Sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost my password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me.
DadTube… full of lawn care tips, terrible puns and stories that essentially have no beginning, middle, or end as told by those leading lives of quiet desperation in the suburbs of America
Finally built mine today after finding this video a few months ago! It was a little more tricky, but it works and my yard looks great! I’m a chick obsessed with her lawn!
Neat idea. If you want to make backing up easier add another loop bolt in the middle and top of PVC. Put a hook on the other side of rope and make rope as long as from PVC to top bar. Lift hook which will lift PVC when needed.
This was an excellent video. I have been looking to make a striper and this was the most simple one I've found. I am a special educator and take notice of how individuals present information. You have an incredibly calming way of teaching. The viewer is put at ease and it is easy to comprehend the content you provide. Excellent work and I appreciate this.
Wow! Thank you so much for your kind feedback. I am a Physical Education/Health teacher as well. I appreciate you watching and commenting. I hope you have a great finish to your school year!
@UCNCcuYnLc8g_I--PTj3-kUQ because i went to school to study growing grass and getting that striped look without expensive mowers is hard and this is a solution. Instead of showing everyone you are a tool, just scroll by next time.
@@MFSINPSA 😂 I just make videos to try to help people out, and I get attacked in the comments frequently. Some people obviously just have bigger problems that have nothing to do with us.
I just made this exact roller. From the economy, prices have changed drastically. For the short pipe it cost me $17, the end caps cost $1.67 each, the pepples cost me $3, the eye bolts cost me $2 each, the harness clamps cost me $2 each, the glue cost me $4, the lock tight nuts cost me 24 cents each, and the lock tight washers cost me 16 cents each. These items were purchased here in Missouri. Still alot cheaper than buying a factory made roller, but this is no longer $15 to make but it still is worth making.
To anyone reading this: with the carabiners make sure you get the ones that can lock, I got the spring type like in this video and for some reason when I turn the mower they disconnect from the eye bolts. Strange but it does it very often when I spin the mower. Locking carabiners will fix this. By the way I mounted mine on the EGO electric mower and it works great
@@Anon-ft1yb I drilled two holes 14in apart between the back wheels right above the rubber flap on the bottom of the mower. The rubber flap is 16.25in length on my EGO. My PVC piece is 16in and the eye hooks are 14in apart leaving 1in on each end
This is amazing.. cost me under $20 and the results are crazy! Striped my yard like crazy! Neighbor already asked how I did it no reason to pay over $100
Thanks for the great video and fantastic project. I just cut my grass after building and attaching the striper- and it works great! My lawn looks terrific! The stripes are just like at the gold course. I used 4 " pvc pipe and didn't know if it would be too heavy, but I simply popped the last cap on without glueing it to see how it felt. I took some pea gravel out until I found the right weight . Very easy and inexpensive project.
Nice, cannot believe I did not know that the strips were grass bent in different directions. Retired and now living in Florida. Now that I do not have to run a business I can get into lawn work.
Last year I rigged up a piece of conduit and zip ties. Surprisingly I did notice some results. Then I saw you create your own last year, and I'm DEFINITELY doing this this year. PVC makes so much sense.
I watched your video last week, made my new lawn striper Friday night. My lawn look good before, now it looks even better with this new attachment. Thanks for the tips on making it. It cost be 28 dollars. Great video.
Great idea!!! I'd fill mine with concrete just incase the end caps fell off. And I like that 3rd eye hook idea for backing up. This is brilliant. Thank You.
Could the weight of grass clippings in the bag plus dragging a concrete filled PVC pipe around cause undue strain on the mower self-propel function thus ruining the mower......
A basic petrol cylinder mower in the UK is about £300. A professional model obviously costs much more, but the domestic versions are fine for most people. Our rotary mowers are available with either rear wheels or a rear roller. I prefer rollers as they stripe, but they also make cutting over the edge of the lawn easier, as the mower simply balances while overhanging the edge.
