I haven't seen that level of economy in a RWD model. More like 26 at best on the highway, 23 - 24 in town. Are your results from babying it on the highway? What are you getting in town?

@robs85gmc Год назад
@@johnadcock6852 I don’t really worry about fuel economy but my best reported economy was 34.3 and I was averaging 70 on the freeway mostly because of traffic. If I just drive normally not too aggressive I usually see 27-29 on trips around town. If it’s a very short trip with lots of stop and go it might only be 11-15. My other truck is pushing 700hp so I am pretty gentle on the throttle with this one, all the torque is down low anyway.

I have a 23 GMC 3.0 with max tow. It has 3.73 gears, bigger radiator and alternator. With the 3.73 gears and A10 combo it’s a beast. The 15’ GMC 6.2 had to run the RPMs up and struggled a bit pulling my inclosed trailer up the hill by my house. The LZ0 with max tow does not struggle at all.
@brandedmcgowan9414

GM unfortunately doesn't put aggressive gearing in the 6.2 V8 to give it the low end grunt it needed, I believe the 3.42 is the max gear they put in with the 6.2, a 3.73 is needed for that engine in order to get the job done, good thing RAM gets the 3.92 gearing with the 5.7 HEMI that can pull like a semi.

I looked at a newer Silverado with the 3.0 Duramax back in August as a replacement for my 2020 Silverado when its' original lease was up. But the only one our local dealer had on the lot was going for $80K which was way out of my budget. So we decided to just continue paying on my 2020 Silverado with the Turbo-4 in it. I like how it drives and it's done what we want without issues. When we have it loaded down with soggy decaying wood chips in the summer it doesn't even feel like there's anything in the bed. Since the 3.0 Duramax uses the same wimpy PF66 oil filter as my Turbo-4 I bought the upgraded PPE filter for it and some AMOSOIL Signature a few days ago to do an early oil change for the winter. I just need the time to get around to it before the weather gets too bad. :)

On another video by another RU-vid author he highlighted that at or 100K mikes the transmission would have to be removed to check a belt that is on the back of the engine. He also denoted that the 3.0 had concerns with the rear main seal was reported to be a constant leaking problem. Also he said the engine was having reported long cranking times to start the engine. I value your topic in this video identifying the new pistons. BHH
@DemonWorks
@DemonWorks Год назад
There’s no checking the belt, it’s 150k, you replace it and yes the transmission is removed or pulled back for that. The 23 trucks go to 200k for that. The rear main issue was a small number of vehicles and was a casting issue. Seems to be resolved now. The crank no start is a programming/reluctor issue and has been resolved for 99% of the trucks with just a reflash.

Can anyone give examples of their payload rating on this configuration? We all know by now how shady ALL the truck manufacturers are when it comes to payload, it's infuriating. I have put 94,000 miles on my LM2 3.0 Silverado. Engine is great but the emissions system has been very problematic. After 6 visits to the dealer and it going into limp mode many times they replaced the entire def tank. The ultrasonic sensor was failing that monitors the def fluid. They had it almost 8 weeks. Great video . . I'm glad all those changes took place. I have a question for you about the regeneration system on the 3.0 Duramax engines . . . I drove a new diesel school bus ( 17 years ago now ) which had obviously a different diesel engine, but the "regen" system would come on at least once a day, sometimes twice !!! When it was on, we were told NOT to turn the engine off - driving down the road was fine. Many times for me, it would be on when I got back to the lot and wanted to turn it off !!! Do these new diesel engines have a different way of doing the regen cycle ? MAINLY, not as often as back when I drove one ? I'm thinking about buying a new Yukon diesel, but I do mostly short trips around town - five miles or less - and I'm concerned about getting to the store or in the parking garage at the doctors office I go to monthly and having to wait until it stops "regenning". You said the Yukons don't have the LZ0 engines yet, but I might order a 2024, which could have it - either engine will still have to do the regeneration, anyway.

Hey. I am a truck driver, so I am familiar with newer diesels. I drive a 2023 Cascadia. I am sure the 3.0 works similar or even better, since all new technologies are tested on pickups, before they work themselves to the big boys. Diesels don't like short trips, or idling very much, but you should be fine. Even if you get home or to the store and it needs to regen, it should not take that long to complete the process. It is not as cumbersome as previous engines. The technology has gotten a lot better. I would really like to get a 2024 Yukon XL Denali. Let's see if I can get approved lol. Cheers.

Looking at buying a new truck. I found your channel because I’m considering ordering an LZO. Also considering a 6.2 and a 3.5 Ecoboost. Currently I have a 2019 3.5 Ecoboost and it’s been a good truck. However all of the issues you hear about Fords warranty issues I’m exploring my options. I like what I hear about the new LZO except for one thing. Oil consumption. My question is are these really the oil burners I’ve read about? I also read under normal conditions GM considers 1 quart every 2k miles as normal. Tow with it and it’s consumption doubles. Have you seen this? Obviously your an LZO guy but I also read a lot of ugly things about 6.2 failures and AFM. Just looking for your input on the oil consumption. Other than this it looks like the 3.0 may be the best engine GM is offering in their 1500’s. Thanks for the videos. Look forward to your thoughts.

Hey, welcome to the channel ! I love my LZ0, I did have 3 LM2's prior and the only reason for replacing those was taking advantage of the market and upgrading each time.... My LZ0 did experience oil consumption in the first 3000 miles but the next 2700 have shown a half quart consumption so it's all good ! The 6.2 is an amazing engine and if I didn't get this 3.0, I would be in a 6.2 for sure ! Yes, they have lifter issues, potentially. I am a GM tech so I see that and to be honest it's not every single 6.2 will have the issue... some do, many don't but we just hear about the problems, not the good ones. You won't be disappointed in either choice, report back when you do get something and/or if you have any more questions.

