Barry Ward (Fine Gael) and Ronan Mullan (Independent NUI Senator) join Kieran Cuddihy on The Hard Shoulder to debate Ireland's new proposed hate speech legislation. #debate #hatespeech #ireland
Over 70% said no to this yet there just ignored. This group that’s been in power for over 12 years needs to go as there so detached from the very citizens that put them there to represent them in the first place and not to mention giving the Green Party a platform they would otherwise never have had who consistently push ideological agenda agendas against the will of the people. Elections are needed ASAP.
Hatred is a feeling a emotion it's in every one of us weather we want it or not. It's instinct. The government is intruducing this to prevent people from aiming their freedom of speech towards them
This is the start of the communism in Ireland. Look at definition of hatred how vague it is. Gardai will be more interested in using this like public order has been used for anything
It’s meant to open up our country to any one who feels oppressed and is looking for a free home and entitled to a job , and we ( the Irish) can’t object. I love the way the politicians say it’s will make our democracy stronger, while at the same time they give themselves more power to shut down opposition. Roll on 2025
The one thing his lovely definition of hatred within that text doesnt protect is the vast majority of Irish people. Protection for everyone else. You only have to look across the Irish sea to see how well the things happening so fast and so "enthusiastically" in Ireland are going to turn out.
I'm not the biggest fan of hate speech in general but this bill could be open to abuse and this can be dangerous so I hope that the President will refuse to sign this bill and this bill to the Irish Supreme Court.
If this is passed then the Dail is in trouble with the amount of hate speech that comes from all TDs in the Dail all the time😂 They fire hate speech at each other all the time. Especially sinn from , fine Gael and Gianna fail.
so it will be another file to the DPP. more files for gardai, there needs to be a 24 DDP office availability. this is done in england, this way with a simple phone call gardai can get directions to charge and what to charge with. this will massively cut down on paper work.
There's such thing as reporting online u don't need to throw ppl in jail 4 saying stuff all it does is puts a strangle on free speech feck all of this helps the public
While I have my reservations about the extent and means and manner this al gets enforced in the hypothetical and practical, there's still nothing more I'd want more to hear about the rabid right wing around the world (I realize this is only in Ireland) receiving a "chill effect" to motivate them off of their counter cultural rampage. They know when they shouldn't be saying things and in the manner they shouldn't be saying things. Putting the state's weight behind that social and erstwhile pedal problem is probably a better idea than not.
