An unusual design. In need of some TLC but still loads of character. Facebook: / tommy.wylie.18 If you want to support this channel: www.paypal.me/TommyWylie
I've seen one other video of one of these on RU-vid and found the construction quite fascinating. It reminds me of the same kind of construction as those Seth Thomas beehive clocks with the Sonora chime movements in them. I assume this must have been New Haven's interpretation of that same kind of mechanical amalgamation brought about by Seth Thomas, unless this setup was patented by New Haven before ST started using Sonora movements. I don't think I've seen Sonora movements with cathedral gongs, only ever chime rods or bells. I much prefer the bells. Thanks for sharing, and I hope you can get the chiming mechanism operating nicely in the future. It looks like quite a task.
Chime fly will need adjustment that's why it sounds sluggish. Chime sounds good on coil gong set though... hour strike train picks up immediately afterwards which is a bit unusual! Lovely clock. Thank you very much.
WoW1 I thought it was a Winterhalder & Hoffmier 4 coil westminster chime. This might be a cheaper alternative to that. Although, I imagine this model is rare....
Last night I squeezed the hammer pads very lightly and it has made them softer. It sounds better now, but I still need to tune gong 1 and ultrasonically clean the movement.
