There is a setting that allows the head unit to go into a standby mode for up to like 2 hours. So say you shut off your car, come back to it between a minute or up to 2 hours, it will fast boot because it never actually shut down all the way during that time. I have mine set to 2 hours, it's nice if I go into a store or something I don't have to wait for a long boot up when I come back out and start the car, it just starts right up.
I wish they made one for the 5th gen Camaro, but with the buttons on both sides.. like on the 8" VW model.. I like the more centered look, than with the buttons on one side. I just may get the 8" VW model for my 5th gen Camaro and do some fabrication to make it work.. These radio's are nice!
I have this exact same unit and this review is *spot-on* with what this unit can do. If your phone has a *Personal Hotspot* option and your phone's carrier supports it, you can connect this unit to your phones WiFi to always have an Internet connection. Just be careful about using up your data plan as streaming video's and music takes A LOT of data. Sound quality (to me) isn't that good but is acceptable.

Good review, I have been looking forward to this release! I'm glad to see the Nova launcher works on it, I actually had some doubts to if it would or not.
Great to see a quality review for this product. It looks pretty nice and at a very reasonable price. The boot time I don't think is ideal, but is tolerable. I would like to know though, how soon after starting the car would a backup camera installed on this device start working? Do you have to wait for it to fully boot up? I saw a video that someone posted of an Avin unit he installed and mentioned that the backup camera comes up within just a few seconds of first starting the car before it was finished booting up. I hadn't thought of that and realized that would be annoying if you had to wait 40 seconds for it to work.
Oh certainly not, while booting if you should place the vehicle in reverse the display will show what's behind even if it's like 2 seconds into the boot process.
Recarro, nice video Brother. I like the "volume lowering" option, that would be very helpful for me. If you wanted full time internet access you could use a wifi box I would imagine. All in all a nice head unit option. Keep up the great videos.

That volume lowering caught me off guard really. I would be listening some old school dancehall at high volume, went out for a while, came back and always wondered: " Did I turn this down before heading out?" ForInternet I use a WiMAX box I installed. LTE is now available, so I'll definitely see what the hotspot feature and a mobile device can bring and do a video if needed.
radio was great for the 4 months that it worked. yesterday lost function of all front buttons ,audio and unit wont turn off when key is removed. loved the radio but apparently Chinese Engineering is still low quality.

is there an option to make it sleep longer before shutting it totally off? I deliver pizza, and it would be really tedious to wait 30+ seconds every time I start my car, itd be much better for me if you could set it to sleep for like 1 hour before shutting down

First of all great informative video !! You mentioned you would show us how to install kodi, still waiting. Did you fit a reversing camera to your 2nd Gen Honda CRV, if so where do you take the power from ?
Arthur Pendragon thanks man, it was my pleasure to do the video. I haven't installed a reverse cam as yet. The cable got damaged by the installer. I'll be receiving a new radio soon, the one with 2GB ram so I'll make every effort to do as many videos as possible and hopefully show a reverse cam setup as well as a dash cam to show that feature as well.
Definitely... All that's required is going into the setting, then factory settings, the password is 126 when prompted then there's an option at the top for Car Logo. A wide range of options will be there for different make cars and you can upload you own PNG as well.

Thanks Man... I installed the most current version of ShowBox. Any version worked for me. As it relates to installation, I didn't do it myself I had a professional help with the installation, wasn't very difficult for him either.

+Suren Badalyan the frame wouldn't fit based on my vehicle type. Also, my steering had no buttons but you have the option to connect to the steering wheel buttons.
Good detailed review. One thing is missing, Bluetooth functionality. Does it have a MUTE function while in a call? I have a similar unit and I am amazed to see there is no muting function......Can you test it on your unit, but make sure it does mute your mic, b/c mine is transferring the whole call (uplink/downlink) to the cell phone instead.
Bebe Vole well... I think you should be able to mute by doing a quick press of the power button. And while connected to Bluetooth you should be able to use your phone to control the mute on/off feature.
James - Thanks for the quick reply. I was talking about microphone MUTE not speakers, something that is very useful to me when I am in a conf call and not actively talking and I don't want to be heard or add noise to the bridge. Using the Phone was a known option but will defeat the purpose of the whole hands-free idea since I have to fiddle with the phone. Want something quick on-screen as any voice app known to man on this planet has except this unit. Can't believe they built a beast with so many options but they forget to add this basic function which was invented probably in the same time when Graham Bell invented the phone..ha ha. BTW, a quick way to mute the speakers is to long press on the speaker icon on the top right corner.
so james i have another question for you have you checked the preamps. their is vids about how this headunits can spike volt and can distort the signal going to your amps. do they have crossovers so you can adjust from your headunits because one of my amps doesnt have a crossover or is it basic eq?

