Keith, The last place on RU-vid I expected to see a new tool was this channel. 😉😉😂 It is good news to learn someone is starting a new tool manufacturer in the USA.

The fact that AmeriBrade is providing a Baldor motor on their products tells you much about their integrity. Few, and I do mean few...products worth a hoot come with good high quality electric motors. USA made has a completely different outlook when you compare to the imported products we have been subjected to over the past 30 years. It simply makes much more sense to save up a little longer and get the good stuff made here in the USA and only the good stuff made here in the USA. That is one fine machine !

I have always wanted one of these belt/knife grinders. RU-vidr (Jer Schmidt) built one of these (sells the plans as well). What a beast it is, and I considered buying the plans for it...but I don't have any of the equipment to make it (and no budget for those tools at the moment). I think the build cost was still close to $1000 because it had the VFD and the big motor. After looking at the cost of this Ameribrade I decided I really don't need one. LOL.
@Garth2011
@Garth2011 Месяц назад
The Baldor motor is a huge cost however, if you have any sense of how well a quality motor provides smooth and efficient power delivery, they are well worth the cost. Literally as a hobby shop use, likely something that will last a lifetime.
@I_Am_Your_Problem
@I_Am_Your_Problem Месяц назад
@@Garth2011 Motor makes zero difference. The OP reference to VFD provides far more functionality than an over priced motor. Jer's functionality dwarfs this junk.
@Garth2011
@Garth2011 Месяц назад
@@I_Am_Your_Problem I disagree. Cheap Chinesium motors are not refined and smooth like a Baldor. If you have ever had one or experienced a Baldor, you would know this. Its not for everyone and neither is this AmeriBrade product. Its pricey for a reason, its engineered very good, sturdy and so forth to last and provide excellent service. Been there and done that with cheaper motors so it depends on your personal needs of approval. Its not for everyone but the bottom line is, Baldor will out last and provide smoother results than 95% of the motors in the market. Do some homework but first, get some experience as this is a custom made product vs. mass Chinesium. When you have a commercial need for dependable items to avoid loss of productivity in a shop it pays to have the good stuff. Jet is above average, I wouldn't complain.
@WreckDiver99
@WreckDiver99 Месяц назад
@@Garth2011 Oh no doubt, I totally agree. Fact is, I just can't pull that trigger. Heck, I was just forced to replace my NAS for our home network and that just about killed me, and that cost was less than what the cheapest of these things cost. LOL... 100% I will be looking at these if suddenly a chunk of $$$ to spend however I want comes around. LOL.
@Garth2011
@Garth2011 Месяц назад
@@WreckDiver99 I'm pretty sure the Baldor cost is about $800 to $1,000 compared to others that would be $400 or so. They also use WEG motors according to some of their videos. I wish they would elaborate on the matter, why Baldor vs. Marathon etc.

Great to see you supporting and promoting a US based manufacturer. While it does look to be well designed and manufactured this one is up at the top end of the price range and even the starter pack is more than most of us hobbyists would spend for a sander/grinder. The current price of the mastery package shown here is in the neighborhood of a used Bridgeport in good shape with tooling and DRO.

Yep I love mine, use it all the time. One note; turn the speed down when using small wheels, especially real small ones. Some smart person can calc the RPM of a 1/4" wheel at 6000 SFPM, but let's just say it's faster than those little bearings can take (for long). Small-wheel adapter is the main reason for variable speed IMHO. If you want to save money, you can skip the VFD, use a 1-ph motor, As long as you don't use wheels smaller than say 2". Once you've experienced a good VFD though, you won't go back.
@Garth2011
@Garth2011 Месяц назад
Agreed...just this demo tells me the VFD is a must, soft start, brake assisted stop, smooth power delivery, low electrical frequency noise and reverse controlling that beautiful Baldor motor is pretty much the best of the best.

@bulgieR 6000sf/m = 72000 surf in/min. Circumference of 1/4in roller = 0.7854in. 72000/0,7854=91673rpm. I think your advice to slow the belt speed is sound and should definitely be taken seriously.

Nice piece of kit. I would like to see at least a red dust cover over the on/off switch instead of black one. There are expensively learned reasons why industrial equipment has a Big Red stop button and why power loss requires you to restart the machine.
