RM is not Australian or British, he's Korean. But he is fluent in English, so he typically speaks the most in interviews. That was at least until some of the bigger shows like Jimmy Fallon started including subtitles, allowing BTS to answer in Korean. They have been doing that more in recent years, especially since BTS started entering military service, so the members that weren't serving started focusing on their solo projects in the mean time. And of course the members are studying English and some of them like Jungkook are able to answer easier questions, but I honestly like the fact that they have been able to speak Korean on American TV. It takes off some of the pressure that has been put on RM. Btw, Idol is BTS' response to people saying they have become westernized and forgot their roots (despite the fact that at that time they didn't have a single English song). That's why they're saying they love themselves. There's a lot of references to Korean culture in the video.

@peachysaiyan If you wanna dig deeper, check out "Idol explained by a Korean " by DKDKTV. That channel has a lot of other explanation videos that explain culture references, etc in their songs because a lot can get lost in translations. Not to mention verses from the rap line that has multiple layers in itself.

RM is my bias. He’s Korean. Also Main Rapper. Unlike other groups, RM comes from the hip-hop underground, was inspired by Nas and other American rappers and started writing song lyrics at 11 years old. He is brilliant (148 IQ), writes genius and profound lyrics. He is the Leader because he was signed as the first member of BTS, and the hip-hop group (debut BTS) was formed around him. He is a fabulous orator in Korean, Japanese and English. He gave a wonderful speech at the UN which is still quoted at commencement speeches. He takes good care of his members, faced a lot of hate when he gave up the underground hip-hop scene to become an idol. He also faced hate for not meeting Korean beauty standards and for not coming from one of the Big 3 companies. BTS’s story is about survival - from the tricks of the Big 3, disdain from older groups, fear from the Korean music industry and now the American music industry bc they rose without these industries’ power, money, and push (so no profit for the industry).

You should watch an explanation video of the MV - it is packed with meaningful references and imagery! This MV is answering all the criticism they received at that time. It was an extremely hard period for them with the pressure of becoming global artists and the general hardcore hate they have received since their pre-debut days and is still going on as of today. They only pulled through because of each other's support and ARMY. I absolutely love Idol now though, you should check out their performance of it at the MMA. Its a fantastic intro to what BTS are like live.
BTS did performed at VMAs but with dynamite. They also performed at AMA's, BBMAs and Grammys. All of them are in the military at the moment except the oldest member, Jin. He just completed his service last month. He's in France at the moment since he'll be one of the torch bearer at the Olympics this year. Bugs bunny shirt guy, j-hope will come out from the military this October. He's one of the rapper and BTS' dance leader. The rest of the member will complete their military service by June2025. Even they are in the military, they still continue to release contents for their fans (pre recorded). You can always find Jungkook in the middle, he's official center. If you want something to tone down, try fake love or black swan. Their fake love performance at 2018 BBMAs is iconic😅☺. This song is intense, as others have mentioned it’s an answer to the criticism they had gotten at the time and still get. They usually don’t use green screen in this video they have done that a lot, more as a way to show that they can but don’t feel the need for it. When they have performed this live they have made the artists area shake and move in time with the music, there’s fancams of it happening on GDA (Golden Disc Awards)2018-2019, there you can see the other artists reaction to it happening. It have also made the stage starting to collapse when they performed it at a concert, the staff was holding it up so they could finish the song, the group was told right after that that they had to change the last songs and not dance because of the risks of a collapse, this was filmed for one of their behind the scenes documentary for their concert, that is how we know it has happened. They chose to show it instead of cutting it out. First time I saw it I didn’t know what was happening and it’s hard to watch and proses. If you want to watch a live performance of this song a suggestion is the MMA (Melon Music Awards) 2018, the other two songs they performed was Fake Love and Airplane pt.2. The idol performance was the first time a kpop artists got a korean culture award for the performance of the fan dance, Jimin did a post there he showed the award as a thank you to the fans. Jimin did a program there he chatted with some fans and there one of them mentioned Felix name and he did do the head movement for Maniac, Bangchan later reacted to that and mentioned how surprised he was, that they know about them. Even as he mentioned not by name but he knows JK. Take in what order you feel like to watch their videos and performance or any of the other shows they have done. Their debut song is No More Dreams and is written by RM at the time of debut he was called Rap Monster, he later change it to reflect his growth.
They performed this live at an Asian awards show and the venue was physically rocked with the vibration from the group and backup dancers doing the choreography. Lee Know was a backup dancer of theirs at one point.

Also -- to really get to know the members, maybe watch Taylor Mari's guide to BTS. It's the most up to date and viewer-friendly (from 2022 -- so there are two years worth of updates missing, mostly member solos and military info). It outlines a bit of their history, accomplishments to that point, and then some info about individual members. But it honestly takes about twenty different "about them" videos to really get the whole scope and see their personal and group evolutions. Jungkook is your bias, so you might be interested to hear that he started as a 13 year old trainee and debuted when he was only 15. (In Korea, they often refer to themselves as being 1-2 years older than they are. It's due to the way they calculate age in Korea.) He was incredibly shy and homesick, incredibly hard on himself, and used to wait until everyone left the showers before he would go in. He is known as the original Golden Maknae -- a nickname given to him by RM because of his natural talents that extend beyond entertainment skills. It's a term you now hear used in other groups for their beloved maknaes.
They performed this on a couple of American chat shows and absolutely stunning performances for MMA 2018 and MAMA 2018. They are even better live than on studio versions. Idol was their response to all the haters for things like they are too Korean, too Westernised, too many of them, too much green screen, not real rappers cos they are Idols. It is not them saying they love themselves too much, it is saying that they don't care anymore about haters because they are going to do them.

It was definitely a bit of an off choice for the first song, but it's all good 😂. If you want something more toned down, I would say maybe Black Swan. That one is a lot about lyrics and it's an amazing song. Btw, BTS and an entire album series called Love Yourself. It was a huge era for them. BTS are all about lyrics and messages. They became as big as they are, because they started as a voice for youth, talking about topics that were taboo in Korea, like mental health.

i know im late to this but just some context for the question you had about the military stuff. 6/7 members are currently serving right now and Jin, the oldest member, was just discharged a little more than a month ago. all able bodied korean men are required to serve for 1.5 years ish (depends on the person but 1.5 is average) in the korean military. jhope will be out in october of this year, and then after that will be rm and taehyung (i cant remember which comes first sorryyy), and then jimin and jk will be out on the same day/same time because they enlisted as companion soldiers and then suga will be last. all five of these last members will be discharged in june of 2025. after that, they will reunite as a group. edit : also dynamite hasnt been out for 11 years, it was released in 2020 😅
