I think one reasons State DLC has been so slow to roll out was the huge map rescale they undertook some time back. SCS redesigned practically the entire existing map (even added a city I believe). In hoping that with that huge rescale effort now in the rear view mirror, and with new prefabs added to their roster with each State, the new States will come much quicker in the future. Hopefully SCS can keep up their high quality standard as they go forward.
A few things went on behind the scenes in addition to the *free* rescale. SCS added staff and moved the company to a new office building. With the larger teams hopefully they'll put out 2-4 states per year.
Exactly the rescale was worked on around Arizona was released in June-July 2016 and released December 2016. So NM has been roughly in works for about a year or less. Also their ATS mapping team is small and the quality and detail in the map is really good standard.
I wonder if they have plans on getting another developer in the mix to help push out more states, like Focus or Saber? I doubt it, but it would help out a lot for the game to do well. Texas is the next state, and it is large enough to house Norway, Finland, and most or all of Sweden. In it of itself that could take well over a year to put it in the game at probably $25.
Left Right American Truck Simulator is created by SCS in Europe. They have people studying the united states, designing everything for new states. They're from EU and it takes time to re-create cities that they're not familiar with. Thats all I can assume.
something to think about: total area of United States - 3,797,000 square miles total area of 4 completed states - 509,958 square miles It seems like they are not making progress that fast, because they are doing the some of the larger states first. As we move east, I am sure the DLC will be multiple states at a time. Whether you buy it is up to you, but if you do not; don't complain about the lack of development.
@@BrunoAlexLUX If and when they get to it, Georgia will probably take awhile to make because it's so big. At least IRL. getting from north Georgia to the Florida-Georgia line takes forever in real life.
Great video. Just a couple of pointers: The blue and red “shield” routes are interstates not highways. 25 is typically known as I-25 or Interstate 25 but never Highway 25. Highways are the white “shield” route symbols. Las Cruces sounds like “lass crew sis” ;)
Raton pass is such a pretty drive into Colorado. I wander how they'll do Colorado? its got plains, mountains, lakes, national parks, rabbit ear passes, and canyons and chasms. I would even say its an ok place to Hitchhike to. Although, I've never been to Eastern CO.
I enjoyed your review of new mexico, well balanced review. I for one will buy this. I love ATS and ETS 2. The games are great to relax with, especially when I feel low. And I know they can be slow , but here Is no other truck sim on the market that comes close to this quality.
There are no other Truck Simulators, period, and therein may lie the problem, lack of competition. Companies get real creative and real quick if someone is 'hot on their heels' trying to steal their customers. SCS has no natural predators.
I live in Las Cruces and all the cities that he showed, are almost like the real ones. The "interresting" intersection north of Alamogordo is the worst intersection in that town. :D
So the truckstops you showed from Tucumcari & Clovis? Those are pretty accurate recreations of two unique Love's truckstops in the real towns. That is impressive! The hottest temperature I've ever experienced was in the parking lot of that Clovis truck stop, 114 degrees Fahrenheit, or about 45.5 degrees Celsius.
Just saw a post about your mom Squirrel. Hope it's not true but if it is...sorry to hear that. I hope all is going well for you & the family. That would explain why you haven't posted anything in awhile. Take your time in coming back! Looking forward to the next post when you feel like making one.
I will definitely be getting New Mexico DLC when it comes out tomorrow. I haven't abandoned the game even though I had taken a break from it a few weeks back when I had practically discovered all the cities in California, Nevada and Arizona apart from two. The scenery looks absolutely spectacular. Hopefully we can get the next state out quicker than 16 months. I wonder if they will go with Oregon or Utah next.
It won't take them 16 months for the next expansion. They where working on the map rescale between June 2016 and December 2016. They've only been working on New Mexico since December 2016. It's strongly looking like Oregon's going to be next. In the 1.29 beta, a short road has appeared from Nevada into Oregon. In their latest "Under the Hood" blog post, they're talking about how their expanded team has been able to improve the road signs for New Mexico. One of the pictures includes an exit in Oregon.
I think it's possible that they will do Oregon AND Utah which will make a nice block of states to drive through. Then we will have north, south, east and west compass points to head to. I'm looking forward to September 2018.
