Purchased a Harvey table saw earlier this year and it performs flawlessly. You pointed out the two of the flaws I noticed as well. Still 100% happy with it!
*Just completed a big trim project on my house **MyBest.Tools** Performed very well. Also appreciate how easy it is to move, set up and store with the integrated stand. No more cutting wood on my knees.*
I get mine today! Pro tip: wait for a flash sale. They happen all the time. I originally ordered the regular top, but then they had a flash sale two days later and I requested the sales team to change my order, so now I'm getting the Titanium Nitride (the gold) top version for the same price!
I have the same saw and the same comments about it basically. But if you go and buy the extra cast right wing instead of just sticking with the plastic right wing that comes with it you can bolt the plastic one into the side of that cast right wing giving you a full 36" long table top to support your extra wide cuts. Don't forget to turn the dust collector on a few sessions without it on and you could clog the in-table dust hose.
Good Review man! I really like that coating idea. I am constantly putting paste wax on my sawstop cause if I don't it will definitely accumulate moisture and rust.
Ok, the T-6 aluminum, that refers to the heat treatment process, it's probably alloy 6061 which is aircraft grade, corrosion resistant material. The gold color of the top is most likely Titanium Nitride, this provides rust protection, lubricity and durability. It's used to coat drills and cutting tools. All saws should have that.
As far as the dust collection goes, hit the PVC aisle at your big box store and look for a plug or cap. Should be able to find something that fits exactly. Probably already suggested by viewer or figured out on your own given the age of the video, but thought I'd suggest it.
I contacted Harvey to see if they sold a regular dust port without the provisions for overhead dust collection but they don't. I removed the overhead dust collection hose from the dust port. A couple of wraps of electrical tape around the overhead dust collection stem that protrudes out from main dust port and put a 1 1/4" PVC cap on it and it fits snug. Hooked up the overhead dust collection hose to my Festool CT36 dust extractor and now the dust collection is SO MUCH BETTER!! Have to manually put on dust extractor after putting on main dust collector but that's minor compared to the overall efficiency of dust collection now. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and I'm in process of making your drill press table. Thanks for all the great videos.
I'm wondering if you would be willing to answer a question for me. I'm extremely interested in ordering one, and see that the specs say 13/16th max dado capacity. However, can you, or anyone else, tell me if when you put a 3/4 dado stack on this saw if the arbor is long enough to fully seat the nut with at least 1 thread showing? I'm running into plenty of saws that say they have the capacity, but that it isn't there when you actually put the set on... Thanks!
I have the Harvey Table saw as well. I have the standard cast iron top with the extra cast iron right wing and did the same as Creative Oddity Shop mentioned below by then adding the phenoic wing. I really, really like the saw. Thank you for this and all your great videos. Would love to hear your opinion on the Harvey M-36 miter gauge. It was not recommended at all by Wood Whisperer. I actuallly like it.
Lol, yeah pressure treated I prefer to just rip with a circular saw. The dust collection system needing a cap, just grab a plumbing cap or rubber fern-co that fits over it vs the duct tape.
Thanks for making this video. I think it would help if you said you recommend it. You imply that you do, but saying, "I would buy this saw again in a heartbeat," would be good to know. It sounds like you would. I've been thinking about upgrading to a SawStop, but this Harvey saw is probably less than half the price - and it looks to be a better saw. Yes, the safety feature of the SawStop is great, but a SawStop can still kick back a piece of wood and cause severe injury just like any other saw.
Thanks for the review. I've placed this saw on order and am really looking forward to it. I'm upgrading from a contractor saw with a standard 27 inch deep table top. With my blade raised about 2 inches, I currently have a distance of 13 inches from the front of the table to the front of the blade. I haven't been able to find a distance from the front of the table to the front of the blade the Harvey saw with it's 31.5 inch deep table. Can somebody here fill me in, please? I'm hoping for a lot more real estate in front of the Harvey blade.
I don't have the new Harvey saw yet, but I downloaded the manual from the Harvey web site. In the 'specifications' section, Page 2, they state that there are 18.9 inches from the front of the table to the center of the blade. Comparing that with my current 27 inch table top, it looks like the Harvey saw will have approximately 2 1/2 inches more in front of the blade and 2 inches more behind the blade. That's pretty nice!
I would like to see a video clip of ripping treated lumber in 2x2"s.. I wish someone would show that. Do you have to go easy on the feed rate when doing so?
