It’s a crazy world we live in when a car that looks like that has over 400bhp and does 0-60 in under 4 seconds, that was top tier super car figures not too long ago. Madness.

@@purwantiallan5089 I think so, at least it is possible on my mg4 trophy, and it's a lot of fun 🤩 Being the xpower the performance version I doubt the took out this possibility
Does it stay off? Had a VW ID and it was a nuisance having to go switch things off every time you turned the ignition off. No option for driver profiles in the VW to remember your settings.
@@tinashetf I would argue that 160 horsepowers on a rear mid-engine car that weights slightly more than a tonne (slightly less than 2500 pounds in freedom units) is plenty of performance, but to each their definition of what performance means I guess.
Just came alongside an Audi S3 at the Traffic lights. The young racer boy looked at me, revved, and smurked. 5 seconds later, he was a dot in my rear view mirror.
@@saaimgussainI can tell you haven't driven a fast electric car, and don't bother saying you have because we all know you haven't if you said what you said.
@@izhamsham843 i driven Polestar 2 base model, nio et7 performance and I sat in a model 3 perfomance while someone was driving fast. The acceleratipn is quick but they all feel like they use the same drivetrain. All gascars feels different the way they pull and react with your foot om the speeder. The electric cars feel the same
@@saaimgussain Again, it's highly suspicious that you said all electric cars feel the same which makes me feel you have either not really driven 1) any, or 2) a lot of fast EVs.. there are marked differences between one motor, two motor, and four motors EVs.. they are all rapid, and they drive fantastic. People just miss the sound and the traditional way ICE engines pull, but the way forward is EV, mate, so better get used to it.
As someone who is receiving his MG4 Trophy in a couple of days i am extremely annoyed this car wasn't announced when I ordered mine. But I am extremely happy they are bringing one pedal driving to mine too.
I actually think for daily use the other new MG4, the extended range, may also merit consideration. XPower is good for acceleration, but it really seems like MG just shoehorned the extra motor in, and 400 plus hp is a bit too much for the chassis to handle. The Extended Range has 300 miles plus range with its massive 77 kWh battery, but also is fitted with the XPower's larger 240 hp battery as a RWD only car. Sure the 0-60 drops to 6.5 seconds, but I reckon it may well be a more balanced car on the backroads.
@@tren133 For anyone charging at home each evening 300 miles of range isn't necessary. Not that 0-60 in 3.7s is necessary either, but you choose what makes your existence better than yesterday.
Had a drive of one of these earlier this week and I have to say it drove better than my Telsa Model Y LR. When I say better, the corner entry/ exit speed allows more, the Y rolls a little further, the straight line speed is fun and glad to see one pedal drive on the MG, needs to be standard on all EV's. Would I jump out the Model Y for it, NO, due to the tech/space in rear, but as a drive alone, it is more enjoyable.
ya body roll on the model y is insane and would not be allowed in a car like that. i drove the BMW x3 right after driving my girl friend model y lr and the x3 is miles ahead. not only more comfortable, quit cabin and way less body roll on corners but it just felt right and way better for the price tag. i hope the new model 3 highland fix all those issues
Yes, the Tesla Model Y is way stiffer and ‘sportier’ in the suspension cadence. Put the x3 if it’s the 300hp into Sport mode and you might feel the difference too. It’s just a matter of taste, rather than a disadvantage/advantage.
@@mariachi202ify being stiff is not the real problem. The problem is that the car trembles hard and noisily when going through little constant potholes. You feel like the car is breaking into pieces. You don’t ear that with the bmw x3, it’s a way more luxury/heavy noise comparing with rattles from the model y. Also it has a lot of body roll unlike the x3. It is like for tesla, sport only means going fast in a straight road 0to60
I've had my X Power a week now and love it. Swipe menu down from top of screen that's where you'll find the button to turn of Electronic Stability Control
Yeah, in a straigth line. If I'd be in the market for another car at this kind of price point, I'd get a Hyundai or an used BMW over this anytime. As Mat said.
It's the bargain of the decade. Hopefully it'll spur on other manufacturers to produce more affordable EV performance models! It does look like it sits a bit high to my eyes though
How’s it a bargain? Loosing hundreds of pounds each month on a car that will be worth nothing in 10-15 years? Buy a older proper ice performance car and make money.
@@lloyd.8272who tf is gonna buy your super old ice performance car in 10 years when gas will be much more expensive? Ice cars loose about the same value as electric cars so this argument is irrelevant
They would steal your money if you buy one lol. It’ll be worth nothing in 5 years, especially when it catches thermal runaway about 3 years after usage. It’s a heap of junk. But as Mat says, it’s a no brainer to buy one. As in one’s gotta have no brain to buy one.
A fair verdict Matt. I have a Tesla Model Y (Long Range) and have learned that 1) in the right circumstances (ability to charge at home, tax incentives as a company car etc) electric cars are a fantastic, no brainer daily driver and I won't be going back and 2) they just aren't performance cars. As quick as my Model Y is, I'm glad I didn't bother getting the performance version because the acceleration is silent, easy and not thrilling once you get used to it. As a drivers car my old Fiesta ST and even Golf R were in a different league. Electric cars are heavy, one-dimensional, lack feel and demand very little from the driver. I will have an electric car as my daily from now on, but I dream of the day when I can afford to have a second car just for fun. Whatever it is it will be light, manual and petrol powered!
Test a model 3 performance and see what you think about that, it might bridge the gap to the small sports cars. Much more performance and cornering capability than the model y long range. Still quite big though.
@@EwanM11being fast is not the same as having fun, a mx5 Miata is 500x more fun than a model 3 performance, the Tesla is capable but just not fun and not involving
Yeah I had a Model 3 (to be fair it was a Long Range not Performance) and it did drive better than the Y but not a huge difference. Both cars lack feel through the steering, make you feel insulated from the drive and dont have anything for your left foot or arm to do (relative to good petrol sports cars). Don't get me wrong, the Model 3 in particular is really impressive - tonnes of grip on the PS4S's and loads of instant shove with a well sorted chassis. Very quick down a road, but I just didn't feel as engaged as I used to in my little Fiesta ST all those years ago. @@EwanM11