X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X i moved on thats for sure, got tired of just waiting mindlessly for updates. Not even new trucks. At least new trucks could have kept the popularity of the game and its fan base. But.... i doubt it have had any changes since.
X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X be purchasing it first thing in the morning. Sure it’s taken a while to get here, but hey no one else is doing this content, so I figure we need to support the developers no matter what. Surely slow development is better than no development for our very niche hobby.
That is extremely cool! I cannot believe the amount of detail. Side note: I actually have family in both Roswell and Las Cruses (aptly pronounced: “lahs crew-sess”). A well-known tourist area is “White Sands”, located to the northeast of Las Cruses. Thanks for the preview!
9:24 Objection. That never takes into account the size differences between states, especially on the east cost. Once (hopefully) SCS gets to those they can pump out 5 or 6 at a time.
What I find humorous is the fact that he points out all the "large" truck stops/travel centers. While they are large in comparison to the rest of the game, they are quite a normal size for a truck stop in real life in the U.S. lol
Okay, now I am 55 and will never see all states I think and have payed a lot of money. but I will have something to do when I am old haha. But for me it looks real nice and I will buy it.
For me i cant wait to have canada..i just wanna do montreal to vancouver like in 18 WoS games..but yeah im 31 so im probably be 60+ when i can maybe do that..
I'm 65 so time is more critical for me, lol. I won't be 'old' for another 10 years, hopefully. Building computers keeps me young so I'll keep playing this awesome game, with a bit of ETS2 thrown in.
Carlsbad,MN is home to the famous Carlsbad Caverns. A very famous cave system. it is near the town and one of the three national parks that are made for caves.
They do need to speed up and they should stop making their DLCs for single states, but rather in packs of 3 or 4 at once. The map already feels rather like a corridor. Less desert would also be nice, considering we have different directions on the map to go. I did pay full price for all DLC so far, but not for this one I think, even if the map quality further improved. Problem might be that they work simultaneously on ETS and ATS expansions... and for most ATS fans more trucks seem to be a far bigger desire.
It depends on the states. Texas will be a single pack, cause that's huge. The New England states in the northeast can be combined together cause they're tiny. It varies from region to region.
It'll take years before they have reached anywhere near the northeast area of the USA. Hopefully they have developed enough assets so they can just copy paste their way through
Dylan Vanden Bosch Point was to focus on single and larger projects to generally speed things up. As it's now, they work an various small projects simultaneously = inefficiently. I'd rather wait longer for a better price/road ratio instead of buying overpriced small packs... That takes time anyway, but would be far more rewarding than these rather small DLC of another desert state... they already made that mistake with the base game having a way too small map... wasting months on rescaling the map afterwards. There you have 3 states redesigned already.
There are so many truck mods out there that are as good as SCS can do and with more configuration options than SCS could ever do. Look at all the truck mods for ETS2, especially the RJL Scania tuning pack. I spent hours just configuring my truck a while ago. SCS made their games modable for a reason.....
Squirrel it isn't gonna take 60 years for every state. It's taken the time it has thus far to create 4 of the 6 largest states in the lower 48 in the USA, that cover the same area as 20 of the smallest. In 2 years time we may have half the lower 48. The breadbasket/midwest states will not take long because there's simply nothing there. The eastern seaboard covers less area than what we have now, and SCS may very well have a larger team by then. If we give ATS the attention it needs it will actually get somewhere. It's stalled for a reason, people haven't played it.
Yes SCS has to speed up the releasing of new content. As you said, its a really nice game, and the completing of all 50 States (Hawaii and Alaska don't count) would take decades at the actual speed.
The new dynamic events are pretty hilarious...one person found a crashed plane in Phoenix (a single engine plane landed on the highway LOL). On just one trip I saw a Walbert truck that had dumped its load all over the highway, and a car that was getting held by the NM State troopers and US Border Patrol.
I have seen this map and it looks amazing, I know it took a bit for them to get it out but it looks well worth the wait. I think everyone is gonna enjoy this new map and alot of players are going to it buy. Hopefully this means more newer contenting coming faster now, and the overall change to the whole game will be awesome.
