I just got burned bad on a Hellhound vi.. I don't even want to talk about it. But it was razor sharp looked amazing and it came with a Holster and the box/ paperwork and a very small tool to tighten the nuts.. now for sure I don't think I will ever be able to get my hands on a Authentic Microtech..
That's cool he's had the same microtech for 22 years. Something about buying quality stuff and keeping it a long time is so satisfying. I hope my UT works for 22 years or more.
Yeah except with some production now heading to China, it's just gonna make it easier for them to make a counterfeit. So this video coming out is informative but I also feel like it's Microtech also covering their behinds. Definitely looking forward to seeing how Microtech will combat this going forward.( i buy from dealers exclusively except for some of my Customs )
Same with the Benchmade knives. Ever since they started sending some stuff to China for production, their knives suck. I’m glad I have a REAL REAL Infidel. Super awesome knife. The later production ones are junk.
Dudes either got half a brain or he’s never held a quality knife in his life. How you buy not one but eight fakes without even knowing seems highly implausible to me. I mean they don’t even offer those color/blade combinations. I call B/S. Probably some 🤡 trying to get one over on microtech and have them service their fakes.
I had been taken a few times in the past. The thing is I didn’t get any discounts, i paid full msrp. Some of these counterfeit look almost like the real deal, most of the time they mess up on the packaging.
I have wanted a microtech for years. I see fakes on WISH but could never bring myself to buy one. I would rather wait until the day I can afford a real one.
And then youtubers make disassembly videos, showing internals, and Counterfeit makers buying your product and then replicating it… it is scary seeing how far counterfeiters will go. I am about to purchase my first a Blue Two Tone Warhound.
I purchased an OTF through TACknives USA. Looks suspiciously like an Ultratech, but it DOES NOT CLAIM to be a Microtech product. D2 blade steel. 6061 aluminum & carbon fiber scales. Excellent lockup & function. $130.00. 👍 If I could afford an overpriced Microtech blade, I'd have one. Some folks just don't have $400+ to throw away on a "quality" product. That's why the clone market exists. 🤔 Microtech's outrageous prices created the need for affordable competitors. Sorry.😞
Microtechs may be the best knives ever, but the fact is, I simply refuse to spend upwards of $500 for a knife. Mainly, and sadly, I don't have that much disposable income.
I was at a friends house yesterday and he had another friend stop by. I noticed his knife was a microtech and asked him about it. He quickly admitted it was a clone from china. I said man you gotta love them. They believe in dragons but not trademarks or patents
I would not be happy that I’d have to not only pay for return shipping, but for a knife that’ll be damaged-because y’all couldn’t stand seeing your name, so decided to scribble atop it?! #thanksobama
Even if i wanted to spend 400-500 euros on something what seems to be a fidget toy/collectible to most, it seems pretty much impossible to go through the proper and legal channels and actually get one delivered in Netherland where all knifes except butter knifes are prohibited. The knife collecting dorks who order as much knifes as they can hoping to proof who the biggest nerd of all is also works off-putting for interested people who maybe want to buy their first microtech.
I bought a fake just to see what it looked like. Yea, it looked like a Microtech but the whole thing was just wrong. The blade was a Hellhound and it was laughable. Reputable and authorized dealers only. I added reputable myself. If a dealer is authorized but jerky, spend your money at the nice knife place. I finally got my hands on a Combat Troodon Bounty Hunter with a Hellhound blade. It's a real one. I get it out and look at it like Ralphie looked at his Red Rider BB gun.
I bought a counterfeit and own a true microtech. I bought the counterfeit as a comparison to show other local knife fanatics that you truly get what you pay for.
Working in machine shops myself for 30+ years. Egg cartons are an economical way to separate, store and carry a bunch of smaller parts from one station to another without having them banging against each other and damaging their finish.
@@Dill0n1 You're welcome. That is definitely a valid question, and I enjoy helping others understand more about my chosen field, even if it may not seem like much. Things like that, we take for granted, but certainly look odd to anyone that has not been around manufacturing/ machine shops. Have a great one!
When the family at microtech and marfione customs put in the effort to bring you unsurpassed quality having a real microtech is not just having a brand name knife it is being part of a family. The people that produce these counterfeits do not care about quality or what Anthony and Susan put forth in there lives to bring you such quality. I would personally head up a counterfeit department just for microtech to go after these counterfeiters if they did not have one already. MICROTECH LOYALTY!
Majority of people that buy knockoff microtechs know they are fake. They buy them because it’s $40 and it looks almost identical to real ones. Also people just use them as fancy box openers. They know they blade steel is trash and it doesn’t keep an edge. Still cost $40 vs $350! I could buy a fake micro tech and a real gun for the price of one real microtech. Just sayin! Real is always better than fake👍
@@isaakjunkeer785 Understandable if they do not want to invest in quality for a real microtech and just want a paper weight. The true issue is those counterfeiters using the name microtech and copyright infringement not to mention if they hold patents on anything. I could picture microtech as stand up of a company as they are that if every counterfeiter was apprehended and microtech could take all the money the counterfeiters got they wouldn't take it but tell them give it to the people you sold this crap to. I still want to see Ray cut a counterfeit in half.... I might just do it myself (smiles)
I have 6 MT's. I have met Anthony, introduced myself and shook his hand. He did not call me brother. Microtech is just a company that makes quality shit. Nothing more.
