Today in the workshop Ben talks you through a new design which has been on the bench for a long time: a kitchen knife for cooking wild and at home in the kitchen. The design is coming to life and the working prototype is cutting well. Hoping to release this product soon!

Gday Ben and Lois. Knife looks good. You have some great choices for the handle. Another beautiful product from your workshop. Hope you are both well. Take care. Regards Andrew 🦘🦘👍😁

Speaking as a chef myself (25yrs and counting!), I completely agree with thewildonions. The heel height could be deeper. One of my pet hates is dragging my knuckles on the board when you're chopping a lot. I think the blade could curve more towards the tip from the middle? Increase the rocker? It looks like it rolls well. I'm concerned about the strength of a rat tail tang, which also might put the balance off, but that could be compensated by a heavy handle such as the antler. Personally one of my favourite shapes is the Robert Welch knives. (which aren't very deep at the heel) but this is compensated by the rocker being spot on. Over time this reduces fatigue and is very comfortable to handle and use. The ergonomics of the handle are good too, which is why that antler for yours looks good. Although the R.Welch handles a little thin for me. But antler would look stunning. The sharpened blade you have there looks fantastic by the way. Thickness looks good too. I know I sound like I'm teaching you to suck eggs Ben! Just my opinion. My British Yew-handled Woodlander is my go-to knife. After I bought it I just stopped looking. However it's rubbish at chopping vegetables! But we knew that 🤣

loving that design. i wonder if a 4.5mm thick version would make a good one knife option?

Looking good, I’ve just finished one of my bushcraft knifes with a scandi grind but can’t get it to keep an edge! Have you ever thought about making a Bowie knife?
