The McLaren Artura is the brand's first plug-in hybrid supercar. Styling wise it looks very familiar but how does this new hybrid system change the characteristics of the car? And will the new hybrid system be reliable?

As a McLaren 570 owner I’m disappointed that yet again the factory are pushing out cars to the press fleet that aren’t 100% fettled and ready for the onerous testing that so obviously awaits… issues with software really are unacceptable on IRIS after 10 years evolution🤔… none of this helps the “cars are fragile” reputation of McLaren within the YT and SM community.

Painfully reminiscent ill-practices of another British Sportscar manufacturer, that paid the ultimate price of their recklessness... they no longer exist, sadly... A once respected manufacturer with proper British heritage, a company sized just right, just enough to still be in touch with their prospective buyers and enthusiasts, and owners on a personal level that owning one meant like it or not you bought into an actual family and friends; part of the allure for most buyers. Owning one put you closely in touch with anyone from the company, a long lost practice, or rather i should say reality of Manufacturers like Ferrari and Lamborghini, Porsche even. Something about British made exotica that are unique enough to appeal to a very particular set of folks and enough to keep the money coming in just enough to continue its hand made construction. British built sports cars like Lotus, McLaren, TVR, Noble, etc are as delicate financially as they are constructed. Unique as they are meant to be, attracting customers who desire something different than the usual Italian or German offerings. Jonathan - I am referring to TVR by the way. The ill practices I keep hearing and reading about from owners of McLaren are becoming undeniably frequent and were the same practices that eventually killed TVR.

Terrible for Mclaren to launch a car in those conditions. The car was a mess in terms of reliability and it seems 2 units caught fire (that's what happens when you layoff half of your workforce). Please Mclaren fix the car before you start delivering them to the owners, your future as a car manufacturer depends on it.

@@ChR0nos_7734 The important difference: The 911 is 1 iconic model of a otherwise very diverse lineup! McLarens models are - except for some limited halo projects - basically indistinguishable for the average bystander. Is it some 6xx, 7xx, 5xx?! Which model year?! In addition even powertrain etc. are repetitive. A Ferrari is always a Ferrari, but they have multiple clearly distinguishable models, and constantly reinvent their design language.

I like this new breed of 6 cylinder PHEV supercars, and I can appreciate the Artura is not as fast as the 296 and that's fine. I feel that abandoning the alphanumeric scheme right when it's finally something everyone is used to is confusing and opening themselves up to criticism. It's hard to tell where this car stands in the lineup so if its performance doesn't match superior competition, people will criticize it because they don't understand where it is in the lineup. I worry it'll do more to hurt the brand than help it.

If I had mad money, I would buy one, but not until its 2nd or 3rd year of production. The reasons are obvious: There remains are too many software and related issues to sort out. It's funny how everyone was writing off the new NSX hybrid when it came out. And now all the big players like Ferrari McLean soon Porsche and Lambo are doing tje same. The biggest problem everyone had with the NSX was the price (gen 1 nsx was half price of a 355) . And now as before it's 90 % of the performance for 50% of the price! If NSX would be released now it would sell way better then it did originally. For my noney I can live with less power then 296 and better reliability then the McLean. Again NSX is a thinking men's suoercar with a hybrid power train.

McLaren have no idea what they are doing. Remember the brilliant aluminium Jaguar XJ that looked . . .like the old XJ. I remember thinking at the Sydney motor-show - Jaguar are in trouble when their new flagship car is less exciting than the new Volvo - the X90 in that case. Where's the "Wow" McLaren? The pizazz? The glamour? You are selling cars not playing with your phones.

I don't have any trust in McLaren Artura... anymore. Announced in March, 2021, was told will get customer cars by July, then Sep, then Nov, then nothing. And suddenly track-day event for McLaren customers out of the blue in July, and cars will start delivery in Sep... of course delayed to "by October". Early vehicles were produced a year ago and sat in the lot "waiting for software update". These all points to serious issues with the vehicle, not chip shortage or just "software issues". Thermal management sometimes can be mitigated with new algorithm, but if it wasn't designed correctly in the first place hardware-wise, no updates will help. And with press drive ended up with fire and smoke.... nah.

Hybrid supercars are fine, but turbo supercars just make no sense-- if you're buying a turbocharged car as an enthusiast, the turbo is a HUGE part of the experience. That's why we love blow off valves so much (or the lack of one, respectively). Supercars are about drama-- if you're buying one, chances are you want either a sky-high rev limit and a lotta music coming out the back, or you want something like a 930 which is all lag, then ALL the torque in the world. These modern supercars are just fast-- they make zero noise and they're too insulated. Call me crazy, but I'd honestly rather have a hot hatch and a TON of cash in my pocket over one of these.

McLaren's mistake was to go with a V6. That type of engine is in no way prestigious or impressive. They should have bitten the bullet and designed a clean-sheet straight 6. Automakers in the early part of the last century knew the straight 6 was superior in reliability and smoothness. With modern turbo-supercharging, it's the equivalent of a N/A V12. Oh well, what could have been.

New McLaren looks similar to old McLaren shocker! So the Porsche 992 911 looks fresh? The 296 doesn't look a bit like old ferraris? And what a silly title. Let's all ignore the Ferraris that catch fire and the Porsches with chocolate engines and continue to beat up on McLaren. All these youtube reviews continuing to play to rhe gallery. SMH.

2:11 Come on Henry! You should know that with the electric mode consumption of that thing being waaayyy worse than pure EVs even, it's obviously much higher in total emissions than the average car running on pure fossil fuels! Especially when you divide the battery and other EV junk's manufacturing emissions over those very few miles a supercar is driven! My PHEVs have wasted electricity like no tomorrow for many reasons compared to pure EVs. Please everyone stop using the disinformation&propaganda term _"Zero Emissions"_ !! It's a huge lie and purposefully used to spread corruption!

75 000 km warrarnty is a joke! A deal breaker! It is total disrespect of customers! McLaren has so little trust in it's product, which has bad reputation already for poor reliability! Ferarri gives 3 year unlimited milage warranty (extendable to 5 years).

Porsche is the only Manufacturer that should be allowed to sale a 6 Cylinder vehicle for over 200k. You expect that because that’s who Porsche is. McLaren and Ferrari? Not so much .

test drove them both (100km)…can't really compare as these are 2 different classes; however the Ferrari is considerably superior most notably ride quality off the track. Worth the extra bucks if you can find one. if affordable.

The interior is dreadful. No other way to put it. Absolutely dreadful. I’d rather stare at a concrete wall than look at that stupid central screen or the dumb stuck on instrument cluster every time I get into the car. Great video like always

For the design.... I feel Mclaren should move on from the melted plastic look. They look nice. But not amazing. Get more angular. Seems like a brilliant car tho.

People are going to think i'm crazy? I like that electric whine. Also, their cars are to familiar, in my opinion? Looks a little plain from the side. This car needs some ugly added in? Block the front or fake duct up the rear? A cool design that's simply, plain. Lastly, how are you sitting so low in such a small car?
