan’d be lean but muscular, considering they swim so much it might make sense just to reduce drag in the water but I don’t know that much about that sort of thing
@@Totallynotredtail cat figures and anatomy generally don’t favor swimming. Their tails, legs and head would hold them back a lot. They usually fish at the edge of the river cause they typically aren’t fast enough to catch fish under water. Fish catching requires much less physical activity than chasing rabbits.
I absolutely love that all the she-cats aren't yassified. Spottedleaf and Silverstream are called pretty in the books and the website descriptions but they're still allowed to look like cats. They all look so soft, I just wanna fluff all of these kitties so bad! I was apprehensive when we only had the cover art to go off of because, honestly, the cover is not the best. But having seen all the previews, I'm SUPER excited for this book! It will also allow me to re-live the first arc without having to spend days upon days re-reading the books. If they keep up the 2-books-per-comic, it'll be much less daunting to read three graphic novels than six 300-ish page long books.
It's amazing seeing pretty cats who aren't just skinny cats with makeup. Spottedleaf is short and fluffy, and Silverstream is big and muscly. It's great, there's variety!
OH MY GOD REAL!! i rlly hope they make her into a big sister figure because i love her character here + it's the best opportunity to finally do her justice
@@dollybeagle I always had an au in the back of my mind where she ends up living longer and is more of a big sister to firepaw rather than... a lover... yuck...
I think this adaptation is a good chance to round out the series quirks and missteps. As much as I love the original arc, Sandpaw's behavior to Sandstorm by the end of the books isn't explained very well. Her being more playful initially lends itself to her eventually liking Firepaw more believable.
I think that Warriors would definitely thrive in this format. It's a great way to introduce the series to a new audience and draw back old fans at the same time.
im ASTRONOMICALLY excited for the graphic novels oh my god. BUFF SILVERSTREAM??? MASCARA TIGERSTAR??? once these drop theyre gonna be my pfp on everything for MONTHS OMFG
Im so exited to read this, when i saw the preview showed Dustpaw's grief for Redtail, i was sold. We only really got one line in forest of secrets and i like seeing more characters actually care about each other
I am SO EXCITED for this!!! It's gonna be such a great way to introduce younger kids to the series, and so many of the lil background details they added so far are so good. I love Longtail cheering for Darkstripe and how kinda playful Sandpaw is while teasing Firepaw, it gives all the cats so much personality. ALSO Longtail's weird sideburns make him look (to me) like he's got a frat-boy hairstyle which fits him. And we are finally free of mascara Bluestar. The reign of mascara Tigerstar has begun.
I think my favourite intangible hard to describe thing about the look of these adaptations is that they feel like they so wonderfully capture the level of passion for these silly cat books, on a level I haven't seen in ages. It feels like the type of art that a kid could pick up and read and get inspired by, just like I was as a kid who read into the wild when I was young, and I adore that. When I think about Warriors as a series, no matter my criticisms or feelings on it currently, I have a lot of fondness when I think about how many people got their passion for art, animation, character design (etc) from the community and series. When my partner first showed me the art, I remember thinking that: "Man, a kid is gonna open this and get so into art because of these silly cat books from this, and I love that for them!"
As a character designer, people really don't realize how much thought goes into conveying personality through features like eyelashes and eyebrows. I design every character I draw with eyelashes and eyebrows that are personalized to match their personality, so that tangent in this video made me giddy. Seeing Warriors drawn in a way that doesn't just make them look like they were made in a character creator from some flash game is incredible
As someone who works at a library, this development did not shock me not only because Wings of Fire's graphic novels are selling like hotcakes, but also because adapting popular children's series into graphic novels is a VERY big trend right now. It isn't just Wings of Fire- Babysitter's Club, Animorphs, and Magic Treehouse all have ongoing graphic novel series, just to name a few. That said, I agree completely that the art in this looks fantastic! It's very expressive and cute, and definitely comes across like the artists had an understanding of fanon perception of the characters. A detail you didn't mention but that I noticed is that Bluestar even seems to have one of those leader stars some people draw- its in the lighter patch on her chest.
the thing about this i’m most hyped about is that its pretty clear that these artists are From The Fandom!? like no one who didnt have a warriors phase as a kid would draw their cats like that. it feels like its a loved project and like its going to be one of the best things to come from the publishing company in YEARS
Making Silverstream buff is the best choice they could've made. I'm not sure if this is the case w the english wc aswell but in the czech translation, she calls Greystripe AN IDIOT for falling and is described as "strong and swift". I'm so happy they took to approach to make her seem "meaner", I love it so much
I agree with everything you said, my expectations for this project are on the fucking moon at this point with how good everything we've seen so far is. But on a serious note, I really hope they don't downplay the violence. Like I get they're probably not gonna go full slasher film gore like some of the fandom tends to portray it, but I can think of several scenes that could have their emotional impact completely destroyed if the horrors of the event are censored too much. I just feel like the artists are gonna be walking a very thin tight rope trying to make it true to the original and still make it "kid friendly". So yeah, I hope they pay these artists a decent fortune. Also hold up this is being worked on by the people who made dungeon critters??? That is one of my favorite graphic novels!