Thanks for your video! It helps lots of people in their search!! Question: Since this miter guage has a 36” cross cut range, do you feel the sliding table attachment is really needed? Not sure you’ve hade personal experience but I thought I’d ask. Thanks!!
Was the gauge included or was it an upgrade? If it’s included, then one could rationalize that you’re taking $400 off the cost of the tablesaw. The wood whisperer did a miter gauge shoot-out several weeks ago and that one ranked one of the best. (duh)
Hello. I enjoy your videos. This may seem like an odd question but I am in the process of setting up my new Harvey table saw and although it's a 2hp unit, it came with what appears to me like 220 plug. Harvey says it's a Nema 6p 20 plug rated for 115 volts but I can't find a receptacle that will fit the plug that isn't wired for 240 volts. Can you'll me what your plug looks like? Does it have one horizontal and one vertical prong in addition to the ground or does it look like a regular 3 prong 115v plug? Thanks.
The plug on the saw comes standard 5P-20; not 6P-20. In other words, the motor is set up for 110V but requires a 20 amp outlet, thus the vertical/horizontal/ground format. Your circuit breaker should be a 20A breaker, of course. However, you can convert the motor and the switch to 220; just follow the directions in the manual or consult with your electrician. If you do that, you'll need a 6P-20 plug and outlet. You can cut the plug off the existing cable and install the 6P-20. It also has horizontal/vertical/ground format, but with a different layout than the 110 rated one. You'll need a 2-pole 20A breaker if you convert the motor and switch to 220. Hope this helps.
If pvd coating is really good just as you felt, why other companies doesn't make a saw that has a table top like Harvey did. Don't get me wrong, I like your saw and TiN coated top but will the coating last and prevent rust forever? Really? Well, I don't know...
It’s a good question and only time will tell. Not sure how long this type of top is on the market to test longevity. However, someone has to be the first to put out something great!
I have the same saw - with the standard cast iron top - and I love it. For the overhead dust collector arm, I found a PVC cap with 1-5/8" ID and it's an easy slip fit onto the arm. Stays in place on its own. Might even paint it black some day to match the dust arm.
Measure that pipe and I think you can get a rubber cap off Amazon. Really glad to see this review come up, I’m looking at the Harvey line haven’t decided on the 2 or 4 horsepower. I think it’s the best saw for the money out there right now. Enjoy! I’m running a old craftsman now so I am so ready for a new saw .hopefully by October.
I live in Pittsburgh and just built a house in Cookeville, Tn and am ordering a Harvey table saw soon. So I might go for the gold as you have. I purchase the Harvey Ambassador 14 band saw and it cane 2 months ago. Still rapped up in ox because it came to Pittsburgh now I need to take to Nashville and I don't want to uncrate it. Thanks for your advise. Maybe we can meet up some time. Tom
I'm looking for the blue Harvey cabinet saw myself. Less than $1000 for a cabinet saw sounds like a steal, but I think that's the direct from China price. The California reseller is doing a good job of intercepting web searches for it, but I just started, I'll find it. Nice saw, I definitely need a bigger table saw myself with more power.
Dust collectors aren’t designed for the small diameter of the overhead system. Get rid if the 4” port with take off on the back of the saw. Hook 4” (or larger if available) directly to the saw then hook up a shop vac to the overhead system and you’re golden. As an added bonus you simply dont run the shop vac when you dont need the overhead guard in there.
I just bought the 2HP model, can’t run 220v. The miter gauge is great, however, it should be for the price. I think it is great. I saw that, they need a cap. I am going to check to see if I can find a PVC cap at HD, will let you know. I got my 2HP on sale for $1,595, but no coating on the table. Keep an eye out for a sale price.
This saw is my #1 right now. Love this review. I saw a detail about the rear rail I never new. I have a tight fit tho and I can't find width and depth dimensions without the fence and dust collection. Nor can I find the table size in front of the blade at max height. Can you measure those when you have a minute? You'll be the first to publish them AFAIK. TIA
Mine arrived two days ago; ordered 30 Nov/delivered 28 Jan. Not bad for these weird times we're living thru. To answer your question, at max blade height, the distance from the nearest tooth to the front table edge is exactly 14 1/2 inches. Cheers.
@@PenaltyBoxWoodshop Im just kicking myself because I just purchased a dewalt for about 600 dollars thinking thats all I should put into a table saw when Ive purchased MacBooks etc for about what a nice one like this would have cost and thought nothing of it. And for them to include that nice of a miter gauge! Sure wish I had done more research.