Great video…I built my own striping bar based on these instructions. I had to pivot slightly because my rear wheels are much larger than the mower used in this video. So my PVC hangs off the back in between the two wheels with about 1/4 inch space on the sides, and lays about 2 inches back from the debris flap. Anyway, my lines look awesome, thanks for the tips!
I went with very similar up. The only difference is I wanted the PVC to roll so I drilled 1/2” holes in end caps, ran rod through it, slipped eye bolts over end of rod, added a pipe cap to keep eyebolt steady and connected (2) 1” wide pieces of flat steel to each eyebolt. This meets to a point (V shape) and attaches to my zero turn.
Thanks, I planted my Zoysia really late in 2019 so last year was my first real growing season, and with my Zoysia is just starting its second season and starting the peak growth cycle, and I want to try making one like you did and add stripes to my lawn. One great thing about Zoysia is it grows so freaking thick and dense! I've seen these builds before, but I just saw yours and it was easy and simple. As a minor upgrade idea, you could have added a 3rd eye bolt in the center with a section of rope and a third carabiner on the top handle. Tie a rope from the eye bolt to the middle handle support with enough slack so when you pull the rope to the carabiner on the top handle, it pulls the striper up off the grass and holds it up until you release it. This is just a rough idea. I've not tested it to see if the excess rope would be a risk to catching the blade. If it is I'm sure it would be easy to use a bungie cord or something to keep it up and out of the way. Liked and subscribed too!
@@lakehouselawncare1755 Thanks...although my Zoysia didn't do a great job striping. It's so dense that it pushes the blades back up. It does stripe, but even with using a 4" PVC pipe and gravel, the extra weight didn't allow the Zoysia to hold a stripe very long - maybe a day or two. If I was someone that mowed every day or every other day it would take, but I don't have the time for that. Thanks again for the video!
@@88krazie There are multiple types of Zoysia. Some are thin bladed and a bit pokey on the feet. I have Zenith Zoysia which is a medium bladed Zoysia, and I find it quiet comfortable to walk on barefoot. I also mow my lawn at 1.5 inches most of the time versus down to 3/4 inch, so that may make it a bit softer. A few of the neighborhood kids that play in my front Zoysia lawn commented they loved playing in my lawn more than any other because it was so soft and felt good to play in and roll around in. Zoysia takes about the same amount of work as most other grasses. I mow about the same frequency as others with nice lawns in my neighborhood. I can go heavier on the root pruning herbicides like Prodiamine or Dithiopyr, and I need to apply fertilizers and such as often as others, although I do not need to put down as much nitrogen as many other types. Weed control is a little easier as once the lawn is dormant, anything not dormant is a weed and it sticks out like a sore thumb. I live in the transition zone and my neighbor keeps a great fescue lawn. I'm not sure why people like fescue so much. Sure, it has a very deep root system so it can go longer without water, but you plant one seed, you get one plant, and over time that plant gets old and gets diseased or dies and leaves a void which makes it easier for weeds to pop up. You can fight this with a pre-emergent, but when you do this, you cannot overseed to fill in these holes, and if you do need to overseed, you also have weeds growing in at the same time as the new seed. He doesn't put down any KBG to spread and fill in the voids. He mows it with a striping kit, and to most that don't know much about lawn care, the strips look really nice. If you pay attention between mowings, you'll see a fair amount of weed pressure. There' are several spots that are brown where the Fescue has died out and left voids. I put down some Midnight KBG in the first few days of April and do nothing but water it. I used a SunJoe dethatcher which with the dethatching attachment is just an electric power rake, which after mowing down ton 1 inch, I raked and pulled up as much debris as possible. I left the weed root system to maintain the soil structure so the dogs won't make it a muddy mess, and hoped a fair amount of the KBG would establish, which is has. It's buried in a ton of weeds, but it's in place to spread. I'll spray herbicide in late summer to see if the KBG will fill in. If so, I'll put down prodiamine to prevent new weeds over the winter and see how the Midnight KBG goes. I have two dogs that run and play in the back yard, so I'm testing which is easier to maintain with dogs playing, and which is easier to mow. I hate how cool season grasses clump up and stick to the mower deck. My Zoysia doesn't clump like that, and when i have a clean deck starting to mow my Zoysia, it stays clean. Unless the cool season lawn/weeds in the back yard are dry from lack of rain for several hot days, the mower deck is caked with glued on wet grass/chlorophyll, and it dumps grass in bulk here and there as the build up gets too thick. Unless I'm really impressed with the KBG, I'll just take Zoysia plugs and let them spread and take over the back lawn year by year. I don't like other types of grass as much because it feels like you're walking on little clumps of bunching grass. Which is why the kids loved playing in my lawn.
