If only their QC practices were as streamlined as Tony’s presentation. Opening up a brand new Glock priced knife only to find loose switches and deformed pocket clips is unbecoming of his stated philosophy. If MT truly cared so deeply about customers, they wouldn’t fist them with obscene pricing on their tools for the proprietary fasteners. Love my MT knives however, Guardian Tactical’s mechanism is still smoother than MTs and the Kershaw Livewire offers far superior value with its duel springs and magnacut blades.
Mini Hera II is my favorite carry right now. I have 4 of them and they are so smooth and take up no pocket space but have the blade size of my UTX 85 in a smaller overall size. Super impressive.
Into what details? Tony is a poser now. Useless chattering about nothing - all he's capable of right now. And that bullshitt with dealers and Axial Gear company. I was badly wanting microtech otf, earlier, but now, after reading all that crap about tony and his company - no thanks, will never purchase any of Microtech products in my life.
The more videos of Tony I see, the more impressed I am. Seek out his gun collection and Japanese sword collection videos and his podcast series. This guy is Tony Stark just short of the robotic suit. (Delighted Hera II and Hera mini owner, thanks to this video).
aka: “Chinese copies made everyone realize we’re nothing special when 12 year olds in dungeons with power tools can come 99.9% close to our $600+ product for $50.” 🙂
People may not like the political climate they created, but…….Make a hell of a knife though. And they are super nice quality. Can’t say I have an issue with any micro tech I’ve got. Makes it real hard to turn your back on them.
Just bought a ultratech today and I already have to send it back because occasionally when I retract the blade I have to reset it. Kind of disappointed because I've heard nothing but great things about them. Also that's a lot of money for me I'm not rich
Give George a break, working on camera is NOT EASY. It's easy to complain and cry about something so why don't you go talk to BHQ and you get up there and fill his shoes? He's such a bad host? Fix it! Their turn over rate is high so you should have no problem getting on the show! Remember He's an hourly employee that's filling his job role while also doing the content.... like I said instead of complaining why don't you go do it and give us that great host we have been craving!
Microtech gets a tip of the hat, they are one of the very few companies giving the consumer an upgrade and new products at the same great price points. Not gouging the pockets of consumers like the trash Benchmade is putting out.
Really…Benchmade has several new models from $250-$350 of great quality…Microtech??? Most of the Microtech lineup is north of $400…many over $500…seems like gouging to me!
@@theKashConnoisseurCombat Troodons have been 550$ + for a while now. Until they just released this new gen III version. They’re about 400$ for the newest and updated gen III’s. Pretty cool to see them change and improve them while also dropping the prices. I think that’s what the original commenter was referencing.
😂😂 i always laugh at dudes who carry such an expensive knife, as a defense specific tool. If you ever have to use it to defend yourself, it will end up in an evidence locker, and there goes all that money. You can pay $20 for a Ccanku neck knife, or $40 for a cold steel boot knife, and do way better. And not feel the waste of money later when it saves you.
They have some cool new products I would be interested in buying but I still can't get the bad taste out of my mouth from their crappy customer service.
Agreed more “mini” manual models for EDC! Happy about the Socom Bravo mini release and have one in route. The size is great, not too small at all at 7.75” overall and will be much more practical to carry and use daily than my Socom bravo or Elite which are badass and the Bravo is beautiful but like 6 oz and Socoms are 9” overall. I love big blades and all but it would be nice to see more variations around the 8” overall size and ideally 3.5-4.5 oz range. Hoping for a USA made Elite mini comeback also!
Too expensive. Got a counterfeit OTF knockoff of some fancy brand 2 years ago for $45, still going strong as my EDC. Can replace every part in it, can swap blades, change the scales. Paying these premium prices is crazy.
Beautiful cutlery. It's a pity that OTFs are illegal in the UK, otherwise i would have one. I do have a Socom Alpha mini which is an amazing piece of hardware though...
Tony, my man, your products are the best on the market. I know you listen to your customers, so if you bring back a Halo production model I will be a Microtech fan for life! Ideally at a lower price (like you did with the newest models) but I would be happy regardless. Also, I will be a Microtech fan for life regardless… but your fans want a Halo! As the kids say, shut up and take my money!
I lol'd when he said their proprietary hardware wasn't because they wanted to keep people from self servicing their knives. Marfione is so full of shit.
I can't say i'm a fan, i bought a utx 70, soon it started stiffening up the action. I cleaned and oiled following the given procedure, was better for few time then becoming unusable again. I got missfires, to the point where i would need to keep it tip down to let gravity help to be consistent enough in the opening. It was just sad to spend those money to get those problem when for half the price i got a pm3 and it's a joy to operate. I think the fact is sold as "tactical" is a bit off too, the glass breaker drives me mad, cos when i used it, the rebound from the glass made the blade exit from the front a few mm cutting my palm, and the knife cannot be used to hit in a self defense scenario cos the glass breaker diggs in the palm of the user. I think the bigger models should be better but the utx 70 is not a good product to me, it feels like they scaled down the measures but the phisical properties of the components doesnt work the same in a smaller mechanism... heard people getting stiffen action from the exocet too, mini troadon seems fine. U can find other people with the same claims, and for the ppl saying that a strong thumb should help i can say i do have enough, going back i would have got a guardian tactical instead.
