You could by a new Fiesta for £9k 10 years ago. It now starts from just over £19k. It's all part of getting people to buy things on a subscription model.
@@johnblaze8774 No, it is not. Inflation and more features in new cars means a bigger price. A new Fiesta now is also lot better than a new Fiesta 10 years ago.
@K no it's the manufacturers , during COVID there was chip shortage and the US Vs China issue made it worse and everything was bottle necked due to one company who were told not to sell to China etc so technically it's the operational issue and US is to blame lol
@K ..but VW still sell a 2023 R Line model with an analogue cockpit dashboard ...whilst their 2017-2019 models have the full virtual dashboards. Also there are hardly near as many new cars on sale in the market compared to 3/4 years ago. Also EV are useless for those who do very long commutes (I'm speaking from Europe) and yes average new car price is around 50k but the quality of cars is worse. Yes everyone does want the features but average Joe is taking away the pleasure of driving.
When will Autotrader be reviewing the Nio ET7? It has already won a bunch of awards in Germany. Get Rory to review it, he has already expressed skepticism regarding battery swapping, so it'd be interesting to see if it changes his mind. Also apparently damage to batteries has been leading to insurance companies completely writing off cars, battery swapping avoids that issue.
imagine not being able to use the smartphone while driving because it is dangerous, and then the car has 4 massive screens where you actively have to distract yourself just to turn on the heating. I don't like this trend, it looks cool, but it's just stupid
Alex. Thank You. Love your reviews! You said it... 100 grand plus! Obscene! Said it before, ( so called) " prestige" brands like Mercedes Benz and Audi, only for the very wealthy or business use. Time for a " average" EV. Thank you again Alex.
I just really, really don't like the modern Mercedes interior design with its car wide fingerprint and dust magnet. Audi had vast areas of gloss as well, but they thankfully came to their senses. Let's hope Mercedes does too, but the main driver for abandoning buttons is cost so I don't see this happen any time soon, and it's partially a matter of taste.
$8,000 for the optional "dash screen". I'm just thinking down the line, many years later after the initial leasers, then the 2nd owners and down to the 3rd owners when it's 7-10 years old, the cost to own, maintain and repair these things are going to be crazy.
She clearly said it's a 1k option, not 8k. Also, they are screens 🙄. Unlike buttons, screens don't have any moving parts and therefore are a lot less likely to fail than buttons. Also, people who will buy this car, certainly don't care about maintenance fees.
@NickZ At 2m 50s she clearly said its a $8000 option on the lower spec cars. That gives you close to the unit price of that screen. Also, I clearly said the 3rd owners down-the-line, who will care about maintenance fees. The likely 1st owners will be leasing, under warranty, so of course they're not going to care.
Thanks for keeping price in mind, a few 'bling' factors shouldn't distract from the daylight robbery that is this car. Looks much nicer than the EQC though.
I've been driving an EQE SUV loaner while my EQS SUV gets repaired. Neither one is good with bumpy roads / pot holes. You WILL feel the bumps. The suspension is stiff even in comfort mode! The EQS's massaging seats features a weak massage. So if you're looking for a plush ride and with a good deep quality massage, look elsewhere. Oh, and I was firmly told by Mercedes Benz staff that if I switch the original air suspension to a more plush after-market one, it will void the 4 year warranty.
Why is Mercedes making the electric versions so much smaller? The EQS seems to have similar space to that of an E class. This car looks like it’s GLC sized, not GLE.
Why oh why is Mercedes assigning the exact same names to SUVs and sedans/saloons🙄? EQS is both a sedan/saloon and an SUV; EQE is both a sedan/saloon and an SUV. Makes me very less likely to buy one, for sure. If the EQG is available, I'm getting that one instead, especially seeing how the tank turn on that uberwagen is quite impressive.
I actually like the EQE saloon styling. However, I'm getting bored of all these overpriced heavy electric SUVs. We need affordable, usable and likeable EVs.
The tech is what makes the price so so high, but no one has asked for it. The mercedes interior is fancy and gives a luxiourous experience but I prefer the BMW interior quality. For the price of this car, you can buy 2 2020 models, insane.
Sorry Mercedes, I'm out £90k plus!! I will happily wait for the Chinese SUV's to arrive or just get a Kia EV9 (which is far bigger) at only £60k.. Plus you can bang on about luxury and quality but they are ALL blobby and boring looking.
I’ll buy the Kia EV9 and I’ll be a human being and happy and get most of necessities and comforts. Plus I will not have to go to repairs every 3 months an get a loaner from dealer.
I drove one of the latest MBUX systems with capacitive controls last month (2023 GLA 200). It was the worst interface experience I've ever had. It borders on dangerous because items that should be intuitive or easy are the opposite and require considerable focus to complete. Let's say you want to select a new playlist for a USB-attached device. If you scroll down on the horrid touchpad (what was wrong with the wheel?), then need to focus on the road for more than a few seconds, the entire menu will reset back to the currently-playing track and force you to start the playlist scroll all over from the alphabetical top. In, say, a BMW, it will remain on the playlist selection screen scrolled to where you left off seemingly indefinitely.
