@Ashnflash in my opinion they need to keep the old helmet and modify the new face plate so that we 1 don’t have the height issue 2 don’t have the modded mouth/eyes issue and 3 so that it has the clicking into place feature that the new one has but we still need to keep the old helmet and “comic” helmet because there not bad it’s just they work for certain suits just not all of them
Original The one that can't open... (I love some figures like war machine that used it, think thats the best version of him.) The weird Payton manning forehead horridly printed weird looking one we have now. I feel like better printing will make the helmet look better but it's still going to look rough with the helmet open.
I think that the comic book helmet suits certain kinds of armour, but my only issue was that the visor couldn't come up. I think it's very clever what they've done overall (however I would have liked it if they did this with batman...)
I think the original helmet is the best of the 3. I actually liked the comic book helmet more than most people because they never used that helmet for the MCU versions. The new one for me works for the mark 85 and 50 but thats it. Still wish they didn’t change it however because I am still very attached to the original version because it looks perfect to me.
The good thing is that since all the helmets in the actual suit designs across movies are pretty similar, you can always put an old helmet on a new minifig.
the new one doesn't even look good even though theyre best for nanotech suits, it just feels cheap and feels like a knock off, the original feels real and its sculpted while the new up is just printed that makes it look cheap
I still strongly believe that LEGO should have just made a new visor piece that fits with the old style of helmets, just more sleeker and less defined.
The original helmet is fine, the “comic book” one is pretty good for certain suits and the 2022 one is pretty good, but it would be better if it was slightly shorter (a little like the og or “comic book” one)
The first one is good. The second one is good for stuff like Mark 1 and Rescue. But personally I enjoy the new helmet the most, it’s very bulky but I am a fan of the printing on the new one, it has a nicer looking gold. Also I have had iron man helmets before and they get so loose one got so loose it would just close and I like the clips I wish the eyes were more printed though.
I’m loving the new helmets I don’t own a ton of the old ones but the ones I do own the front piece are super loose and easily comes off. Looks like the new one is much better in terms of stability and may as well replace the old ones. We may see in the future a mix of the new helmet and the invincible helmet for iron mans moving forward.
One thing I've always disliked with the (I believe it's 2) Iron Man figures that have gold arms, the gold doesn't match the rest of the suit. It's always a brighter gold than the one on the suit, and I know that it might be hard to match the colors perfectly, it's still really annoying because it doesn't look as good as it would if it were the same color. Hopefully LEGO finds a fix for that soon, it's such a minor thing but it just bugs me a lot
agreed. The pearl gold printing looks pretty different from the pearl gold molds. That's one of the main reasons I don't like the new helmets, is the difference in color between the printed and molded version of the pearl gold color.
Initially, I liked the look of them. Then, I thought they looked weird. Too tall. But since seeing the new helmets properly (and with the masks actually closed), I really like them. I love that the gold is now the same shade as the rest of the print, which is something that's always bugged me, and I think they just look better. The "mouth" is now detailed properly, along with the rest of the mask details, and it looks more authentic. Maybe a smidge too tall, but really only a small amount, at the cost of better durability (probably). There's heavy nostalgia for the original, I think, simply because the original is an iconic Lego piece, but that it also effectively means starting suit collections again... We'll still have our old ones, but the idea of one day getting all of them has now been reset. With the Mercedes F1 car, I can see Lego making an Iron Man 2 set for Monaco (the race this weekend, actually), and redoing the Mk V with the new helmet. Hopefully updates for the Mk VI and Mk VII soon too. I'll have to see how I feel when I get one myself, but yes, definitely very positive. The price of the set, on the other hand, means that won't be for a while. Far too high.
The newer helmets is pretty nice, it's a bit taller and bulky, I'm having the same feelings as I did with the 2017 helmet. It has it's upsides and downsides for sure. It's shouldn't be a replacement, just another version.