@Member Berry You do what you do, buddy. The chances you actually will have to use a knife in a defense situation it probably just as slim. Also, most microtechs come with a lanyard hole where you can wrist wrap the knife. Furthermore, if you're even in a actually defense situation and police are involved, you can get the knife after the investigation is done. True, all knives can fail, but here's a story. My buddy bought a new 22 pistol for around 280-300 and thought it was a good deal to save money. That thing jammed on him almost every shot. You get what you pay for. Like I said, do you, buddy. But also the other point was making people can go buy a cheaper OTF or knives from other manufacturers, just not clones/counterfeits. Thanks for the comment, though. Be safe.
Not really. It literally costs 100 bucks to make an otf that’s reliable, but they sell it for endless amounts over 300. I’m sorry, but a knife with 440C like a lightning otf will last a couple months in edge without sharpening, if you use it heavily. And blade play? Literally the same. Its known that double action otf knives have it heavy, even microtech. I sent mine back and kept my lightning elite otf, and if I want something really reliable, I grab my s&w m&p single action otf (no blade play) that costed 50 bucks. Microtech is a rip 👎
@@mydoto I got one of their larger production models, came out to be about what a ZT costs. They're not cheap, but they're also not cheaply made. There are many great budget knives, there are even some great budget OTF/Autos; however, they're probably not gonna be quite as nice as the microtech or won't have as good customer service.
They used to be. I got a brand new Microtech last week and the quality was horrible. The entire thing was poorly made - uneven blade, sloppy switch, etc etc. Genuine Microtech off of DLT. The high end counterfeits have better quality control.
Using the highest quality proprietary parts to prevent the owner the right to repair. I can't believe the speaker straight up said to not but Microtechs from Gunbroker. What he meant was; "don't buy used Microtechs because we can't make money on those." Then there's their desire to threaten sellers with removing their products if they sell other U.S. OTF brands. I carry a signature series Combat Troodon, but God, I hate Microtech as a company. They stifle competition, intentionally prevent repair and do everything they can to squeeze the customer of every penny.
I've had to unfortunately tell some customers the Microtechs they sent in to us for trade were fakes on several occasions. My most recent experience was someone who bought a "Custom" Marfione SS Ultratech with abalone inlays for $1200 without a box and they wanted $2500 for it, but the knife they had was a single edge machined satin blade (that custom never came in that configuration).
My go to is the m&p single action otf for reliability, and the lightning elite otf for fidget. The m&p literally has almost no blade play and its 40 bucks with high carbon knife steel!
Great video Ray. I have a few Microtechs, I am not planning on selling them (full stop). But if something happens to me, hopefully they go to someone who appreciates them. If they don’t, what is the best way to sell them to get their maximum value?
Just purchased one from an authorized dealer from the website. Found what I was looking for and now I might be going back for another. Awesome knife and quality you can feel. So happy to purchase a USA made product.
I love my DHGATE copy. I’ll never be able to spend $500 on a knife but I am happy with what I received for $50. But I do think that it’s wrong that they use the microtech name and logo. That is, I think clones are fine but not counterfeits.
It's not the real deal but it serves it's purpose I buy discounted knives and for self protection .I couldn't justify throwing a 500 knife away if I had to use it in a self defense situation.
@@marknorwood8507 If you need to stab somebody in self protection, $500 will be the least of your worries be serious. You buy cheap blades because you are a cheapskate.
@@marknorwood8507 So if you had to use a knife for self defense you'd rather use a cheap knock off to protect your life? That's wild, personally I'm using a legit knife to protect my life as I feel my life is worth much more than $500
Have two fakes and 1 og 70 utx, og keeps breaking a spring fakes work flawlessly in d2 hold great edge. Live in canada where its prohibited , dh gate allthe way
I mean, the biggest way to tell you are not buying an authentic Microtech is the price. I have never seen then resell for half the price of its original value. But even then, I'd be cautious going on places that claims to be selling an authentic one for the "correct" price
What a shame that this is happening. Guys these knives are expensive because they're made with premium materials by American craftsman. If you're seeing a price more than about 10% under retail, assume it is fake. I would only consider a private party purchase if its a USED knife and the seller had the original invoice from an authorized dealer.
I own a few genuine Microtech OTFs and bought a cheap clone for $30 to see what the internals looked like. Misfire within the first 20-30 cycles of the blade. Misfires probably 5% of the time and with no predictable cause. Blade is mystery metal and will not retain an edge beyond 50 cuts in cardboard. Buy nice or buy twice.
