Thanks for the memories. I was born and grew up in Kingston. So its a pleasure to see all of this. I was a kid at primary school when the benab and the first Pegasus was built so you can imagine the history of Kingston that l know.
A coat of paint takes a real beating from the tropical sun and the salt air around there. Thanks for the drone views. I'm happy to note some solar panels on roofs here and there. Hopefully it's a trend that takes off during the building boom while all that oil money is being thrown around. 31:45 The word is groyne (groin to Americans) and it's indeed another term for breakwater or jetty. Only the pre-internet generation would recall the original Bettencourt's ice cream window along Water Street plus original Demico House ice cream cones and hot dogs by Stabroek. Glad to see families enjoying the public spaces in safety. The variety of foods from all the cultures is simply astounding. Although I would never shame anyone for their "Creole" speech in their own home, I agree that speaking standard English should be promoted because it's tied to success in business and education opportunities at home and abroad.👍🏼
Thanks Chandani for another amazing video! I live in Toronto Canada for over 45 years and look forward to your videos. Your contents are different and unique. Keep up the good work.
Chandani, your videos are very entertaining and inspiring. After thirty plus years of not visiting Guyana. I am inspired to come once again back to Guyana. God bless you and your family.
Very well put together video of that particular area of GT, amazing improvement with colorful arrangements that's artistic and pleasurable to the senses, hopefully the forces of destruction, chaos and ugliness will not return to stop the progress, and Georgetown will once again be become the Garden City of of the region.
This is a lovely video, Chandani. Every other Utubers so the or own unique bits but yours is more coverage and I like how younengaged with the vendors. Blessed are those who can build a nation for the benefits of the people; Aside the Government'efforts , we as citizens have all right to respect our communities as much as our homes. And to also treat the land with respect. ...
Thank you for addressing the language issue. It was well stated. I live in U.S and many foreigner’s don’t know unless you’re are Caribbean that Guyana is the only English speaking country located in South America with a Caribbean culture.
Beautiful! Please Guyanese keep the place clean. Very organized area with prices listed on menu. Maybe, they can update the band stand and make it more modernized.
Love your tour of the Kingston area of Georgetown. The area looks amazing. I hope the beautification continues along the sea wall towards the Kitty Roundabout.
Chandani, you make the best videos coming out of Guyana. Like how you do your research before showing the video. Detailed and professional. We are hooked to your channel. Your interaction with the people is number one. May God continue to bless you and your family and may your channel keep growing. Stay safe.
Hey I just started watching your videos, very good job , hello from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦 I’m a born Guyanese so I appreciate the effort you put into your work 👍🏾
Nice video as usual.....you're giving us a close up view of all the details we need to know. You take the time to give us some historical data as well. White pudding featured in your video is a nice surprise, since I never heard of it before. Good job.....your style of making these close up videos should be rewarded by the Tourist board. Makes Guyana look good!
The Kingston seawall really transformed, compared to my past 1998 year I visited. Look forward to visit in near future I've seen many nice videos of places in Guyana. Yes, Chandni so true Guyana is an English speaking Country yet many people speak in creole..
I see nothing wrong in speaking creole with my fellow Guyanese. All nations have their own languages / dialects with which they use to communicate with their natives. I am sure that non- Guyanese will assume or interpret our local dialect as a different language, as they wouldn’t understand anything we say. But generally speaking, we all speak proper English as necessary.
Hi Chandani.....Lovely video.....the area was once called Fort Groyne....now I do not know if the word groyne means jetty......thank you for all the delightful videos.....where the Pegasus is there was a pond where I would go to catch butterflies....there was also a swimming pool there.....it appears the pool house is now refurbished .....anyway....love the video....
Hello from Toronto ...another fantastic video of "the old country"! :) So Chandani I'm curious about something. When I left almost forty years ago the currency was a lot different ... I noticed that your black pudding was 1,000 guy dollars, so how does the general population go around shopping over there? I mean you must have to walk around with bags of cash ... or is there really high note denominations? When I left the highest note denomination was the $100 bill but that was rarely carried around ... mostly twenties was used. With the prices of things so high now dollar wise I was just curious. (or do you just use cards (debit/credit) mainly? BTW, Guyana looks like a completely different country now to when I left in the 80's! There was not one single "mall" in the country .. the biggest hotels were Pegasus (the old one obviously) and Tower hotel. The sea wall was just "the actual wall" and none of the infrastructure that around there now was there. It actually looks like "a place to see in Guyana" now! Can't wait to come back for a visit in the next three years of so.
Thank you for watching and sharing. So, our highest note denomination is G$5,000 and we also have a G$2,000 note. So, the 5,000 dollar note can be broken down into 5 one thousand dollars, then that into $500s then that into G$100s and that into G$20s and the rest of it would be coins - $10s and $5s. As for the Credit / Debit Card..they are places you can use Cards, but for the Seawall as I was showing you, Cash would be necessary... There isn't any provision for Cards (Credit /Debit) at small snacketts and shops. But in the Malls, and certain Hotels and Restaurants (the high end ones) would use Card. Also, Tower Hotel is still there, but that's just one of many. Hope this helps in some way 😊
The unresolved : an international person being denied rights in you es ay while being Britush. People must talk about problems an violations. From the BP, KP, the roads, the eu. All where ever. We can't ask for your help. We cnt say xyz in going in them freedom charters yet we can't say in Queen Charlotte's namesake they are pooping on someone unimportant. What is the impact. Equal to the Spaniards not being called a nation in the UK. What could a parliament do or a monarch for someone unnamed, in a territory they can't influence. I don't know. How about tell them loyals not to betray themselves. Maybe invent something only for England, also the EU. Then hope it's not copy catted here in the West. Something how those yellow poles also those emergency stickers. No. A help request will be submitted. As is such it is permissioned by my heritage also nationality of generational toil an effects. Now there is a document. Its only that, the allowable concept of saying whatever one wants (allowed) is discontinued n they are prosecuting if one is from England heritage then makes fun of cahps that over step. So. The thing is, help is needed also Im sure them people come from the west n pretend they dont do that in any place. No. We need to chess board this thing as the west grows in population n interacts with the world. Dont entrust in the Heads of poisonous apple trees or the poision gets on the skin.
