Part 6 of my trip from New Mexico to Canada, and back. 3,300 miles on my 33 year old GoldWing through New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Montana, and Alberta Canada. The trip wraps up with this video, but it's still....A Good Day to Own a GoldWing!

I cannot tell you how much I love this video. I have a 1500 Wing and enjoy travel video's on them. Thank you so much.

Glad you like it! I had a lot of fun on that trip, and a few challenges, and did my best to put something together from the clips that I recorded along the way.

Thanks Allen!! It seems us 1500 owners are getting to be fewer and farther between!! Always good to meet another one!!

Very nice. I just took my GL1800 up to Moab, from Albuquerque then over to Colorado in September. What a great ride.

Still learning how to edit videos, but that sure doesn't affect the great riding we have in this part of the country. Can't wait to get my GS up to Moab and in the Rockies of Colorado next year!! I also live in Albuquerque btw....moved here a little over 3 years ago.

@@twobikesandadrone …. There are fantastic backroads here in NM that you have probably already discovered. But I love riding in Utah, Colorado and Arizona. Any chance I can. Welcome to NM

I’m just back in from my trip from Alberta to Nova Scotia, ferry across to Maine and across the top of the US to Montana and back up into Alberta. A total of 25 days and 13,000 kilometers. I’ve also ridden through NM and AZ on several occasions. Absolutely great country to ride..

@@twobikesandadrone Actually none. Had a couple short rides in the rain. A couple days where it was threatening rain, but the air was cold enough that I put on my rainsuit to keep warmer. Other than that, clear sailing. I missed Laconia bike week by a day or two, but in passing through the region, I found myself riding in groups of a dozen to 20 bikes for various periods of times until people peeled off. I failed to stop at the famed I-80 truck stop as I wanted to be in South Dakota that night. In hindsight, I should have made the time. Otherwise, all good. By the way, and maybe you can relate, I am totally comfortable in my own skin as they say, and have no problems riding by myself. And as you may know, your never really alone. Pretty much at every gas stop, someone will come along, maybe look at your license plate and start up a conversation. It’s all good.

Good series, just finished watching this vid. Thanks for making the vids and posting for us. Such an amazing cruiser and touring bike, the GL1500 is just so ahead of the other bikes in its class. I want to get into Motorcycle camping if I can figure out all of the technical stuff with recording and publishing videos. I'm getting older and the bike is getting heavier so I have been modifying my second bike, 2004 Honda Shadow 1100 sabre, with hard bags, tour pack and a batwing faring. Won't carry as much, will suffer on ride comfort and will never eat up the miles like the Goldwing, but at 600 pounds it is a lot easier on my hips when stopped in traffic.

Thanks for the feedback.....much appreciated! I agree with what a great bike the GoldWing is, but understand if you feel like you need to downgrade to a smaller bike. Hope it all works out well for you!

I have more to add. You mentioned your cruise went out, mine did once and I found the problem was the plug on the right side of the handlebar came unplugged. Plugged it back in and it worked just fine. I hope that was your problem.

I checked that as well, and reseated each of the connectors, and it worked for a little bit during my test ride afterwards, but stopped working again before I got home. I need to get back in there and mess with it again soon!!

I guess I must add a few comments. #1 I have ridden with a man who has a 93 Wing with 387,000 miles on it. I have a 98 Wing that I bought in 2000 so I have had it for 22 years also. You mention the loss of a side panel. When I bought my bike I was told by a GWRRA member to put a belly pan on my bike so your panel does not disappear. He said the wind on the highway blows up under the bike and if your grommets are not tight it can blow the panel off. I have never had that problem but a friend of mine has lost two and he does not have a belly pan. Just thought I would add that info.

Thanks for the reply…..always fun to hear from another GoldWinger! I wonder how many of us actually keep the same Wing for as long as we’ve had ours? Most seem to get newer ones at some point, but we are apparently very satisfied with our 1500s. And for good reason!! I suspect the sidecover problem is a grommet issue that results in the side panels flying off, but who knows for sure! I lost my original one and had to get a replacement….and then I broke off one of the posts taking it off at some point. Every few years it would break off again and I’d JB Weld back on again. This time the post stayed in the grommit but dripped into the frame while I was trying to get it out. 22 years I’ve been doing this and finally lost it 🤣 I rigged up a fix though, so it won’t be flying off anymore!!!

Hey Jim, man you are the ironman. Not sure I could handle a trip like that solo... would much rather be riding with a friend. Also... a 33 year old bike and 170,000 on a trip like that... not me :) I got to have something new. My hats off to you bud, you are true biker. If i ever get out that way I will look you up. You did a good on the editing, your mic crackles a lot, I had the same issue and bought another mic and it fixed the issue. What setup are you using for video and audio?
@twobikesandadrone
@twobikesandadrone 2 года назад
Camera is a GoPro Hero10 with the media mod for external mics. I tried the Purple Panda mic, and a couple others and then went with a Sena mic like the one that came with my 20S. Have them both covered individually with the stock foam cover and then have a furry wind sock over them both.....and I STILL have wind noise issues. That darn Shoei X2 Hornet helmet just lets too much wind in for a mic. Part of the noise issue though is my fault. If I remember to push the mic up to where it's directly in front of my mouth, it seems to work okay. But during this trip I forgot to do that a lot of the times and you can hear the noise. It is a little crazy to take such an old high mileage bike like that on a long trip, but I truly have that much confidence in it. I also have 22 years with it, so there's that. And thanks for the "true biker" compliment.....means a lot!!

@@twobikesandadrone I put the mic with a dead cat in the cheek pad, its seems to work okay, I guess it depends on the helmet. My Shoei Air 2 is pretty good keeping the wind out and noise down.
