Marathon has lore that rewards you for studying it. It's pretty clever to pull off games like they did. I tried to hurry and make a video because not many people have a strong understanding of the Marathon trilogy so I wanted to point people in the right direction. There is still a ton of information in the arg that needs to be analyzed.
@@Jeoku well im here for it! That is one thing i admire about bungie is their writing and storytelling, it is very immersive and complex but tends to connect very well in the end.
Dude I’m hype for this game for no reason. Probably cause it’s a old IP open for a new group and the lore relate to it is crazy or that fact that it can open me to the idea of the extraction shoot.
@mightquinnable there is people who will say the exact same thing that don't like the idea for this new game. It's just whatever fits you. I think this game has potential and could be pretty good
Myth came before Halo, not Marathon. Otherwise, thanks for the video! Marathon Eternal was my favourite (fanmade) sequel to Marathon Infinity. I particularly liked the explanation of the pattern buffers in an earlier build. But the author told me that she found it perhaps too word-heavy for the terminals, and removed it.
As a bungie fan from the old mac days, the idea of a multiplayer-only extraction shooter made 22 years after the last game by almost all different people sounds incredibly lame. All that talk of making the graphics last along time means it will be full of microtransactions. Just seems like IP mining to me, not a genuine sequel. Thanks for the breakdown vid though.
Yeah, there are reasons to be cautious. They are now working with Sony and that is new for them. I am not sure which ways Sony will push the. We will see.
Well, I suppose I am glad someone is more positive than I. Merely hearing "extraction shooter" sent me off the deep end. The art style is interesting on its own merit, even if it didn't feel Marathon to me. Craig Mullins' style is always where my heart will remain. Wonder how it will pan out. Hunt and Escape from Tarkov would like players to think there is intrigue or mystery involved between their laggy pvp deaths. Destiny 2 couldn't even remember to give the shotgun two barrels, so wouldn't that be a surprise to see the "human history inspired" shotgun of M2 a genuine return, given the minimalism box guns the trailer shows. Succeed or expire, this new game's announcement has drawn the attention of many to the original trilogy, and especially Aleph One, it seems. I cannot complain about that one bit; it certainly helped awareness for the series better than my 20 years of suggesting the games to people ever could. Thanks for putting out the video.
I doubt we will see the double shotgun but wouldn't that be something. Worst case scenario is we can watch someone else play the game and enjoy the additional lore. I think though that a lot of people are going to enjoy it. We will see.
Your thoughts were a lot kinder than mine. As someone that adored Marathon and Halo, am really getting into Myth, and tried and burned myself out on Destiny, I was hoping Bungie would tell me a story again, and that seems very unlikely given its current vision. I’m sure it’ll play great, though, and seeing an ARG right out of the gate brought back memories of ILB and IRIS. But I just can’t drum up much enthusiasm. It’s like when Dragon Age 2 went full action. It was fun enough, but not what I was looking for.
I feel you. I am not much of a pvp guy, but I think perhaps a coop experience would be pretty fun. It could be something fresh and different. I am not sold that I will like it yet but I want to wait and see and enjoy the journey.
Hey Jeoku. I wondered if you might do a video about the new game. I can't see myself playing it. I've never been into multiplayer. However, I read somewhere about runners will be able to go solo or in groups of 3. So I thought going solo as a runner might be interesting. But I imagine some in game tasks might require 3 runners. I'll certainly be watching when it's released. Maybe some reviews might persuade me to give it a go. I noticed Wipeout on that list of Barrett's top 10 games. When I first saw the trailer of this new Marathon it reminded me of Wipeout's art style by Designer's Republic. In other news, I see Six Days in Fallujah has a release date. It was first announced 14 years ago! Halo sandbox designer Jamie Griesmer is one of the dev team. Or at least he was, that I do know. I don't know if it's single player though.
What exactly are you looking for that's not in this video? We don't know yet how the coop will work. It's too early in development to have a strong idea of a lot of things.