I think it's a fair price. Why does everyone think US states are the same size?? Would expect smaller states to be bundled together or cheaper. There better be a launderette, chicken shop and car wash in Albuquerque
there are about 10 states that are similar to new mexico, and a bunch more that are still decently large. Let's say (11,99$*10=120$) + (5,99$*20=120$) + some super small ones, we're still looking at around 250$+ in fucking DLC's...
In about 60 years i am probably living my retirement days on Mars, lol! I am definitely getting it tomorrow, or by midnight when it is out! Thanks for the review video, and really enjoyed when you livestreamed it on SNT last Sunday. Squirrel, hope you are enjoying your time in Prague, and will be seeing you in the weekend.
Roswell is very tacky as I recall from 2012, santa fe is a beautiful place and I remember driving through that intersection in albuquerquequequeque ... so I guess I'd better buy this soon after release lol
Who here actually have their CDL? I love driving big vehicles. I love the sound of the engine and ABS. Can you do a pre-trip on this game before taking a load?
A little correction on your pronunciation; - Raton is pronounced Ra-tone - Las Cruces is pronounces Las Crew-sis - Tucumcari is pronounced Two-come-carie - Artesia is pronounced Are-tee-sha As someone born and raised in New Mexico, specifically Albuquerque, I love this DLC. I’ve been trucking around for two days now and all of the detail is crazy! From the Presbyterian and Lovelace Hospitals in Albuquerque to the Rail Runner passing through the intersection of St Francis Dr and Cerillos Rd in Santa Fe, this is great. I can see myself spending more time here in New Mexico than in the other states. Way to go SCS!
1:48/ finally there's more than just desert landscape in this game, I can't wait till they add Oregon, Washington, and Colorado to the game, it will be so pretty.
I like how Squirrel interchanges the names of US Highways and Interstates, and just says Route. Usually if you say Route it is for a US or State Highway, and Interstates aren't really Routes.
Just found one of your videos with face cam and I couldn't believe how old you were! You have the voice of someone in their twenties lol! Won't stop me from enjoying the content though.
Dear Squirrel, I like your videos, especially your comments - it's not a question. :-) As I remember you said one of your last ATS diaries you would like more content, for example new trucks. Harven, a Steam user(?) made a great and excellent work, a Freightliner FLB truck. Have you ever tried it? I found it in the Steam workshop of the ATS. And there are some paint collection for it as well. Those guys made something awesome with this Baby. My favourite lady the W900, but She, the new one, started to take the first place in my heart with her noises. And you can bring your inside view back to the resting place of the cabin. So enjoyable, especially while you driving. You should give a try... Happy Christmas!
People complaining about how long between DLCs, remember they did move offices earlier this year, and they are also a small team, who are actively Mapping Large Parts of both the US and Europe.
One thing I don't like about Sirocco is the traffic at the road where the Rail Export Depot is. You have to wait forever to get in and out of there. All the traffic coming through that road makes it that way.
Hey, please do more ETS2, I remember the old vids, they were so relaxing and entertaining to watch, maybe get a job in Iceland on the hardcore snowy slippery roads :D
You said at the rate SCS is taking to make a state (sixty years for all of the US) to be mapped out. Not bad, I'll only be 109 years old when they finish.
Eh, i bought ATS recently and really quite underwhelmed. Having read a few comments regarding the free rescale etc ill give it a better chance once more states have been added. Currently relying on mods but for the time being, i think ETS will be my jam for a bit.
I remember driving through New Mexico on my way to California from Oklahoma (many many years ago) down I-40 and stopped in Albuquerque to refuel. There was a police chase on foot from that station down the street, with guns ablazing at the end. I remember a person at the pump next to me, seeing my wide-eyed look said, "Welcome to Albuquerque". I'm curious which area they're going to go to next... you can follow I-40 all the way across the country through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennesee, and end at the southern coast of North Carolina in Wilmington from just one interstate highway. There's the I-35 corridor running down the middle of Oklahoma that goes all the way through Texas (and their Cthuluesque tangle of highways that go ridiculously high into the sky), up through Kansas (and the tip of Missouri through Kansas City), through Iowa, straight through Minneapolis and ending at Duluth, Minnesota at Lake Superior. Or if they'll go north of California, taking I-5 into Beautiful Oregon and up into Washington State... trying to fill in the West Coast before moving on into the Central United States (Seattle could be awesome). *Just read Oregon is next? Nice, though Oregon is mainly populated along the coast, with the eastern chunk of the state having a few rural highways and tiny towns... mainly unpopulated. I'm a late comer to this series and am engrossed with it. As someone that's driven through almost every state in the U.S.... it appeals to me greatly.
