This generator has only 18 hours on it, stalls out when it feels like it and doesn't provide the needed power. Turns out the generator MUST be off the floor.
One of the biggest problems with generators is bad fuel or not draining the carb before storage. Putting Stabil in the gas and using the drain plug on the carb that Honda provides will solve a lot of problems. I have the EU6500 for home backup and it often sits for a year before starting and never misses a beat. As superb as this expensive generator is, it won't run on crappy gas
Proactively preparing for Hurricanes after seeing what happen in Texas. My EU6500 saved the day during a past hurricane - but started it today and it started to surge/pulse when running. Never really had to work on it so not sure how to get at the carb to spray with gummout. Always made sure to drain the gas, but I suppose some was still in the bowl after running it with the fuel valve off. Found a way to spray by opening the intake case at the choke end of the carb. -- sprayed and ran and sprayed and ran and no luck. Found that it I block the front grill like others suggested the unit ran smooth - but after researching that indicated it was fuel starved. So long story short what I did was take the carb out and cleaned the bowl and the main nozzle which ended up being clogged as anything. The small rubber gasket (one outside and one inside) on the bowl on the bowl drain was disintegrated replaced with #7 washer found in the pluming isle of home depot. Starting out I thought this would be a big project - but it really wasn't bad - take the air intake and cleaner apparatus out first and things become clear - the carb slides right off the bolts. Also watch a video on how to clear the main nozzle and tube and you'll find its not too bad. Unit works great now - but I will be purchasing a spare carb, gaskets and so forth just to have. Also will always now use seafoam and will drain the bowl every once in a while.
Another thing I just noticed is that you have the Generator on the floor. In the manual it says not to run it without the wheel kit on because it needs to be up off the floor for airflow. That could also explain why it runs than shuts down.
John Fichtner No it doesn’t but neither does needing to put the battery cover on it to stop it from surging just like it was doing in this video. There are a couple of videos of people showing this same problem and the fix ... and many comments saying “thank you.” Airflow seems to be “a thing” with these generators.
@@JohnFichtner I have the same generator and the battery has been dead for years but you have to leave it in or it surges... I don`t replace it because it starts on the first pull every time... I run it every 3 months and put a load on it ... never had 1 problem in 11 years
mine is doing exactly the same thing I put in storage for 9 months after draining all fuel put fresh fuel in and started running like this I have the wheel kit on it please tell the fix
not sure what this video is showing me other than a bad generator? mine does this when it is warmed up and eventually stalls. I know that covers off will cause this as well, but that wasnt the issue in my case. still searching for the answer.
Sounds like bad gas. I have the same exact generator. Mine did the same one night, after I refilled it . I was around the same hour mark too when it started to act up. I used sea foam in it now and I have 34 hours on it with no problems.
something I found today is when I changed oil massive improvement but still a little rough when I shut side door but if I leave side door open it runs fine checked air filter and there is a ton of fine black sout in it guess it's time to order new filter. I believe issue was air filter and oil change have over 600+ hours on generator
drain the float bowl. water will collect in the bottom of the bowl and the float does not know the difference in gas or water. i live in a humid area and only use ethanol free gas and still will get a little water from time to time, this always fixes that surging in all my small 4 stroke engines.
Sounds like the engine has bad gas in it? I’m not a small engine mechanic but that’s my guess? What’s that expression? An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure? I own a Honda EU 7000 IS. I bought it brand new from a mom & bob retailer last year. I never buy from big box stores. Service is what your buying not what your buying. I use Marine grade Stabil with Star Tron fuel enzyme in all my power equipment. Together I have never had a problem with my fuel in ten years. However that being said, I never keep my fuel longer than 6 months because modern fuel turns to crap in a year. Unless you invest in ethanol free fuel? Try running new gas after siphoning out as much as the crap gas & try running it? The other option is bring it in for service? I prefer to let the professionals repair my equipment. I like keeping my stuff in tip top condition!
I really appreciate you posting this, but if everyone could spend a bit of time summarizing and consolidating so 10,000 viewers don't have to watch everyone walk between items in silence. Try talking about what you're doing, and why, and what you've learned and what we're about to see - please. If the average user is trying to get info on what you've investigated, there's no way we can watch all that footage and actually get any useful information, and use it. The title of your video says "problem solved". I've invested 2:10 into watching this out of 3:26, and you're just now saying "that doesn't sound normal" and "i guess i gotta let it warm up." Did you actually solve the problem? Did you ever define the problem? Is the next video that says "i've solve the problem but won't show you until you dump 20 minutes into watching my generator do nothing" going to be an enormous waste of time? Maybe you're a marketing major or something. Dear god no. I watched your whole video of a poorly running generator and you NEVER PROVIDE THE SOLUTION! You Bastard! Why did you make a freaking video that contains literally NOTHING, then type in "lift it off the floor for some unknown reason"? JFCoaS! WHY DOES LIFTING IT OFF THE FLOOR MATTER?!
The problem was that the generator was on the floor. I put it on a couple 2x4s and it runs great now. Will install the wheel kit shortly. Thanks all for your advice!
