Great content, I have a Toro TimeMaster which I love. I am running the Big Leagues lawn kit and it gouges and rips the grass when I do a 180 turn. It seems all of the pressure is put on the inside wheel of the stripping kit. I think I will try the Lawn stripper to see if I can avoid this. Subbed

Hi John, thank you. I've removed my Checkmate from my Toro and I'm just waiting for Lawn Stryper to offer the connections for the Toro. I don't want to buy a whole new roller, but want to be able to use the Stryper between my Ego and Toro mowers.

The lawn stryper is awesome! I have had one on my 21" Honda hrn 216 walk behind mower for two years and have seen no negative affects to my lawn even on my side yard which is a 45° hill . All I see is very bold light stripes going away from the house and emerald green stripes coming to the house. No ripping or gouging. The taller you mow the better the stripes. I mow three and a half inches in the spring and four inches in the heat of summer to keep it green and to protect it from burning/drying out.

Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I just picked up the checkmate for my new EMower. I had something similar to the lawn Stryer system on my gas mower just with a smooth roller. Both of the striping looked great in your video.

You know what the idea behind the lawn striper to be easily removed like that. I think that took the trophy 🏆. People love east ways to get nice lawns how much easier is that to get stripes! A++

The Checkmate I have will fit my Ego and the Toro, but you have to switch out the hardware. Call me lazy but that Checkmate only made it onto my Ego once LOL. It stays on the Toro and then I was using the Ego to get the edges and tight spots to help with turns.

The one thing I didn't like about the Big League Striper was turning was a total pain. If I had a large wide open yard it would have been great, but in my lawn, it was difficult to make turns without tearing up the lawn. I switched to the Toro Striping kit for my Timemaster mainly because it is on the hook like the Lawn Stryper and it swivels and I can remove it when I want. Great overview of the two stripers PJ!

Yep. Totally accurate assessment. I’m like borderline hoarder when it comes to lawn equipment but I can see me selling the Checkmate in about a month.

The maneuverability and easy off feature on the Stryper looks great! I have the checkmate, and striping in the tighter spaces, can get a little hectic. I might have to check the stryper out.

Same here. The turns are much better with the Stryper. Initially I thought the extra movement would be a problem but it’s not. I mow the edges with the roller off then pop that sucker on to lay some stripes. Really love the convenience.

I had both. I found that you can control your lines much easier with the checkmate. The Stryper kit swivels a bit and makes it tough to keep perfect lines. Checkmate keeps laser straight lines because it fastened on both sides vs down the center like the stryper kit. I'd take the checkmate any day over lawn stryper.

I got the 21" lawnstryper PRO for my Greenworks and I LOVE IT! This one has a ball joint attachmant at the tow bar and a brush that sweeps behind the roller which makes the stripes even more pronounced

@@GirLzLawn I have a Toro lawn striper modded to work on my ego before I knew about these. I drilled through the rails and mounted with bolts but it doesn't hold its placement well and lags behind the mower by about 1 foot...not ideal but it works. I'm excited to have the stryper sit close to the rear of the mower for ease of use. I filled my Toro with concrete because it's denser and allows for more weight in the same volume...going to do the same with this kit rather than sand. It's a little tedious to get the concrete into the striper given its a fine powder but it is much heavier than sand.

I have been using the checkmate for about a year. I agree having to unbolt keeps me from removing the roller. Striper Steve is sending me a lawn stryper to try out. Can't wait to get it!

Hey Lynette. It’s the kit attached to the Ego that is causing the stripes. The Toro has a kit called Checkmate on it. Fun toys.

I like the Stryper too. I had the toro striper on my last 21" recycler, worked great. I just bought the 22" battery recycler. It sucks, don't get it. It doesn't recycle/mulch worth a crap. But im stuck with it for now. I priced the toro 22" striper and its now 200$. Hoping the stryper will be cheaper.

Exactly what I needed! I was wondering how each comes off. I may go Lawn Styper due to the ease of removing the striper easier than the checkmate and quicker. But Stryper seems to be $20-30 more expensive.

awesome got my Lawn Stryper gc pro 21 i have bermuda cut at 1 inch with manual real mower then i went over it with rotary mower set at 1 1/2 to pick up clippings and stripe it no stripes am i doing it all wrong hhahahaha thanks

Great Content! I noticed you have a different connection than I do for attaching the lawn stryper to the ego mower. Where did you get that ? mine just seems to be for a cylinder handle frame, not the odd shape of the ego. You have the perfect image of this at 2:57 of this video. Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes, you can. It’s easier than the Checkmate but it’s a movement that takes some getting used to. I was used to it by the end of the first mow with it.

you will get better stripes with lower grass. 3 inches is perfect. trust me I learned that hard way that 3.5 and higher is nice to walk on but not for stripes

Yes, you are correct. But this year I am keeping my grass cut high in order to try to keep it as healthy as possible. The stripes are cool, but they’re not priority.

@@GirLzLawn the Lawn Stryper for the same reason you have, plus the installation is easier on my Honda mower! I hated the idea to make holes for the simple reason that if you make an error you are screwed!

Is the EGO kit for the Stryper the new “Gen 3” or can we get their ‘classic’ model which is a little cheaper?

For the Ego, you have to get the Gen 3. Classic won't work. It's the shape of the Ego handle bars that makes the difference, so Lawn Stryper created a connector kit specifically for the Ego with their Gen 3.

Better than the Checkmate because there is more swivel. Neither of the strippers are perfect but the ease of removing the roller is definitely a winner.

I have the checkmate. Not working well with my toro recycler for various reasons (turning seems harsh on the lawn, on/off not as quick, and notches for height adjustment block my ability to lift front of mower while turning, turning on concrete leaves black marks). Looking at switching to lawn stryper. Currently i have toro recycler, in the future i would like to get an ego mower though. Can someone confirm that lawn stryper is compatible with both of these. Do i need 3rd gen or the previous, and whats the difference between them? My understanding is 3rd gen is compatible with ego and previous ones aren't. Is 3rd gen not compatible with toro recycler then? TIA, and great video

You will need the 3rd Gen for the Ego. The original and the 3 Gen works with the Toro. The clamp attachment are different for the Toro and Ego so that’s the main difference. Currently Lawn Stryper doesn’t sell just the clamp attachments so you won’t be able to use the roller on both mowers.

When you do your turns with the checkmate; do you do sharp pivot turns or do you go forward a bit, then back up a bit as you turn some, and then forward again? In other words, is doing a 3 point turn like I just asked, does it also tear up the grass some?

Great job PJ on the comparisons. The Lawn Striper did very well and is easy to take on and off. I am biased to the Checkmate having been using it since 2006. You can use the JImmy Lewis quick removal approach so that you don't have to have the Checkmate on all the time. Both stripe well so they both get the Stamp Of Approval from Striperman. 👍💚🦸