I think everyone has nostalgia lenses. The new helmet is alot better imo. I am just starting to get in marvel minifigs and with no previous attachment to the old, I feel like the new is definitely an improvement
No the first one definitely gets the shape of the actual helmet the best, the second one allows lego ideas project to have basically any character with a helmet, and new well it attempts to be both, but it's hugh bulk to small eyes and less definite shape, make it look weird and it only works for iron man while replacing a universal helmet
I feel like the only bad helmet is the new one, the one without a flip up helmet is good, although I feel like it’s been misused on certain figures (Looking at you, Wasp & 2020 Iron-Man).
Yeah, it’s a good piece and the only thing that went wrong with it is that Lego put it on basically any figure they could, and it’s overuse made the helmet horrible in a lot of peoples eyes. It’s like the Endgame suits from back when those sets were out; they were good leg and torso pieces but it being in every set on almost every minifig killed it.
Personally I really like the new one, especially on the endgame suit that looks fantastic. I think the comic book one is decent but only for particular suits and the first one the faceplate is too wide. I think it works for the older MCU suits but I would prefer to see the new one going forward
I don't really understand why people thought the "comic book" helmet was a replacement, it was never used for a tony stark in an mcu set except for the mark 1, the comic book helmet was never a replacement it aas just used for suits that worked better for and comic/game based sets
I really like the OG helmet, and I like the one-piece helmet, but I’m not a huge fan of the new helmet. It has its pros, it doesn’t look as square or bulky as the OG one did, but it’s way too big and tall imo. I don’t hate it, but I don’t really like it either, I’m not sure how exactly how I feel about it yet, I’ll wait until I have it in hand before I judge it completely
If there's just so many controversy over a change it is for sure not a well received changed (so possibly a change for the worst). I didn't see so many people disliking the addition of the molded helmet for Cap, the new Thanos bigfig, the change in collor in Rocket's furr, and so So nostalgia really isn't the deal
I think the new helmet is just like the old one but thicker and a more smooth face for more detail and look at the gold prints to on the new one they're more accurate to what's on the suit I think the new one would be even better if they made the mask flip open exactly how it does in the movies where the mask opens up by the slip and the chin covers the Minifigures jaw
I think the reason the new ones look weird is because the print looks shrunken inside the face shell. The cheek prints aren't actually in the cheek divot area
I do like the new one and hope it is used, as long as the original isn't replaced. This one definitely looks better on the mk 50 and 85, but the mk 3 6 and 7 need to have the original. I'm all for a new helmet, just don't scrap the old one.
I think we just have to get use to it because we have had such a consistent helmet for years and they they decide to make a brand new one. Look at it this way maybe it's time for a change since the new one is basically the two old ones mixed together.
As I’ve heard for the majority of my life; ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ The second helmet, the comic-book one, worked perfectly well for what it wanted. Its a simple, smaller, less function version of the more complex helmet. The only real issue with the first helmet was that it only had one application, and using it outside of that application was near impossible, even with some Iron-Man suits. For example, the Rescue suit from Endgame just didn’t really work with it, so they had to use the comic-book one instead. Personally, I love the idea of the new one. To have a helmet that looks clean and flush but still keeps that feature of flipping it open is a great idea… it just could’ve been improved upon. Eg. Not being as tall/large. Maybe having the face a little lower. It’s a great idea… just not-so-great execution.
The original is the best one in my opinion. It had great colors and the 3-D parts of the helmet mask part. Then the second one still has good colors, but it sucks that the mask part could no longer flip up (which was for the purpose of reusing the mold). But the latest one, I am happy the flip up feature is back, but it looks like a cheap knock-off you see on eBay (regardless of it being official). I do like the detail on the last one though. So here are some pros and cons. First one: Good colors, nice flip feature, little detail. Second one: Good colors, no flip feature, even less detail. Last one: Less shiny, no more 3-D features, can flip-up (more than first one), lots of detail, bit bulky.
For the new helmet... I think the print needs to be wider, stretched. I honestly love the helmet that can't open, that version of war machine is the absolute best imo. And the best helmet until they work out the printing to make it work better on the new one (if they even can, it's a pretty freaky looking helmet.) is the one from 2012
Just based on seeing the 3 of them together, BEFORE you starting going into detail, I have to say I love the first one, the far left IRON MAN Helmet! I have quite a few of those, and none of the center/comics one, and none of the right one yet! I just feel like it has the most defined shape, and the part that opens is exactly the Gold Faceplate, and as it should! Thats my opinion before you go into details. I shall leave a reply to this comment, for after the video and your detailed comparison happens. Cheers!