I've spent more time in Artesia and Roswell than I want to admit. But I did enjoy my stay in NM and the ppl were very nice to me. It look like a good representation of both cities as I saw them 15 years ago. I wish/hope they put Carlsbad Caverns in there. I'm gonna get NM. DLC.
Considering the size of the states, compared to entire countries in ETS2, it would be nice if they released two states as one DLC package at a time, particularly if the environments are similar.
It never took them 16 months to make New Mexico, alot of that time was spent rescaling the original map, so hopefully the next state wont be 16 months down the line, im gonna go for middle of next year
What a great video. Love New Mexico and SCS outdid themselves with the landscaping. Absolute fab. All those details like remains of a blownout tire laying around on the freeways (very America). Love the random events. Man, ATS is so good, imho. Let's hope that they will be able to push out like 2 or even 3 States a year. Time to hit the road again (so addictive), turn on the (Koen's ETS/ATS) radio and have a quick meal at IFLOP (my fav lol).
Few things to say: $12 is not a lot for a dlc like this, IMO Judging by my times in map editor, I’m speculating that Oregon may appear before the summer of 2018 (still a while, but only something like 6 months to wait, which is better than 16) I don’t think SCS should let ATS die. There have been a HUGE amount of delays that have happened between AZ and NM. Those have now been cleared. I’m still going to play the game, because I can.
September 2018 for the release of Oregon and Utah. That's my prediction. Don't make a liar out of me, SCS, you're on notice. I have your back, for now.
5:25 Ay :D i've been there.. The alien thing is definitely a way to hitch tourists which is smart IMO but what ended up drawing me was the excellent local beer called Roswell Alien Amber Ale :D
The should have done Oregon and Washington first, this gives an entrance to Canada as well. That way they could also introduce Alaska and maybe Ice road trucking in northern Canada to keep it more interesting. imo.
There's something similar in ATS already, a pair of lights that act like UFOs. I think I saw them south of Tonopah, NV. You have to go there at night, they disappear in the day time.
The Truck Stops look more realistic a lot more parking I hope at night they make it hard to find a spot to sleep like real until you can not find a spot and have to sleep on a on ramp than get woke up by the Highway Patrol telling you to move lol.
Man I'm just a jealous S.O.B when it comes to people playing this game.it looks so fun. I wish I had a pc. Sooner or later I'm gonna break and buy a gaming pc
Almost makes me want to switch over from ETS 2 (with Promods, Project Balkans, RusMaps and Southern Region). However, it's Las Cruces is pronounced "Las Crew Ses" and Raton is actually pronounced "Rah Tawn". Think the only reason I don't get American Truck Simulator is I do the drives around NM, Nevada and Arizona all the time in my car as it is for decades and I'm kind of tired of driving it. But it sure does look really cool...
If you press "0" on your keyboard (not Numpad) and then use 2, 4, 6, 8 on your Numpad you can fly around. If you do that then hit F9 it will respawn your truck, wherever you are.
So, the base game is "3 State Truck Simulator" now then? Don't think that's going to quite work really, if they're selling a DLC for just one state, then they're probably at the end of their lifespan with ATS already...
*4 states. The current map in ATS is around the same size as ETS2's map when it was first released. ETS2 didn't receive it's first map expansion for around the same time before ATS received this expansion. SCS has already started development on the next state, which is looking like it's going to be Oregon. They're also planning on expanding their map team so that they can eventually work on 2 states at once.
California, Arizona, Nevada, that's 1, 2, 3, three states, New Mexico is a Paid DLC, so, not included in the base purchase... As for ETS2, it was developed, expanded and made into what it is today with far, far fewer paid DLCs than it seems ATS will need, that and the game engine it's based upon (which ATS shares) is getting a bit long in the tooth now and may not even last 'til they have built all the US states for ATS to a level similar to ETS2, so, they best hurry up and get content out, or throw ATS in the bin as a failed project...