I've had 4 diesel trucks and also currently own a 2019 3.5 ecoboost f150. One of the guys I work with just bought an LZ0 duramax and I was impressed with it. It is almost as satisfying as the 3.5 ecoboost to drive. He's getting 26mpg. I get 20mpg. Both engines are excellent at towing. The 2nd gen 3.5 ecoboost has cam phaser issues. Ford's most recent update to the phaser design finally fixed the issue. If you have cam phasers from before January 2022, there's a good chance they'll go bad before you hit 150k miles. Mine will likely need phasers out of warranty and I've already accepted it and will address it when/if needed. Other than that, the 2nd gen 3.5 has proven to be a solid engine. They make huge power with tuning and have no emissions BS to worry about. The 3.5 didn't even have EGR until the 2021 model year. I'm not selling or trading in my f150 any time soon. If I had to replace my truck, I'd be looking for another 3.5 ecoboost f150 or an LZ0 duramax. It would boil down to which one I could get a better deal on.

Hp is a result of more torque at a higher rpm. If you have 1000lbft@1313rpm is 250hp 1000lbft@2626rpm is 500hp 1000lbft@3939rpm is 750hp 1000lbft@5252rpm is 1000hp. It's just an equation for the amount of work done in a given time. 1000lbft is a 1000lbft. Doing the same amount of work 4 times faster 1313rpm vs 5252rpm. Same could be said for a 250hp@5252rpm engine. It would do a 250lbft load at 4 times the speed as the 1000lbft motor at 1313rpm. In the end the same mount of work gets done in the same time frame. The 3.5EB with 375hp@5000rpm(393lbft) is the same strength as the GM 6.2 with 420hp@5600(393lbft). Torque is what does the work(force) hp is how fast that amount t of work gets done.

@codered9576
@codered9576 Год назад
I heard the same thing also. When you're that high up in numbers an extra 28 HP and 35 pounds of torque isn't really going to be noticeable at all, maybe if you're towing at full capacity but as a daily driver you're not going to really notice anything. They changed a few parts to different materials but basically the engine is the same,I think it's more of a selling point.
@Jay-me7gw
@Jay-me7gw Год назад
Probably because, when you have 460 ft-lbs @ 1500 rpm, your don't really get into the rpm region where the extra torque helps out in normal driving. They are only adding 35 ft-lbs and its slowly ramped in from 1500 rpm to 2750 rpm. So unless you are closer to 2750 rpm a lot, you simply wont feel a difference, and even then its not huge. At 2250 rpm theres only going to be maybe a 20 ft-lb difference which you would barely feel. Where I bet you feel it is with a trailer hooked up pulling a grade. And the difference will grow the higher you are above 2750 rpm where the torque curve was stretched to make the extra 28 hp.

I noticed that the MY24 Silverado Duramax diesel supplement was available online and I was looking through it. For whatever it may be worth, they noted again two different I6 Duramax engines available, the LM2 for the SUV and the LZ0 for the trucks. This can also be found in the VIN, with the SUV and LM2 getting a T in the VIN and the LZ0 pickup getting an 8. I was expecting LZ0 for MY24 SUV's as well but I suspect this is not a misprint by GM.

Why would they not change the oil pump drive belt lifespan on both engines if the P/N is the same especially since the oil pump output pressures are lower on the LM2?
@DemonWorks
@DemonWorks Год назад
Likely because the prior engine already was already done and they would have to redo owners manuals and what not. Extra effort…
@kaivonmortazavi8656
@kaivonmortazavi8656 Год назад
Most likely its due to changes to engine cooling. From my manufacturing past, if its the same P/N then it has to be exactly the same part. Most likly the LM2 has a longer life cycle than advertised but GM is probably hedging their bets with this first generation 3.0 LM2.

Thank you for another educational video - learning a lot. I was wandering if you could elaborate on the increased DEF consumption. You went from X gallons per X miles on your LM2 to what gallons on the same number of miles. Can you give an indication on increased consumption? I have an 03 Tahoe on order but have been on the fence about cancelling and waiting for the 04 in hopes that they will offer the LZO then. Not sure if the changes are significant enough or worth it to wait and most likely end up paying an extra few thousand on the 24 model or if I will even like the refreshed…..Just cant decide.
@Jay-me7gw
@Jay-me7gw Год назад
My understanding was that the 2023 LM2 in the SUV's does get an increase to the 200k interval. Whether or not they will retroactively increase the 2019-2022 truck is another story.
@DemonWorks
@DemonWorks Год назад
@@Jay-me7gw correct for the 23 lm2, I don’t see it being retroactive. Not that it matters though, as none will be in warranty so the owner can make the decision to drive longer if they wanted.

Does the Lz0 consume oil like folks say?
@DemonWorks
@DemonWorks 4 месяца назад
It's no different than the LM2, in my opinion. Some do, most don't. I think a lot of people just don't know how to read the dipstick properly, to be honest. The other part is if you work the engine real hard, they will use oil, by design.

Let me just say, my mileage being better in those other trucks was based off the “best” in the system. My 22.5 and 23 have a different daily drive and use. So I can only really compare those two at this time.

Have you heard about the GM APPTOVED use of HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION in the LMO ? What's going on, GM? Can't you build an engine that doesn't use oil?
@DemonWorks
@DemonWorks Год назад
Gm has always had that number for oil consumption, in all of the engines. Under normal use, you shouldn’t use very much at all. Under high rpm and towing, it will use some oil and that’s where the numbers really come into play.

I just sold a car to somebody recently had had to buy a new short block from Ford for his 3.5 too within months of the warranty expiring. Then you have that garbage 5.4 they made and the transmissions behind them and the Rams blowing head gaskets and oil pumps and electrical issues.