What an informative video. Ray, I think your new blade dimple is awesome because that there is a story, all for only the price of a tiny mark. It's a great conversation starter that you can talk about if anyone asks you what that mark is. So cool.
must not get out much to be so fascinated by a dimple in a piece of metal 😂 and try to idolize from a distance, you dont have to be so forward and on the mans balls.. i have a feeling you would suck this man off if he told you he got bit by a poisonous snake and needed you to suck the venom out 😂😂😂
@@whoeusbsknsi Firstly, have you seen dimples? They're adorable. Secondly, I may not get out much, but at least my dad says I'm special. And fourthly, I'm super smrat & would never fall for another person's ball tactics. I mean get real! So funnie
@@pateralus9 sorry we got off on the wrong foot.. can we start over fresh, pal? & can you do me a favour? i think i got stung by a bee, and i’m allergic 😵💫 u wouldnt let me die now would you? 🫣
I purchased a counterfeit Glykon just to see what a $60 version of a $600 knife would be like. The only real giveaway was a subtle defect in the LASER marking although the fit and finish was inferior to the genuine item.
58-62hrc. For which steels? Most steels that Microtech uses like m390 and Elmax 58 is too low. Most people agree that below 60hrc is too low for those steels. I love Elmax and I found a huge difference in 58-60hrc to 61-62hrc and 65hrc which is one of the best stainless steels I've had edge retention wise only beat out by m398 at 64hrc and s90v at 63hrc.
You are out of hoodies on the website, probably not telling you too much because you’ve been out for over a year. If you wanna sell hoodies, then you gotta make sure they’re in stock.
Counterfits that have the branding are meant to look like the real deal but not function like one, the clones on the other hand that do not copy the branding are meant to be used. Ill buy clones all day. This video was better when you made it on your personal RU-vid account where you dont say your name or disclose yourself as a microtech employee. Saying this from the microtech official page with your company logo on your shirt dosnt have the same power as when you make yourself look like a civilian
Ray looks like the long range shooter X-Ring . Like a lot. I thought he was him when scrolling RU-vid lol. Anyway, that dimple is a honor mark. Wouldn't be upset at that at all man. 👍🏻🐍🇺🇸
@@XRING yea I actually watch your channel as well as KB32's lol. I figured it out pretty quick especially when I saw the channel name too! Lmao. Take care man. Thanks for responding sir. 🐍🇺🇲
People may scoff intially at the cost of a Microtech but there are good reasons why they cost as much as they do. I have seen counterfeit Microtechs at pawn shops before and to someone who is not in tune to the details, they indeed do look like the real deal. Unfortunately, just about every major knife manufacturer has counterfeits. The ultimate tool here is educating the consumer on how to spot the fakes. Great video!
The reason they cost so much is because fools buy them. They are worth 200 on average not the insane overpriced 400+ price tags for a knife. You can get a legitimate Japanese chefs knife for that much. Give me a break

I've seen situations where thieves have swapped counterfits with real items at Dealers. They take the real knife and put the counterfit back. Shameful.
Great video. It’s also flattering to know they try so hard to copy your product. Means you’ve really made it in the industry. Now I heard the counterfeit Emersons are actually better produced than the genuine…
I recently got a Brachial shadow from you guys and can I say that the blade is scary sharp. The sharpest of any blade I’ve ever gotten and I’ve owned a lot of pocket knives
Ray thank you for your knowledge and time. I have only ever bought from your nc branch and dlt great video. Again thnx and can't wait for the next video.
Met Ray at Bladeshow TX 2023 at the MT booth while handling a few blades and own a few MTs in my collection. Most recent is a Socom Bravo mini in route I’m super excited about as I have wanted a Socom mini since the aluminum handled versions. Should be the perfect size for EDC and hopefully MT will offer more manual models in similar sizes. Loved the part where Ray Rockwell tested his old faithful Socom EDC! Wasn’t expecting that!
I got a couple knock-offs from Wish, there's a bunch on there. $10-$20 bucks, it's nuts! I'm not staking my life on them or anything, it's just for fun and to open the mail or packages. Don't need $400 to open the mail, but it's still fun to use an otf! The fake is truly a masterpiece. Laser details, heft, strong springs, no wiggle, super sharp. Same security screws, etching, glass breaker, detailed pocket clip and even oem looking box and paperwork. My latest one even came with a little security screw tool for opening it. It would be nice if there were any clues we could have to check if they are knockoff. For example how would anyone know even if they DID want to buy a used one?
I'm here in Texas where we can carry just about anything. I edc a Dirac Delta and I've loved every moment. I'm wondering if yall will soon make otf knifes with bigger blades. Yall keep em coming
Yeah let those who are using fakes and that think they're okay handle and use an authentic microtech lol I bet you anything they'll be ordering themselves one or probably more 🤣 I own a few and absolutely love each and every one of them! Nothing cuts and hold up like a true microtech will, now if we can talk Tony into testing out some magnacut that would be sweet lol or even using some different steel choices like cruwear or S90V would make an already amazing product even more incredible
The microtech ones are the best of that there is no doubt, but they are too expensive, I know that quality and price go hand in hand but I am a collector and they are prohibitive at the moment.