Price point, lock/mechanism failures (which shouldn't happen given the cost), soft heat treatment on some steel, and there's rumors they are pressuring retails to not sell competitors' knives.
I've lived in Asheville for 16 years & grew up in Boone NC where Winkler knives is located....How about a Western NC-Winkler/Microtech collaboration!!!! Never in a million multiverses would this happen, but the designs I imagine for it in my head are badass!
Too bad their QC is trash and as a unlucky owner of a Glykon with a rattling slide button that lives outside of the US I have to either accept a rattling piece of crap knife in a 500$ price point or spend another 100 or so to get it sent for a repair that I have no guarantee of. Last time I've purchased a Microtech for sure. Disappointing.
Same here! I was considering to buy Microtech otf, but reading such a bad things about it's products, QC and especially about unfair marketing policy turned me off of ordering one. And now, after I've red about Axial, I will never purchase Microtech. Tony is a richass chuff for me now. And I let all my mates and friends know it! Glory to Ukraine!
Tony is such a bullshitter I've seen so many times where people have sent things in for warranty work. And they don't have parts or are unable to fix And the best thing that they offer when they can't fulfill their lifetime warranty Is offer you a discount on a new knife
He had a perfect opportunity to talk about their soft heat treatment on their M390k and their lock failure problems with the MSI. Could have told us they were correcting those problems and build back some confidence in these models and he didn’t say zip. I really like the Ram-like but not gonna spend money on them until they address their problems and let us know they are working on fixing them.
In that same vein, I have admired Microtech's designs and had a few of their blades pass through my possession over the years, but their general attitude towards the customer always convinces me to sell them off. I've had two seperate poor customer service experiences with them, and Tony, while brilliant, has a smarmy attitude at every event I've met him at. For what Microtechs cost, I should be confident that they will take care of me, and I'm not, so while alot of what they do is cool, I won't be buying another.
@@Cyanobladesthats not the point at all. These are marketed and priced as hard use knifes. For what they cost, there should be no problems. If there are problems, they need to be transparent about it and what they intend to do to fix the design and service existing owners. But they won't, because they want to publicly pretend the problem doesnt exist so as to keep the customer in the dark not knowing, so they don't initiate an RMA.
@@SurlyYerby exactly. And I’ve seen it fail lock tests that weren’t even considered hard whacks. Also, the heat treat is very bad for m390. They should take ownership of it it as a company and correct the issues.
I just finally received my Blue Two Tone Warhound Ultratech. I really want the new Hera II, however i can’t decide now between Hera II, Manticore X, and Medford 😫
I had some pocket lint render a MT OTF completely useless one time, was the last time. Maybe woulda happened to any OTF but it didn’t, it happened to my expensive MT. Overrated, I would rather get one from his son over at Heretic knives. However is see they are making these a little more serviceable since they know that a tiny bit of debris or lint will make it useless. I don’t rely on any OTF alone anymore.. Hard to beat a good auto but can never replace a good lock blade or fixed blade.
I had an older Scarab that was too hard to deploy. My new gen 3 is perfect. Love it. Want more of the new models. Hoping the Ultratechs are available soon.
Oh wow how the fk did I miss this. They didn't promote the hera mini... just troodon, ludt, hera 2 and cypher. Then I did see the socom mini and matrix on round 2. Only one I could get was the cypher.
Anyone that is interested in a D/A OTF should buy a cheap one also. Learn how to work on the cheap one before you go at the better one. I love my Microtechs and I love Blade HQ.
I have a Mini Socom from 1998 and I could definitely use and upgraded model, new LUDT is also on this list still some of the best knives I've used well done.
On the balde of the LUDT next Gen presented few weeks ago on the Microtech YT channel, there is only the eagle's claw as logo (it's minimaltistic and beautiful, in the mood of the time). Does there is this or the classic writing logo ?
I’m not worried about warranty parts per se; what’s really gonna break besides springs? Having said that, on my original scarab, a spring had failed. I managed to repair it despite the proprietary fasteners. Couple years later I had another failure and decided to send it in. It was gone for a solid month for just a cleaning. I’d requested they change the springs, noting one was already repaired. I wish MT had taken the time to change my springs, esp considering I’ve so many of their knives and they know it. I love MT OTF’s, but still disappointed they didn’t bother to make my knife 100% with new springs. Oh, shit. I just remembered my socom auto! They flat out refused to replace the broken spring because according to them the lifetime of the product was reached. I bought a decent substitute. Shoot; what was I saying about springs?
I should also say I’ve bought plenty more after these two episodes. So take my nonsense with a grain of salt! Gen 3 fires hard but so easy. I MISS the groove on the spine though(scarab 2).
I had to stop the video, his incessant not stop verbal diarrhoea was doing my head in, imagine being his missus and having to listen to him all day and night 😂
I love their knives but the self congratulation at the end is pretty tiresome-esp when their level of innovation at this point is p much in line with everyone else in the industry at the moment, ie, Take a popular model and make it bigger/smaller, maybe add a new colorway and magnacut if possible. (Or torx screws-WOWWWW) It’s like Spyderco but with more ninja energy
