Welcome to my RU-vid Channel! The focus of this channel right now is developing in-depth playthroughs of pre-Halo Bungie games. These playthroughs go deep into the lore, strategies, easter eggs, and so on within the games.
Games that are covered so far include: Gnop, Minotaur: Labyrinth of Crete, Operation Desert Storm, Pathways Into Darkness, and Myth. Marathon is currently ongoing. Oni is planned to be next, although the new Marathon game that is coming out might change plans.

I think the Total Codex is the one thing I feel the most polarized by in Myth. I wrote up a ton of stuff, but I figure posting a biography in a youtube comment is pointless so deleted it. I'll just say that the more I think about it, the more I didn't like it's usage in the story beyond how they connected the Mykridia from the first game into the second. I also question how useful knowing the fate of things is to enemy or ally. If fate is involved, doesn't that mean that everything is just pre-determined and knowing how things end up would be pointless? It's even said in a later mission 'Fate alone kept him from getting a 60 year head start on us.' in reference to the summoner not yet being born. So what's the danger in them owning the total Codex if Fate would've kept them from using the knowledge anyway? Hell it was probably fated that the legion gets the book so it really deflates the book's value. I don't mean to be such a downer because I do really like how they connected the Mykridia from the first game and it wasn't just some random mention. I just don't like how much emphasis is put on it's importance while its usage is questionable. Plus I really don't like Fate. It makes the struggle meaningless since everything is pre-determined.
I know some believe that games should only have one difficulty, but I think Myth proves that wrong. I feel like some modern games have ruined having extra difficulties. Most of the time it's just 'more enemies' or 'more hp and damage'. Meanwhile, Myth difficulties they straight up add/subtract elements from the map. Myth is so damn awesome.
I'm just now playing this mod and while I think the raw gameplay for most of these missions is really fun and several of the new units are great! But the mission design and overarching plot and story presentation are painful. This mission and the last one I really did not like. Thank you for posting your vid though because it helped me since I did not know you actually were supposed to let your blue ally units completely die off. I was just nuking the trolls completely and the ally units would just kill my guys. Seems silly to get mad at a guy for bunching trolls up and then nuking them and not at all letting you get hurt, but what do I know?
Rewatching this and I dunno how I missed the film at the end where he took no damage. I've watched this whole series and somehow that end part completely slipped my mind previously. I really didn't think it would be possible because of the shade. I see now that you can exploit enemy leashing though.
This mission is the one the got me hooked all those years ago. Kid me just absolutely delighted in the wight explosions. Hell, adult me still cant help but appreciate a nice wight chain reaction.
The ghols that come up from the bridge area towards the end of the level serve a specific purpose. On one of my many playthroughs of this level, I decided to try a "clever" tactic to breeze through the end sequence quicker. I left a few clusters of a pair of archers scattered from the bridge to the area where you aggro the army. The idea being that the wights don't like to get close to archers. This way, I could run my guys back to the bridge without actually having to fight my way through the wights. Those ghols are there to screw you over if you try this approach. They easily cut down a few scattered archers.
Honestly, I think this is one of the worst myth levels. Maybe even the worst. I would rather play ambush at devil's overlook... I will note though, that this is coming from the perspective of a guy that doesn't like to save scum, drop below 1x time compression or pause to give orders. This level just doesn't give you the tools you need to do it well without doing a bunch of that sort of BS. That asmodeus run, as presented, is definitely not 'no damage'. It might be that it's an issue with playing back ancient recordings in a more modern version of myth though. I do want to give him the benefit of the doubt, because it's an otherwise exceptional run, but I just can't be sure.
Well I don't think Bungie made this level with expectation that everyone would be playing it on legendary. I think you can save yourself a lot of save scumming on normal difficulty. I can understand your perspective.
It's been so long i forgot you didn't finish this game yet. Welcome back from Hawaii. And... your wife? Congrats (if your marriage is ancient old news that you just haven't let us be privy to now, then it's a very belated congratulations). This map... it's so weird and sprawling. It shouldn't be surprising that there were bigger plans for this map that got chucked onto the cutting room floor, but that makes it make so much more sense now. Well, not really, because we don't know that much of the specifics of what was cut, leaving this gigantic mass of confusing... nothing. The alien weapon can be found here first? I thought that would get held off until we meet some enforcers way later when we board the boomer and see durandal's... renovations that I'll say are "divisive" (i mean, that one guy that's literally colorblind doesn't mind the textures. Not making that up. I think it's durandal (the user) on the story forum)
Our anniversary is in October! We can only wonder about what was fully planned for this level. It is still a good level to challenge your sense of direction!
Did anyone else play online? Our crew KotRt used to call the demo servers our home, but played in tournaments with SaO... ive always wondered if there was anyone left out there?

This level is really unfair and tedious from a modern game design standpoint. Starting with the fact that if you die, you don't restart the beginning of the level, but you start at the save spot in the previous level which is nowhere near the exit so you have to run through that level just to replay the final level. Not letting you save at the beginning of the level or at least right next to the exit of the previous level was a big oversight. It's not like you can really return to the beginning of the level unless you screw up the final jump. I hate that you are fighting most of the enemies in the dark in an open room. Not impossible or too hard, but very annoying. And then there is the part where you have to run through the lava without knowing what the path is. You have to hope you didn't lose too much health from grenade splash damage before attempting it. It's tedious having to replay the whole level over and over just because you die going in blind into the lava section. They really should have added a check point somewhere or at least a level 1 recharge station next to the lava to give you a fighting chance. Even if it wasn't lava, it would still be a tough fight with all the enemies right on top of your head. The level itself isn't very hard, but the lava section is so unfair, I lost count from the number of times I died in that section. And then you just get tired of fighting the same fights from the parts you've completed over and over again.
Good points. There are definitely a few level design flaws with this one. There are some parts of the level which I like on the most part also. The level doesn't take super long to get through which helps but for harder difficulties it can definately take a bit longer. I think the key is to know which way to go to get through the lava and then make sure the troopers in the room before don't hurt you too much.
This man right here Jake sent me here. I forgot about Stubbs the Zombie. I didn't know Alex worked on it. Alex looks like an older version of Ian Hecox from Smosh. Definitely going to check out his Fourth Curtain podcast and check out your Marathon videos. My goodness there's a lot on your channel.
@@Jeoku The fourthcurtain link gives a 404. I think it's because it has 2 periods at the end. I started listening to the early episodes but forgot about it until this reminder. I should of clicked subscribe.
That hot dog spot is down the street from Bungie North. I stopped there after taking that pic of CE outside the building for them. Told the guys with me about the lightening lol. Glad youre okay Alex!
Thank you for these reviews. It's like Alex mentioned - there are a lot of successful people in the industry that hardly get interviewed. I hope we will get to listen to some other great guys on your channel in the future. Wish you best.
