This scanner uses a reskinned version of the Launch Software like Thinktool and Topdon. If you ask how I know. I have a Launch Pros3+ that I got for 750 during a sale which has topology included. Anyways the software version for GM on my tool is 49.50 which was the same as this tool the Chrysler was also the same. In addition, the interfaces are similar in different menus and options.
Unlikely that you would damage your vehicle if you had to pull the VCI out when trying to read or clear codes or even operate the bi-directional controls. You are not doing anything in the memory that is not overwritable by the computer. The only time you should ever worry when something locks up is if you are updating any firmware which would be when you are programming a module. Which this tool does not do.
I was thinking about the thinktool pros I believe now after using the ICON it would have been a better choice and it’s similar in price point I definitely don’t like the launch Scanners based off the reviews I have seen about the “mall” and how they nickel and dime you for features that would otherwise be included in a normal tool like why do I have to pay an extra $130 a year for tire reset?
The icon scan tool has caught my attention and after people use it for a while I might buy one if the results seem good. $900 for a solid scan tool is a pretty good deal especially if you can use the 25% coupons that come around every now and then. I feel like the scan tool subscriptions are a way to screw the techs. They know we need them so they set the price at whatever they want because they know that we will pay it. Kinda like pharmaceutical companies and prescriptions prices.
GREAT VIDEO ,,, JUST ORDERED A GLOBAL VERSION AUTEL KM100 . WELL TRY AND SEE IF I CAN SETUP AN AUTOAUTH ACCOUNT TO WORK WITH IT . WAS USING A FRIEND OWN AT THE DEALERSHIP WERE I WORK TODAY AND THE TOOL IS VERY IMPRESSIVE . THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME OUT TO SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE AND LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT ONE .🙏👍👍👍
I just bought the t8 for my new shop and testing out at my current shop and it holds its own vs anything in the shop minus having a lab scope. The interface may not be as user freindly as a snap on d10 which is my other scanner but for the price and lab scope aside it does pretty much the same thing.
every scanner has its place... The T8 is fine. HFT is fixing stuff as it gets reported although I don't believe the topology view is anywhere in sight, I sure hope they fix the live data issue. currently I can't effectively take it on a test drive and scroll through all the PIDs while I'm driving. I need to be able to see only the ones I select that can fit on the screen that's the only issue i'm currently having with it. The D10 is awesome and so far I like it. I have found that no one scanner will do it all which like most guys that work on stuff you end up with 4 or more scan tools.
The problem with all the scan tools except for snapon is, the software is a third party provider. Don't be so concerned with purchase price, check out the on going subscription costs. And what features are removed if you don't update.
Great video!! I have an autel mp 808. It came with two years free updates. It has full bi directional and can access 2024 Chrysler products. My subscription ends this year so I will either be forced to pay it or say goodbye to the bi directional control. Cheers 🇨🇦
Trying to decide on buying one for a video myself. Came here to see your comparison. After skipping throughout the video I did not see what I was after although I appreciate your time to create the video. Unsolicited advice- I say, write a script. Plan your shots. Cut out anything unnecessary. Subscribe and watch film booth and creator booth. Your subscriptions don’t match the amount of videos you are pumping out. RU-vid needs people like you. I can see you going far, work on thumbnails and editing and scripting. I wish you the best for your channel. Lou
I agree. He has RU-vid monetizing potential. Broadcast quality voice, good command of popular lingo, doesn't say too many ah’s and ugh’s, expresses the upsides and downsides of his real-time experience in a moderated way, etc. Practice makes perfect. Grow your fan base and don't burn yourself out.
Yeah that part where it said download file is where it was trying to download from autoauth secure gateway server once u find way to register it will download fairly quickly then take u to login autoauth page
HI! I was debating on purchasing an Autel or T8, can the Autel still work with anything before the update or does it completely shut down? It has been a couple of months. Has Icon been registered with FCA's Autoauth? Any feedback would be great! Do you have any other suggestions for scanners?
I agree with you that it should work for all vehicles support by the current update on the device. Also agree the fact that it needs internet connection to do anything. If it doesn't have a way to function without internet it doesn't seem worth it for someone who doesn't want to pay for the subscription. Did you have to pay for a subscription up front for this or were you able to do the initial update without it?
the ICON, it comes with the preloaded subscription like all scanners that Ive ever owned, a one year subscription for updates etc. The Autel came with two years on the one I got. The ICON won't auto VIN scan without internet and current subscription but you can still use the tool if you manually input VIN but to me that's crappy auto vin is a very basic feature, my Autel is crappy on Chrysler FCA vehicles because they won't let you get to the AutoAuth login without the update so I can't even scan a vehicle with it outside active subscription.