Hey Matt. I generally agree with your verdicts. Not so much with this one. I reckon you should compare this MG to other electric cars rather than wasting so much time comparing it to ICE cars. Of course, the weight is different. It has a 65kwh battery pack rather than a fuel tank.
£36,000 for this really powerful 0-60 mph MG hatchback is super amazing! However, I so think MG should make an EV to rival touring sports cars. I think they should turn their new MG5 EV, which is like an estate, into a fast estate by giving it the same power and 4WD. I bet if they do, the price would only be £42,000 for an MG5 EV estate with over 420hp and 4WD. Lets face it, fast estates are more fun and practical right?!
MG are making a touring sports car. It's called the Cyberster and is due to be launched in 2024. It is sublimely beautiful and will have similar performance to the Xpower.

This is surely the ultimate family runaround. Larger estate for the children and longer drives at weekends. Xpower for shorter hops. It may not suit someone who considers any twisting B-road a racing opportunity, but that won't move the needle on sales figures.
Hi Matt. The GR Yaris has a 10 year warranty. Well its a 5-year initial warranty, but with every service completed within the manufacturers guidelines they give another 1 years warranty. This happens up to the car is 10 years old.

I agree with Mat, avoid this car if you want a fun car. I've had cars that are only fast in a straight line, you get bored of it after a while. This will be even worse with no engine sound.
Not everyone loves the sound of an internal combustion engine anymore. I used to love it but now it just sounds so old fashioned and pointless. So much energy literally being wasted in heat and sound instead of forward motion. I still appreciate it for classics and modern classics but going forward it is getting a bit pointless.
I'm just imagining how much better a VW ID3 would be if it had the option to have a rear motor with ~350 hp. That would make it a very interesting car especially if it wouldn't increase the starting price a whole lot.
The crazy moment when ever I consider purchasing a car I immediately youtube this guy for a review.... wouldn't be very crazy... except I live in a completely differently country.....
Nah sorry, being quick in a straight line isnt enough. Good for an ev is just not enough. Manufacturers just say "yeah we know its sterile so we will just give it lots of power (and weight) As soon as you get used to the acceleration which doesn't take long, there's nothing EVs have to offer in terms of fun
This car is actually quite light (1800kg), especially when u consider an m4 is over 1700kg and has less space. Get some decent coilovers and this car could be quite a fun beast.
I'm not into EVs but this is good value for money. I hope ICEs had those figures and those prices, soon people won't buy ICEs because it's paying double the price for the same performance
This is what a lot of people don't get. People moan about the range of an EV but fill up the tank of a performance petrol and see how far the car tells you it will go before it's empty and its often less than 300 miles, and you'll have paid £90 for that privilege. People moaning about depreciation of EV ignoring that after your warranty is up on performance petrols just the cost or replacing the spark plugs or coil packs is enough to put people off, let alone a turbo replacement or other magor replacement.
It would take me months to get used to driving a modern car, especially with the horrible touch screens they have, I'm always accidentally opening apps or websites on my smartphone, think I'll stick to old cars, easier to drive lol

Anyway, to satisfy a niggling curiosity, I test drove the Xpower....Loved the Xpower ❤! ordered the Xpower!!😁 Not just for the acceleration, although it is great fun 😁, but the whole package is very well put together. So much tech as standard that will cost thousands as 'optional extras' with other brands.