@@KiiboHasControversialOpinionss ??? ngl thats an odd view. visual art is always 100x more impactful for me than writing, and these artists clearly are skilled in compositions, so id be surprised if a scene like silverstream's death fell short.
Mr. Barry’s work was very influential to me as a child so I was genuinely heartbroken to hear he was retiring, but I’m also very excited to see where the new graphic novel series takes us. I agree that the character designs look like something right out of the fandom, they seem like something I’d see on a map call. The colors are vibrant and beautiful, and I obsessed with the Brokenstar design, he is so.
I'm actually so impressed with the new design for the new graphic novel! I just thought the old graphic novel cats looked a bit off... but their totally fixed now!
Warrior cats becomeing graphic novels means alot to me as a person who struggles with reading long paragraphs And to hear such a glowing review makes me so Hopeful for it !!!
The artsyle is very reminiscent of some modern webcomics too, down to the way gender is treated in the character design. Which makes perfect sense considering the modern comic scene is full of webcomics!
It looks like it's done by fans, which is absolutely a compliment seeing how the art done by amazing animators and artists compares to what official art we already have. It looks like there is so much passion behind the art!!! 😭❤️
You said it perfectly, this will be a success because it looks like it was drawn by a member of our community. I have a few quips but overall, I'm so excited to revisit the series with these.
Idk how involved the artists are with the famdom, but it really feels like theyre part of it! Most official warriors merch reads as having been designed from a simple description of each characters appearance, but this art looks like it was made by a member of the fandom who has seen the loads of fanart out there and made their own unique designs inspired by it. Its just beautiful!
the art is SO shapy, and so beautiful! if I had this during the big rise of warriors maps and amvs, I would have shaped my entire art style off of it lol.
Well I do love the cartoony art style, I truly do, it will be very hard to capture the more tense and gory moments of the series. (For ex; the battles, the blood, the horror of when Scourge killed tigerstar, swiftpaw and bright hearts fight, the realistic birth of silver stream, and etc.)
I was genuinely stunned it looked this incredible when they revealed it. It looks like it was made with so much love and attention to detail. The graphic novel artists are incredible and I love them
I'm mostly positive towards what we've seen of them but with some caveats My main gripe is that the art style, for as vibrant and expressive it is, is sometimes a bit too cutesy and/or the expressions are a little out of place. For the former, the more cutsy style, works extremely well for the lighthearted scenes, but for some of the more serious ones it can look a little wonky. For the latter, best example is the Sandpaw scene @10:46 where I find Sandpaw's expression in the right panel to be not fitting the context at all. She sticks out her tongue with an angry-happy "bleh" as if she were sticking out her tongue toward Firepaw after they had some sort of argument or as if she'd won the upper hand after bullying him. That makes little sense considering she just met him and there's no history between them yet. I'd have moreso expected an over the top distgusted expression instead of what's there. Perhaps that also was the intention but if it was it wasn't conveyed very well imo. I guess time will tell how good or bad this the rest of the adaptations will do with this overall. This may as well just be a one-off thing. At least they are more expressive than before. The biggest change we know of so far (Princess being there from the beginning) is so far really good. I hope that whatever will get changed in the future will be equally as good and not detrimental. I wouldn't mind the adaptations fixing or streamlining the stories more but I also don't want them to make things worse either. I think my personal favourite thing about the adaption so far are the backgrounds/environments. They look really, really good. The ThunderClan forest looks so dense and overgrown it's great
Oh my gosh I love Spottedleafs design so so much. She’s so cute!!! The artists/adaptors seem to have a really good grasp on what works and what doesn’t in this series, so I hope they really are gonna go with the interpretation where Firepaw just has a little kitten crush on her because she’s so cool and pretty, but even post-mortem filling a big sister/mentor role instead.
I'll be honest, it looks amazing. I might try and get my little gremlin hands on this when i can. Imo, Buff Silverstream >>>> slim pretty silverstream It makes sense in a way.. Ive seen a few other people point out that it could be from her family (i think shes related to crookedstar? I cant remember) and also the fact that they'd need muscle to swim :)
I got my preorder yesterday and read the whole thing in a few hours. EVERYTHING ABOUT IT IS BEAUTIFUL AND WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW MUCH I LOVE IT!!! So excited for the second book!!
Honestly this will be the perfect birthday gift and the only thing that I want since my birthday is in July. Plus I'm pretty sure that's gonna be after the GCSE exams so this would be the perfect thing to read after all that stress of those exams. I think if they do continue with this I'd be most excited to see what they do for the second series, the new prophecy. I really want to see how they draw Squirrelflight
I have not read warrior cats in years, but I'm actually excited to read this graphic novel! I love graphic novels and how they can make bg characters and elements come alive whether it's for comedic effect, to add in lil' cameos or for more emotion (plus, the bgs can look really pretty and give atmosphere to a location.) And a plus to this is we'll get to see the whole of thunderclan and the other cats and not have to just live in Firepaw's mind the whole story.