Okay this might be a decent option for the hobbyist if it has decent functionality without continuing the subscription. For me, not being an auto tech, hundreds of dollars a year for a subscription isn't worth it for something I use once in a while. I have always wanted a higher end obd scanners with bi directional functions but could stomach the cost. This might be a decent option if they fix some of the issues that you have pointed out should be built into the software. Also the worry about the scanner locking up and unplugging it probably wouldn't brick modules. It's when you are flashing modules and loosing connection that the modules go belly up.
@@Stringmaster413 fyi "loosing" isn't even a word. If my belt is “loose” (rhymes with moose) I could “lose” (rhymes with choose and use) my pants! Maybe I am “losing” (rhymes with cruising) it?
@@rvtechpro you mentioned you have an im508 right? Why didn't you use the diagnostic side of that tool on the vehicle and why isn't it listed in your auto auth account?
DO YOU HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH HYUNDAI SMARTRA MODULES ,,, I THINK THERE THE IMMO MODULE FOR THE HYUNDAI CARS . IS THERE ANY WAY OF DEALING WITH THEM WHEN THEY GIVE YOU A CODE OF INVALID ON AN IMMO SCAN OR MUST IT BE REPLACED ???????????????
I think when it’s locking up on loading, your forgetting to put the key in “run”. Noticed it twice, maybe I’m wrong but I noticed the one time you did the car chimes where going off. Not the open door chum, the run chim
take a job as a PDI technician at your local RV dealership as a dealer tech you will get the training and experience you need to go independently latter in life and make six figures easily.
from my perspective your may differ there are a few reasons that would be a bad idea, 1. the hardware is outdated. 2. Features such as ADAS still is non existent in the 5 year old Autel. 3. It would actually cost more to update the current scanner because the update is for 1 year and the new ICON scanner comes with 2 years of subscription so that would be $1200 for the MP808TS to compare to the ICON. Besides all of that I like new things.
yeah that's what that other DLC harness is for that I did not know about I looked on the website : Comprehensive Compatibility Including OBDII, FCA Secure Gateway, DoIP, CAN FD, and ADAS
having 3 autel scan tools all dead by different means like ms906 went buggy so i restored to factory just to wipe tablet??? BT906 an upgrade to lose cord yet only works if vci is plugged into tablet ,, the ts508 is an error machine!!! autel warranty is garbage just a regurgitation of subscription priority ,, but why would you invest more in what was under their socalled sub warranty never fixed or addressed!!! Autel is a decent scan tool with built in obsolesence features for exrta cost to cunsumer!!! between their failed warrant and proprietary data theft lawsuit you have a sort of rebranding of OTOFIX emerging !!!!! becareful of any computer that wipes useability on restore to factory!!!!!!!!!!!!
Restore to good NAND backup. I’ve never had a problem with any Autel’s and at my old shop we used them there as the main tool still running strong. After updating each year and while the tool is working well create a NAND backup file after that is made that is your restore file I personally would never try to take an older scan tool back to unsupported system software seems like I would be asking for trouble instead restoring to last known working NAND is a better option in my opinion thanks for watching bro

n what planet does a restore function wipe usability? do you need pictures of tool settings? restore a pc/laptop/tablet/phone/ipod/ipad etc all use the funtion correctly yet Autel wipes??
Autel dose not make tablets Autel is not a tablets OS, its just one of many apps that run on your android tablet the hardware simply facilitated the OS and the OS facilitates the individual software application the Autel application is not the hardware OS so I really don't see how in your example of "restore a pc/laptop/tablet/phone/ipod/ipad etc all use the funtion correctly yet Autel wipes?" Autel's software dose not have that level of access it's just an app running on android OS which is the operating system that directly interfaces with the hardware (tablet) so back up your "app data" and uninstall and reinstall the app "not" the OS which naturally has the drivers that facilitate hardware functionality like your VCI serial ports, touch screen ect. Ive never had a problem but here again I back up my NAND (app data) but anyway; whatever, to each there own bro.@@badwabbit1973