I brought it to a shop when I had the 4.4 version. The installers did the wiring, seemed pretty simple though. With this 5.1 I just unplugged the previous model n plugged this up. Thanks btw.
+Elegant Elliott not sure if I had replied to this already but yes you are able to pair your mobile device with the radio. You can stream music as well as use for phone conversations.
Great video, can I install this unit in a 2011 F150? will I need additional parts for steering wheel controls, factory back up cam in rearview mirror, antenna, and sub woofer?
+DCITM Music great that you asked, on the rear end of the unit are inputs for a reverse camera, as well as an input for the subwoofer, the connections also accepts the ability to have your steering wheel controls working. There was a video I did before this one that shows what's on the rear, you could check it out. hi james i got the same radio and i cant figure out how to set up the canbus in the settings there is very little instructions on the set up. i got a 2005 nissan pathfinder, the last question are you going to install a back up camara for the radio.
In my Chevy Cruze.... i wired my radar up to the dome light circuit area... i found a wire that becomes hot as soon as you unlock the doors and stays hot 10 minutes after you leave the car. if I install one of these in my vehicle, i am going to grab that circuit. Why? Because the radio would start booting from the moment I hit the unlock button. That way by the time I am in the vehicle, put seatbelt on, start, etc... Radio will be booted.

love the videos. just have 2 questions before I buy one of these head units. does the head unit limit the size SD card you can use? And the second one is does it block watching videos as your driving? If it does block viewing videos while driving is there a work around for it?
+Aaron Davis from. Memory I think I will accept up to 128GB. You can watch a video while driving. There's an option in settings to allow that or you can bypass when connecting the cables.
Have you tried attaching a multi-disc CD changer to this unit? I see the head unit doesn't accept discs,so it would be nice to still have an option. Your videos are quite helpful, thanks!
gatorgrabber2003 oh thanks for the feedback on the video man. Appreciate it. Disc well... I think that Joying has versions that carry CD/DVD drives however I opted for this one coz I prefer going with the USB or SD card slot for media. But you could get one with a drive if you need.

cruzernator hey wassup. Indeed, you can pair your smartphone to the radio via Bluetooth. As it relates to mic there's one built in on the unit as well as an external that's shipped with the device. You'll see this in my unboxing video - link in the description.
Hey Recaro! My question is if you are out and about driving is this head unit reliant on the cellular data from your phone to work apps like spotify and pandora and youtube etc.... im guessing the maps apps will work with the gps antenna ??
Yes it is.. You will need a connection to the Internet to use apps as those. The solution I use is either hotspot via my mobile phone or travel with a mobile Router (WiMAX or HSPA+ at this time based on where I'm at).
Thanks for the review, so how does this work with your phone? Say you are not near wifi, can you connect it to your phone somehow and use your phone's data connection?
You're most welcome... 1. You may pair with your phone via Bluetooth. 2. You can also use your phone's data connection for wireless connectivity (You're on point with this one).

Well, it looks the same, I've noticed on the joying site that there is three with different prices. Mate's is the JY-UL135N2. First two boots after turning the ignition on I thought, nah this is crap, takes too long to boot. After third ignition turn it turned on straightaway. Car was also left for a few hours, went back to the car and it turned on straight away. It's suppose to go into a suspended mode so it uses low power, it's not meant to be fully turned off I think.

Oh cool, no prob.... You get the full version of Android 5.1.1 on this system. So most apps that you're used to using on your smartphone or Android Tab can be used on this in a similar sense.

gerardo hernandez yes you are able to sync with your mobile device via Bluetooth. The radio will power off when the keys are removed. If the engine in only switched off but the keys are in, it will still be active.

For me it's solid... not shaking. But for persons with large hands, it might be a problem.. Gonna see if I can ask some folks to use it and hear their thoughts. It doesn't just roll freely though, as it moves the level up or down you feel the stops in ur fingers
You do need Internet access to use these apps. If you're not in a Wi-Fi zone then no you won't. However, you can use the hotspot feature via your smartphone to provide Wi-Fi then connect this radio.
+lavordm it's in settings, once you're there you should see an option that asks for a password. The password is 126, you'll then have the opportunity to change the logo to match ur vehicle.
