The new Hyperdontia is my most anticipated June release. I'm surprised to not see it mentioned. Definitely check out Glory and Perdition by Sear Bliss. I think that is their best album.
You talking about Loom makes me want to play through all of the Lucasarts point-n-clicks again. Full Throttle and Day of the Tentacle were some of the first games I ever played!
I don’t know what it is but every pallet cleanser you mention, I love the instrumental, but the vocals always let me down. They’re good, objectively, but when you’ve heard Maiden’s back catalogue forwards and backwards 20 times over, just nothing can top Bruce! I get a lot of it is more 70’s revival rather than 80’s NWOBHM but still 😔
Awesome picks. Definitely going to have to check out some of them. I'm most excited for Alcest this month but I'm also looking forward to the new Darko US (out today Jun. 5; avant-garde deathcore), Iravu / Mumuksu split (this Friday Jun. 7; atmospheric black metal), and Foreign Hands (Jun. 21; metalcore).
Looking forward to D'muata by Perchta out June 14, 2024 on Prophecy, 39 Serpent Power by Rifflord on Ripple out June 21, 2024, Atalanta Fugiens by Camerata Mediolanense (neo folk/post punk) out June 14, 2024 and for next month Boezem by Vuur & Zijde releases July 12, 2024
I'll definitely check out Sear Bliss. I laughed when the fucking trombone came out but it sounds sick as hell. I wish metal bands would experiment with more kinds of instruments. I feel like a lot of genres have kind of just stayed the same and new genres haven't really proliferated.
I hope this is someone's first Metal Monthly video and they think all of them begin with Blayne doing his version of Six Feet Under's version of "Hair of the Dog" by Nazareth.
I know you appear to be not a fan of grove metal (I believe “hate, hate, hate” were your words), but on RU-vid there’s a good EP by Illatria which you might dislike.
Powerviolence is metal in my book. If your criteria for something being metal is that they have to be on Metal Archives then you'd be missing out on lots of great metal bands such as Between The Buried And Me and Periphery.
Lucifers hammer sounds like maiden 40 yrs ago 🤣 Im sure in years we'll still say this sounds like maiden 80 yrs ago.... im amazed thats maiden 2024 😅 Trog sounds sick
Wait, so Lucifer's Hammer is metal, but Groin isn't? Why is Power Violence not metal, especially when they make their own music? As for Lucifer's Hammer, I can hear/understand every word, and if there is distortion, it's minimal. Maybe for Groin, as I was actually paying attention to the video, it's a matter that they just aren't on The Metal Archives database.
Guess I’m more punk than metalhead if Powerviolence and Grindcore aren’t considered Metal. First time in awhile that I’ve been annoyed like that, cool.
Shit, I saw the name Lucifer's Hammer and I thought that my local Michigan ethereal blackened death metal boys were back! No, it's just a Maiden rip-off from somewhere... I don't care where. I've never felt so detached from my favorite music before. I shouldn't be most excited for the Cavalera's to re-record an old Sepultura album, but that's where I'm at. I know I'm old and don't give newer bands a chance, but I don't have the money or space to buy and collect hundreds of Metal albums anymore. I want new innovative and exciting music and bands, and I'm just not hearing it nowadays... and Kerry King Band sure ain't giving that to me.
Genuinely excited for Sear Bliss. They've put out one of my favourite black metal albums, The Arcane Odyssey (2007). I also have to shout out Severe Torture, really excited to see them back!
