The Lynx Motors DMC-EV has hit the market. 4-electric motor All-Wheel-Drive We go in to see what it's all about! And how much you might expect to pay for this....... #delorean #dmc12 #ev
Hub motors aren't cutting edge, they've been a thing since the 50s. The LeTourneau land train was going to use them all the way back then and many vehicles have since had them. The reasons these are rarely seen is more because the unsprung weight is really bad on suspension systems resulting in it breaking often and the fact packaging the motor in the wheel is just generally more expensive. That's really the reason we don't have cars with them. The idea has more made a resurgence recently because of the idea using hub motors frees up more space for even bigger batteries. Really the only benefits of hub motors are that they're slightly more efficient, they take up less space, and you can use vector torque control for better all wheel drive. Realistically the benefits are really minor though.
As a Delorean owner myself I gotta agree, I don't like the back it seems like there's a bunch of stuff missing and for 300k I'll stick with the classic. I'd put the original wheels back on too.
@@DeLoreanTECH 😄 We would be interested, but 299,500 minimum starting price before options, is a bridge too far. You could buy several fully restored ICE DeLoreans for that amount.
So far it sounds like over priced BS to me Todd! If there's anything legitimate here, they're lucky to build even one! I kinda like the back, but it does need more of the delorean look. The tail lights for one are iconic too the car and need to be incorporated. I really don't think it's even getting of paper so to speak.
There's nothing about giving them your own & having it upgraded. I'd like to see also the exact layout of the motos, batterys, weight distribution & I've had electric power steering added to mine. What happens to that. Yes, it seems like we've been down this rd already.
@DeLoreanTECH Recently I saw on the front page of the Google browser an electric auto conversion company in the UK called "Electrogenic" & their kit is *I think a single motor w/ 150 mi range. Under 5 sec to 60, battery in the fronk & up next to the firewall in the back. It's a lot less expensive but, it's in the UK. I'm a customer/client of Steve here in Houston. He & James have been promising for a decade + EFI w/ throttle by wire, cruise control & easy adjustment for turbos & whatever else but I'm still waiting. I want to go faster ICE or electric & I'm not LS-ing anything. This being in Austin is easy for me but at that price, no rolling example & this being announced days after Electrogenic makes their conversion available has me seriously questioning this company's endeavor. I don't think I'd hand over my keys just yet. Thanks for the response & bringing this to my attention. I may pay them a visit soon since they're up the rd (2 hours away). God bless the DMC-12!!
Seems cool, let’s how long they last until they get a C&D letter. Lol Houston couldn’t do it themselves so It’ll be interesting to see how far this company gets. Btw the Alpha looked NOTHING like a DeLorean, this IS a DeLorean just modified 👍🏼
Pretty sure they took notice but if it’s just customizing and selling existing cars would DMCH have any legal foundation? Look at DeLorean MidWest with their LS swaps
Very niche market even for a Delorean. Most people with that money are buying Lambos or Ferraris. Not a very good business plan and I wonder if they studied their forecasts or market. I predict this idea will go bust unless you have strong demand and lower price entry points. #5945
I vague recall seeing a show on a company that had a bunch of DeLorean body parts in a warehouse. Would that make it a real DeLorean? Of course you would have to come up with a new frame to put the panels on.
Yes that is most likely DMC Houston. You also need the VIN for the car. They have the frames and chassis. They could literally build a DeLorean from the gro7und up with the parts they have -- about 300 cars IIRC
Evs are the future says me a man who has worked with gas engine vehicles for almpst 20 years. Im not mad about it. i still like a v8, but why be upset about the future with amazing power and less maintenance. Lfp batteries have little to no fire risk compared to other batts. There are no apparent downsides to the present path to electrification in my view but i dont believe it should be mandated. I think it will be so compelling it wont need subsidization.
Nope - Deloreans have never been received well. Even now the collector community has been reluctant to be real enthusiastic. Although I have seen a slight surge in the originals
Gee I don't know buy a DeLorean that someone is making in their backyard for $300,000 or wait for Tesla's roadster for $250,000 at least with Justice roadster you wait 10 years for it but you will get it. You know how many companies started making electric vehicles took a deposit and never produced anything?
This looks like a concept that does not exist yet. All CGI. Not even a mock up to show or drive! Sketchy at best. And long term likely another DeLorean with no service or parts other than scraps in 5-10 years. Other than a fun disposable toy for the rich...nope!
You raise some good points. They did state a guaranteed buy back program but what happens when or if the company folds? Unless the EV-exclusive parts are “universal” in nature and can be sourced from other parts supplier manufacturers, owners may be out of luck
The front grill, looks OK, not as good as the original, the rear end of this car just looks like hot garbage though. It looks like it suffers from the same rear design (or lack thereof that a stock Polaris slingshot suffers from; it looks like the design team got burned out and just slapped something together on the back of the vehicle. Asking price of $300K? No, heck no, hard pass. That's way to expensive for a microwave on wheels with a hint of nostalgia. Needs an LS swap and a good 6-spd manual with the original front grill and rear end.
The original delorean design is overrated. It's a very plain looking car objectively. It being in back to the future boosted its appeal. The other new delorean looks better than this and the old delorean. The one they showed off in concept form.
as we just see a Rendering .... NOTHING to get excited about. It's just another Attention Seeking Clickbait for this Company. I will believe it, when the first one hits the Road. Otherwise.... Go ahead, make my day.