This car for that price is outrageous. These manufacturers should really start focusing on something.ore affordable. In case they don't they're dead to me and might as well go bankrupt.
Not only will these depreciate like crazy just for being a Mercedes, but also because it’s now more technology than just a car. Just like an old iPhone, nobody wants old tech when the new model comes out
Too heavy, inefficient over complicated tech and too expensive is this really the future of EVs. Long gone the rugged simplicity of 1970s and 80s mercs.
Want the tech without the bling? Tesla Model Y at half this cost? That's nuts and it has a better supercharger network and also a bigger boot and better tech than this. This is going to compete with the next Porsche Macan electric and Audi Q8 etron. But then again, an iX from BMW is similar cost if a little cheaper, still ugly. An Audi Q4 or a BMW iX3 has similar boot space and despite smaller batteries, has similar range to the EQE SUV. This will be a success to Mercedes and they are taking advantage of the market right now. It's not a game changer but Mercedes is after the money that these big electric SUV's bring in. Good luck to them.
The people buying this will more than likely be buying it because of brand loyalty rather than choosing the car because it is a good option in the segment it’s competing.
I did buy the EQE SUV 500. Tesla Y is a nice toy car (I've driven multiple thousand km's with it) but its nothing close to Mercedes quality. I've also driven S, 3, X and actually owned a S Plaid but sold it. I just feel like this comment section is full of people who simply cannot afford cars like this. I do admit that new electric car price tags are going off the roof but what can you do. It's not like I'm going to sell my Mercedes to drive a KIA.
@@jolob It’s not about being able to afford it, it’s just that this car speaks more about brand preference and brand loyalty than other cars. Ignoring the Tesla which has questionable build quality and doesn’t drive very well; what drew you to the EQE 500? Cause the Audi Q8 e-tron has solid build quality and permissible ride quality. It may not have some of the Mercedes gimmicks but the luxury is there.
@@jolob Good for you to buy this car. It is your choice after all. It was also your choice to buy the Tesla. I'm just making a point here. Some of the journalists that review these cars cannot own them either but they are giving you an honest and fair review of them. I was just saying that Mercedes will be competing in a new market for electric SUV'S along with the BMW iX.
that what happen when everyone jumps in the electric bandwagon without a breakthrough and efficiency technology to make works. it just stay a trend at best atm in lieu of the evolution cars need to be. everything ev these days is just too compromising to run against even a hybrid vehicles particularly in emerging markets and the lack of non premium chep small and medium Ev cars to compare the points.
I won't be excited for an electric vehicle untill I can charge it with the sun. There isn't a power grid on earth that can handle every one driving them.
Power grid’s are changing to meet the change to electric. Don’t measure the infrastructure today with the future demand ! Also, this time of year, most of my EV range comes from my home solar ⚡️☀️👍🏻
Competition is fierce in the EV space? Why? What buyers are all these manufacturers fighting over? At this price point, these kind of buyers can afford one of each. 🙄
EV’s like this are ‘cheap’ to lease through business schemes. I’ve got a £95k BMW iX for £900 per month which includes everything except charging. Can easily afford this, but not the £95k. Our 1,500 space work car park contains mostly EV’s in the £50k-£100k price range. It’s costs more to get a petrol / diesel car on a company scheme, due to the much higher tax on ICE cars, so everyone goes for an EV.
I don't think Mercedes will keep up with this prices! All brands are lowering prices in China because of the competition, and shortly the competition will be worldwide
In Washington metropolitan area, where the newest Mercs and other luxury brands are a common sight, I have yet to see any EQS or other EQ series Mercs. I see plenty of the newest BMWs and Porsche Taycans around but the electrified Mercs are absent from the party. I wonder why…
20 years plus with Mercedes but with the EQ range they have completely lost the plot, it will be their undoing. Also normal cars are so tacky inside. No more mercs for me I’m afraid.
I'm torn between Range Rover, Mercedes and Audi,... I have the money but I just don't know what to go for, my reason being new models are coming almost every year.
Is it correct as is being reported on social media that these EVs are spontaneously combusting causing the loss of at least two cargo ships so far, the last one I believe is still on fire off the coast of the Netherlands. Also that some ferry companies are now banning all EVs because of the possible fire risk,
After 2 minutes I can just say the following: A car manufacturer selling a luxurious, lowrange, EV for 100k literally didn't understand EV's customers. I'm out ...
Auto Trader really should call out the so called high end car manufacturers with their incredible and ridiculous option lists and their BS EV range figures. For £90K plus car, there should be no options available!
Not happy that we are seeing less and less of Rory. Learn from carwow matt was the reason for their success and he's the one that does it. Rory is the reason anyone even came on here and now he's slowly fading. No disrespect to these guys they are decent. But they not Rory