I haven't really touched warriors besides enjoying and watching your content with zero context but this colourful, distinct and charming style might actually get me to read and engage in the stories finally.
I am so excited I preordered it before the video was over. I am late to the WC party in terms of reading the original books, as I just finished OoTS last night, and was itching for an excuse to read the books over again once I am fully caught up to the recent releases. I dearly hope that they adapt the entire series as well! It's such a breath of fresh air to see. I'm obsessed already with the artstyle and everything about it.
You know what I love? The kin. Ravenpaw and Dustpaw are siblings, they look more alike. Silverstream and Oakheart are related, they look more alike. Whitestorm and Bluestar are related they look alike. Spottedleaf and Redtail are related, they look alike. Princess and Firepaw, Yellowfang and Brokenstar. See what I mean?
oh gosh this makes me soooo excited ahhh i can really feel the effort and passion from the creators of it, ill definitely try to get my hands on a copy 🥺🥺
Moonkitti! Can you make a Warriors cats as Disney characters??? I’d love to see you make Firestar Mickey Mouse, and maybe Lionblaze as Simba? Perhaps Purdy as Gardfield???
@@MoonkittiI always thought the queen was meant to be Goldenflower. She's Swiftpaw's mother and he would've been a young kit at this time. As for the five kits, It's always been apparent to me that those are Swiftkit, Cinderkit, Brightkit, Brackenkit, and Thornkit, the latter four would be newly-born, but they do just barely fit into the timeframe of Into the Wild up until Fire and Ice.
@@Moonkitti BYE FR i saw those guys on the wiki under like unnamed minor characters . I really dislike how there are SOO many plotholes/faults/unexplained Things (like literally, starclan is so inconsistent, where do their prophecies even come from, so many characters lose their personalities just to cause plot development for the main character, ect). part of me wants to believe the authors are doing all this on purpose and will later reveal some like. crazy plot point that explains ALL the mishaps in warriors and the fans will be like Oh! We underestimated you! ' This all makes sense now yay! ' because I HATE thinking about all the messy discontinuities they get under my skin so bad
@@frostedsketch14 OH maybe.. thats a good point but i do not recall Goldenflower having black markings(?) But yeah I never thought about that. thats so true they might be those 5 kits. I wanna ask the authors about this not even gonna lie
WAAA I LOVE HOW MUCH PERSONALITY THE ARTISTS GAVE THEM IN THEIR DESIGNS it’s so heartwarming esp with the classic characters. Whitestorm’s eyebrows are everything to me
Judging by How the fandom is loving It It Will sell faster than normal, and also, with everyone talking about It more people will come into the fandom, neat!
I am so SO excited for this, from the moment it was announced and i saw that cover i just NEEDED it. Ive not been reading anything in the warriors series, nor been in the fandom for a year or two now but i am going to buy this as soon as i am able after release because this is so exciting and its going to be super nostalgic i know it
one little thing i noticed, especially after seeing princess: they gave her a breakaway collar (and they gave rusty one too, that's super cool!! it also explains how, hypothetically, longtail could rip the collar off!!!!) breakaways are the most common collar type for a cat (and the most recommended one) and they're being realistic AND stylized and i love that finally, official wc content i can be excited for/isn't trash
I FREAKING LOVE THIS ART STYLE!!??!??!?! LIKE, IT'S NOT EVEN ALL THAT SIMILAR TO MINE, IT'S JUST SO AESTHETICALLY PLEASING!?!?!!?!? AND, CMOOOON, THE **SHAPES**!! THEY PAID ATTENTION TO THE SHAPE LANGUAGE/SHAPE THEORY!!?!?! AAAAAH IM IN LOVE
Oh 🥺 I had 0 feelings before about the graphic novel (as I too am often disappointed by any new Warriors news), but I teared up when you showed their design for Longtail. It's so much like the SSS design 🥹 Seeing how much love and care they're putting into everything...idk it was healing
When I first saw it was a remake, I was a little disappointed, since I liked having more original stories... but I've come around and am really excited about seeing this team retell the series. The art is just so cute and expressive!
Silverstream needs to be BIG and STRONG! Because of the river fish they would have a lot of protein better than the other Clans! I'd give my life if I was BUFF😻🙏
i'm so excited for the graphic novel, and i hope they can do the whole entire books, it means a lot to me because i always struggled to finish a long book.
Legitimately excited for this one, one of the artists illustrating it also created a webcomic called Snarlbear, which I used to read back in High School, so its cool to see them get the job. I think their style of drawing animals is so fun. This might actaully get me to buy a new warrior cats book in 2024???
