According to the specs on their website, the Trailhead had a 4mm drop, so it is not flat (zero drop). The toebox is not as broad as the Primal 2 and some of their other shoes. They state that the Mesa has a wider feeling fit with a wider toebox.
You are correct Thom! What are your thoughts? Do you think this isn’t a true minimalist sneaker? I imagine this is their attempt to try to appeal to a wider audience or people who are trying to get their foot in the door to their brand.

I can reccommend the following minimal/barefoot brands that have good sustainability and ethical standards: Vivobarefoot, Muki shoes, Feelgrounds, Tadeevo, Groundies, Wildling, SOM footwear, Freets footwear, Leguano, Senmotic, Zaqq, Belenka,. There are a few more I am missing

@@TheMensch lol damn my bad I missed that at the very end and yes I do own a pair of the russet leather ones! But yea, you should definitely do a video on them as far as how to style them- they are very comfortable pair of boots but its hard to get around those platypus toebox.
I like Lems a lot. I have the casual dress pair in a coffee color, great for Sabbath service. I have a pair of Altra that have the wide toe like Lems but the sole has soft rubber padding that looses its form in the heel and then you get heel pain because your heel is sloping sideways. I saw what looked like the same white rubber in the sole of the Lems primal shoe I think and then looked at the Trailhead. The Trailhead looks like a better sole than the Primal but the toe box is pointy and I hate pointy shoes. I hate pointy toe shoes so much it makes me mad every time I go shopping for shoes and a sales person tries to sell me some pointy toe shoe while they lie to me saying it is a wide toe shoe. I hope Lems will make the Trailhead with a wide toe. I hope Lems doesn’t go down the path of every dumb pointy shoe manufacturer.

Yeah its understandable that some minimalist footwear companies are trying to aim for a more "Stylish" look and therefore deviate from the wider toe box. good to know that lems is one of the brands that you have found most reliable! For me, as someone more fashion oriented, I find this shoe to be a great gateway into the minimalist footwear world, moreso than the primal. cheers!
@@TheMensch Will LEMS make the TrailHead shoes available in the wide toe? I hate style and tradition because style and tradition always deviates away from truth and leaves you with nothing but wasted time and money.
@@cdgarrett1 im not sure- it could be worth emailing them and see if they have any info. maybe check out their new mesa sneaker - it looks a bit wider in the front and is made of a more elastic material too
@@cdgarrett1 I have two pair of the Primal 2 shoes and one pair of Altra Paradigm 4.5s. The rubber is completely different on the soles. Also, I was on the "Chat" link with Lems today and based on my liking the Primal 2, the recommended the Mesa over the Trailhead. They stated that many customers that had been wearing the Primal found the Trailhead too narrow and the Mesa has a slightly wider toebox.
Nope! These are vagan friendly and are made on mesh and microfiber (faux-suede). Well see how they age but feel very high quality and very durable. The sole especially!

The Mensch on Menswear. I own one pair of Primals and three pairs of Boulder Boots. I’ve been wearing them for over a year and, yes, they have changed my life. Helped to cure my planta facitis, and you can see in the spread of my toes now how much healthier my feet are looking and feeling. I’m not really into the new direction Lems are taking. I can’t see how they intend to compete with Nike and Adidas etc with regular trainers
Wow pretty amazing stuff- I did a lot of research and it totally makes sense that feet would be healthier with natural footwear. to me its as simple as exercising your feet and arch, vs pampering them. I think they are trying to expand their market with their new direction. I think they've been very successful with their past models (boulder, primal) and probably just feel like they can sell more shoes. I just hope they dont lose their bread and butter shoes in the process!@@darrencoates