I've asked myself if it's just nostalgia and I don't think so . The previous two versions are just much, much better. I'd be fine using this new helmet on bigger bulky armors but It shouldn't be the new standard.
All 3 helmets work perfectly on certain suits for example 3. The 2017 1: it's perfect for comic book suits and others like mrk 1 and other suits 2. The 2022 1 is good for nano tech suits 1. The 2012 1, it's good for older suits in the MCU like mrk 3, 4, 5 and 6 all the way to mrk 47
6:20 And I think thats the reason they made it thicker Just to be more durable. I think its an improvement over the non openable helmet but I can definitely see the disadvantage for the helmet being too big.
Wow... I fully agree! It's stupidly overpriced, why pay $90 for a tiny build, and it doesn't really make sense that nick fury and pepper are there. It's literally called "iron man armoury" which means it should just be tony and his suits, since he's usually alone in that room. Also yes those helmets are ugly. They made it too bulky. It's too flat so they used printing for the details, and it just doesn't look good.
I didn’t even know there was a new Ironman helmet but I think the new one definitely does better then the 2nd Gen helmets used for the comic suits. I do like how the first two designs are combined Although the printing seems a bit off because it’s just on a flattened surface where as the first helmet was defined which I think Is missing. I do think then new helmet has potential though but I also think they could of done more prints on older helmets but hope to see the new one a bit more mixed with older ones.
One thing that you missed here is the Mark 39 figure, the Space Suit - it has the classic 2012 helmet, but the visor piece has less gold on it, giving the "face" a more narrow look. I dislike the new helmet, it's too big and doesn't look that much better than the second one.
I would just want a mix between the 3 from now on instead of one at a time and use all of them for there full potential. the original is always going to be the way to go for me and the 2017 one can look very good if you use it for the right suits they all have there special ways that lego should use them I just don't want them to stick with one mix it up and use all 3.
Am I the only one who thinks that the new helmet mold looks SIGNIFICANT better on the new grey and yellow suit than the rereleased suits? Maybe it’s the color but the other two face plates feel like they’re trying to mimic the older helmets with the printing but for that new suit it just looks amazing.
I quite liked it in the set pictures but here it looks worse. Too bulky. I like some of y’all’s suggestions of just making a new face plate mold for the 2012 helmet instead
The second one works for certain suits like the ones shown, but shouldn't be used all the time. But the third one is just way too bulky. The original one had more 3d detail while the new one is mainly just flat. It's essentially the second one but with an opening visor, and it only works for other bulky suits like mk1
I think the new helmet works on certain helmets. Mark 50 and 85 specifically. The "Comic Book" one is fine, just not my favorite. For the original, I think I prefer it for the older suits in the MCU. Overall, they're all good. But I have my preference is towards the helmets that open up
The original helmet is the best of the three because even though it’s bulky, it still fits the LEGO aesthetic. While I like the new one in concept and I think it could have been great. It’s the actual shape of it that’s the problem. It’s too oversized and elongated that the printed visor design doesn’t fit over the whole visor piece. The MK 25 is the only one that looks good with it because it’s the only one where the printing looks like it’s scaled correctly with the piece itself. The MK 3 on the other hand, has the face print looking way to small to over the whole piece. I hope Lego introduces a new mold soon after this that takes what works, but makes it smaller
I like all of the helmets, but the original has to be my favorite design. The shape is perfect, and the dual-molding looks much better than the printing imo. The comic book one looks good, though I'm a bigger fan of some of the prints than others. The newest one is definitely my least favorite. I like that the helmet lifts up, but the shaping feels off and it just doesn't look quite right. The helmet is fine, but not as good as the others.
the new helmet is a mix of the 2017 one and the 2012 one. its got the good parts of the 2012 one, and the okay parts of the 2017 one. which makes it a middle ground helmet, considering i like the old one the best. The new one is definitely the most polished
I think Its a great change but all helmets should still be used ... I think the new one Is way better than the 2nd one ... The 1st should be used on the more rigid ones like mk 3 , 4 etc And the new one should be used on more slim ones like mk 47,48,50,80 the 2nd should be used on special shapes that dont fit the oldest od newest versions ...