On riding mowers you can bolt a concrete finishing brush to the back side of the deck and it'll do the same thing and you won't have to worry about it when backing up. I've had the same one on my Cub Cadet for 6 years, still works great.
That's a great idea, how do you know where to set it so it's not smashed in the ground and not to high up I keep my lawn cut to 3 inches, and I would love to do that I have a few old concrete brooms still look new but I could spare one lol
Protip. Put a third eye bolt in the middle and tie a rope to the middle eyelet eye bolt. That way when you reverse you just pull the rope up. Also if you dont have lock nuts. Use two bolts and a spring washer in the middle. And id use a washer on the inside of that pvc tube to spread the force out a little.
Inflation In Two Years Since This Video Has Been Exponential! Just Went To Home Depot For These Components, $33.00 Build As Of Today 07/27/2023. Still Cheaper Than A Boxed Striper, Thank You!
Totally thanks . Why i forgot my wallet at the store but had $15 in cash and it came up to $14.86 and that getting everything that you said get.. Then went home and about 30 mins had it all together and I’m no where close to a fix it guy. Thanks . Neighbor across the street gonna really be mad my yard better
I already give my neighbors lawn envy but now I have a cost efficient way to give them more true lawn striping envy. Crushing thy neighbors thanks to you. Going to build this today! Headed to Lowes right now.
😂 I love it!! You are going to be dominating! The first pass, you may not notice the stripes being as defined, but if you go over it a second time, they will be poppin! Thanks for watching and commenting.
I did this years ago, but used PVC end caps and drilled holes in the center of the end caps. You can buy a threaded steel rod that goes all the way through to the other side and bolt it on the end caps. This way it rolls rather than drags. Keep in mind that lawn stripers really only work best on fescue and bermuda grasses. In my opinion, it's not worth the trouble trying to do in on St, Augustine, or similar type grasses.
@@rameshkaranam Yes, it will work on Bermuda. Ever notice how golf greens will have those strips also? It just doesn’t work too well with St. Augustine which is everywhere here in the south.
I used to run Locke reel mowers in the 1970s through the 1990s. Built in Bridgeport CT and they cut and rolled the lawn into the Original lawn stripes. The drive to the ground was two rollers with a differential in the middle and a dolly wheel in the back between the handlebars. They dominated commercial mowing in southern New England (maybe elsewhere) until the walk behind rotary commercial mowers became popular.
Great tutorial. I'm gonna attempt this but I'm going to use three eye bolts. I'm going to put the third one in the middle of the pipe and attach a wire to it so I can lift up the striper when I need to go backwards.
I don't have a lawn, but I learned something new I was always curious how the stiripes on fields and lawns were made. Thanks for the info and great vid.
I just put a much stiffer length of rubber where the rear skirt is. The part that drags behind the mower between the rear wheels. I found a piece of rubber in my garage so mine was free, but there are many things that would work to drag along the grass enough to bend it over. Play with the parameters and you'll have a very effective striper.
