NEW Leicester Electric Buses April 2024

In April 2024, on a visit back to the UK, I made a couple of trips into the centre of Leicester to grab some footage of the new electric buses now in service there. As I write these are mainly Wrightbus or Yutong buses, with more on order for both First Leicester and Arriva Midlands.
Despite the very wet and rainy weather during my stay, I managed to cobble together some clips, which I hope you'll enjoy. A couple of nods to the former Midland Red & Midland Fox Southgates bus garage, plus the out-going VDL DB250's are included.

Thanks Robert. Yes, the government have come up with the cash. Fast and quiet, but not fun if you have to stand up!

Sad to see the last remnants of ALX400s and Wright Eclipse Geminis being withdrawn around the country as ZEBRA funds reach those areas, but they have run their course. The Wright GB Kite is an excellent bus, rode one on the R70 in Richmond, London. Much better than the StreeLites. I like the look of the Yutong buses - not sure about some of those moquettes though!

They've gone for that bright green moquette in a big way. I only rode on the Yutong E9's and E12's which is basically what I did on my last visit to the UK in May 2023. Having left the UK in 1997, the DB250's still seem "modern" in my eyes. I suppose I've not got the same feelings of nostalgia for them as someone that has seen them in service day in and day out. I'd feel it more for the Leyland Olympians as those were in service when I worked for Midland Fox. Some of them had very long lives.

Interesting video, I don't think much of electric buses, unless they're trolleybuses. In my opinion EVs can play a role, but they face serious limitations in range in cold weather. To guarantee a proper public transport service electric buses have to be integrated by diesel or CNG internal combustion buses. The only real electric solution is the trolleybus or the tram.

@@patricksmodels Yes I noticed. Busy here too really or just tired. I'm spending more time posting content than scrolling timelines. I've been setting up Buy me a coffee for exclusive content and new video previews. So a new video is on there for members, but will go live on here and elsewhere on Wednesday. Working bit by bit it has taken nearly 2 weeks to finish it. Too many distractions.