I think the new helmets should only be used on suits that they would fit. Like heavy duty or maybe a war machine suit. Other than that they should stick with the original mold. Either way, as much as I can, I’m gonna try and put original helmets on any new suits with the new mold.
Im mixed as I do like it and not at the same time it’s hard to know but I think the new one works for the mark 85 and mark 25 also maybe the war machine but I don’t think it works so much for the mark for the mark 3 really I don’t know actually I’m still mixed bro I do like some of the designs 👍
The more I look at it the more I don't like the new helmet. I think the conspect is good but execution is bad. And as someone who didn't mind the unopenable helmet on certain suits I don't feel it nesissary.
The first one is the best at doing what it should-being iron man's helmet The second is amazing, just because it allows people on lego ideas to basically do every single helmet The third one is really doesn't look that good, and maybe it's better in hand, but it's still worse than both other ones, in there field of expertise, like if it standard- You know how they started printing pieces in the lego store I really hoped they we could print on that with that helmet, considering both samus's gunship and the Bionicle set showed it of amazingly
The new one is too bulky, if they could have taken the original base model and created a smooth surface piece for printing I think I would be good with that, but with the significant extra material at the top it just feels to big
I think the bigger, clunkier helmets fit the earlier ones better. The newer ones fit the nanotech ones. I just think that if they were shorter, they would be much better
I do like the new one however it seems too flat on the faceplate, maybe bringing back the indented eyes like the older one had would make it seem less flat. Also the mk85 needs those blue eyes back
I think I'm one of the very few that like the "comic look" more of the three. The first and last are too bulkier to my taste and I never expose the iron mans with the visor opened
i like all 3. There's no going wrong with the classic but like you said if say they wanted to make mark 19, use the new one cause print and height, and the 2017 one works great with Rescue
I love the old one, major props for being sculpted feels awesome, and paint work can absolutely elevate it such as the mk 45 for AoU and mk 46 & 47. But does look awkward with newer armors like the mk 50 and 85. Comics one, model 51 (ANAD) is my all time favorite iron man minifigure, but feels like wasted potential on iron man overall. It's been hit or miss on other characters like the awesome rescue armors. But doesn't really work on the mk 1, mk 2 is kinda meh, and the game design is proof we could have had so much fun with it like a 90s iron man or as you mentioned a shotgun minifig but lego hasn't gone there yet. Finally the new one, haven't had it in hand yet but looks fine. Not a fan of having the face plate being painted as not sure how well it'll stand the test of time, but having the opening feature on a mold that is not limited to look like an early iron man helmet is kinda promising. Only concern I have is hope lego doesn't pull a batman cowl 1&2 fully phasing out the old mold. As for iron man specially having multiple molds for different armors is a major plus
I think something important to remember during this discussion is that the proportions on the og helmet aren't as screen accurate as people think they are. Now you could argue all day about minifig proportions and yadda yadda but I think that's worth taking into account
I've actually always liked the "comic" helmet. I've replaced my Mark 50 with the 2020 Avengers helmet and my Mark 85 with the new April mech helmet. I really liked the sleek futuristic vibe they had, and it's not like Tony's later suits had flip-up visors. Plus, my old helmets were getting loose. I think the original and the new helmet also are good depending on what suit. For example, the earlier suits definitely look better with the original helmets, while the Mark 85 and the Striker work well with the new helmet. Hopefully Lego keeps around all three types for more Iron Man variety!
I like the “comic” helmet the best…when they don’t use the Avengers game print but besides that it’s a good helmet for other designs, but old helmets are also the best, makes it fun and movie accurate as well as it fits with other armors, but the new one does it differently and it just doesn’t work