I went a step further and added another eyebolt with nut in the middle of the pvc and use a 28-48" adjustable bungee strap with hooks one end to the pvc and the other to the mower handle. When you need to back up or don't want to strip a certain area, just pull the hook up to the handle and you're good.
@@lakehouselawncare1755 Well, I can tell you that you put together a fabulous video for us "Perfectionist on Lawns"! I'm going to Home Depot tomorrow!!!
Thank you for the idea on how to make my own roller I will definitely be doing my own and hopefully it’ll work wonders on my stripping.. I’m stripping but it doesn’t show as much I’m excited to try this out
Debating whether to try this or make something similar with a handle and drag it around. Unfortunately I have a lot of fences and barriers and I'm not sure how to handle them without creating a giant double wide stripe along all the fences and borders. It wouldn't be so bad if my property wasn't so small. Of all the DIY striping solutions this seems to make the best stripes though. Nice job.
I don't even know why this video showed up but now I want to do this just for the heck of it! You should paint the tube red and sell it as a premade kit based on mower width. Even with how easy your instructions are, I'm sure there are some who would rather buy it as a kit instead of putting 5 minutes of work into making it themselves.
I have always loved the look of the baseball infields...used to cut the lawn twice, but at different angles. This makes great sense and can't wait to get the PVC into action!
Thanks, this was a great video. I like to take care of my lawn and wanted to have stripes but didn't want to spend big money, so this was a great alternative.
Ok well I bought my stuff at Lowe's. And I tried it on one of my costumers and it didn't do anything but then I noticed the grass was short and I raised the deck and in sure it will be good. Thx so much for the vid
If you add a 3rd eye bolt in center of pvc then attach a string or bungee cord to it. Then when you need to back up you can move the bungee cord from the middle cross brace of the mowers handle to the top of the mower handle it would hold it out of the way for reversing.
Thanks for the suggestion, John! The only issue I see with a 3rd eye bolt in the middle is how to connect the nut to the bolt when it’s in the middle of the pvc.
Kyle! Thanks so much for the video. Just as you promised. I wait with anticipation to use my “Lakehouse Striping Kit”...would love to share the results with you! Looking forward to more of your content brother. 👊
just have to add a string or something on it to lift it up while backing up. Easy fix to the only "problem" with this design lol will be doing this in the future!
Predicting< a reversal of a trend is risky, and even worse, I believe there is more to this market than we understand currently. When people are losing, they don't aim to increase their average, but that can only change if you have a personal trade guide and signal provider like that of Kennet Gibbs which has made me almost 8.7 on a 2 btc Trade capital over the last 2 months. Make the wise decision. Markets fluctuate in cycles that can last anywhere from a few days to several years. In the case of B-TC, it's difficult to make a bullish case simply from looking at the charts.
Awesome. I think i might do this but with the one modification of adding another eye bolt or two on top but very towards the rear and attach some paracord with slack to my handle so i can easily lift it for backing up ect. Thanks for the great video
Great tips Kyle! I made a video on a DIY stripe kit last July that video is my channel only difference I did was use string to attach it to my mower, but I think I will switch to carabiners as the string always falls apart
i added 3 pcs of rebar steel cut to length and stuffed them inside the plastic flap on the back of the mower and zip tied them....the added weight made a difference
To make it So that you can back up... At a third eye bolt in the center. Connect a piece of rope to that up to your handle. As you back up just pull the rope and it will lift the striper.
i have the lawn stryper and it works great with my honda but this is a great and affordable alternative i can have. great video, well put together, new sub! your yard and water front look gorgeous!
Nice video! I see that the PVC you used was made at Charlotte Pipe Foundry. I worked at WH Rogers sheet metal and iron works in Charlotte, and our company spent almost every weekend there doing some kind of maintenance work. A very hot place to work and they made all kinds of pipe. Definitely not a easy job, but it seemed to be a great company, and so was WH Rogers also. Again, awesome video my friend. Mount Holly NC :)
