Very helpful just took the unit apart like you said not to and ruined my spring. Was going to order new one but if not needed then I won’t get. Thanks for the video much appreciated.
Hello cap and I've been using mine without that Spring for years already. So there's no need for it. Basically, that is there just for looks. Because it doesn't help you that much. It is a pain because it breaks down all the time. Thank you for watching captain and now you're safe
mine popped after one use and it was the black one!!! shame for minn kota to use this so fragile and truly useless part. thanks for the video, agree 1000%
I'm glad your Minn Kota did not get you stranded or hurt! I noticed in your Bahama's video you were snorkeling while the Minn Kota was holding its position...how horrible would it have been if this occurred while you were out snorkeling and the boat started drifting away. Great video as always, Cap't...pet pup pup for us!
Sorry to hear that captain and that's the best thing to do when this happens it's just rip it off and continue your fishing trip but it is under warranty if you have the warranty still available captain And I'm glad this video has helped you thanks for watching
Thanks Rudy En el procsimo video me vas a ver corriendo la lancha de noche ese video fue antes que ablamos del peligro de navegar de noche. Saludos cap .👍
Thank you Captain for that information. When we are able to get one again I will look out for this. Maybe it is a blessing that I have not been able to find one.
Yes Williams now when you look for a new one you can check it out if it's the new replacement audio replacement and make a better decision on your Minn Kota
Thank you as usual for your wonderful videos. FYI and you might already be aware of this but after stowing your trolling motor be sure to lower the depth collar as far as it will go and tighten the screw. I made the mistake of not doing that with my Minn Kota PowerDrive and I hit a good sized wave and within a spit second my trolling motor went from stowed to fully deployed. Luckily I didn't experience any damage.
thanks cap for the heads up and sorry to hear that and mine i have a bracket on the head with a claw grip that helps the minn kota in case of that happening, but in your case that is a awesome safety cap😉👍⚓
I tell you what. It is much easier to deploy with this "lift assist" that is the value of the spring. Otherwise you are having to provide some the tension with your hand to keep the motor from just slamming down.
Bummer. I just mounted my minn kota and it has the same the white version. Did you have to bring the motor and leave it at the shop? Was it a quick repair?
They told me the old white one has a softer material and the new replacement is a stronger material so you may want to keep an eye on yours or get a replaced now since it's in warranty
This happened to me twice last summer (2022) on my fresh water terrova (72" shaft). Was fixed under warranty. Heard from other fishermen that this is happening on the 72" shaft models with lift assist systems. Talked with Minnkota and found out that the lift assist band is the same length on the 72" shaft as it is on shorter shaft models. Haven't heard of this problem being an issue on the shorter shaft models. I'd think if Minnkota used a longer band on the 72" shaft it might eliminate this from happening. In the future I won't be extending my trolling motor as far as it can be lowered, leaving more of the lift assist band in the lift assist housing. Hope this will help with this situation from happening again.
Thanks cap. And this happened again to me and what i did is remove thatt feature altogether because it will happen again since i have to lower my shaft all the way ,thanks for sharing your case cap im sure ot will help others
Bad thing is we become dependent on them. It changes our life for single handing a boat. Most people say they won’t have one cause of some of the problems they can have. My opinion on it …… if most people knew how many moving part are buzzing around in an outboard motor they wouldn’t go ten feet from the dock. Maintenance, and a little adventurous mentality make for life long adventures and memories that you get and we can watch on you tube. Be safe my friend 🛥. P.S. fishing is getting really good up here in Destin.
You are so right Captain the engine of an outboard has thousand moving parts and we still go out there and thank you for the comparison it really makes sense for them and have a great fishing trip to Destin cap.👍👍
They can charge 300 more dollars because it is a "lift assist" - lol. Definitely a weak spot to keep your eye on. I'm curious do you think an 80 pound thrust would keep your boat as steady as the 112 when you spot lock in the ocean? Or maybe it would do as well but just use more battery? Another great video captain, keep them coming!
@@OutOnTheReef Thanks, my boat is similar in size and weight and I'm just looking at the options. I saw footage of a 112 pound thrust minn kota keep a 33 foot boat in place in 22 knot winds. These things are just very impressive!
@@beentheredonethatoriginals5673 yes there are it is an awesome equipment and for the size of your boat I really recommend 112 thrust anything smaller will be harder to keep you in a position
Captain, I’m on the fence about buying a Minn Kota due to all the issues people have had. It’s a 6k$ option from my dealer. Do you think it’s worth the $? Are you still happy with it after you have used it for so long? Would you buy again? Thank you sir.
Yes captain even if it breaks within a couple of years I'll still get another one because it's worth the money for the use of it I can't see myself going fishing without it is 1 of my best tools to be at 100 or 300' deep fishing without anchoring is amazing
Thank you for your reply captain and thank you for all that you do with your channel. I’m on the west coast and only able to make it out to the Bahamas and FL once a year of I’m lucky. Watching your channel helps fill the gaps!
@@kellertv that is awesome cap that you can visit beautiful Bahamas, im waiting for the covid regulations to go away so i can go again. Hopefully i will see you at Bahamas one day cap. Thanks for reaching out and navigate safe cap.👨✈️🛥⚓️
im exited for you cap. your fishing will change 100% hope you have a good install cap, if you dont have a battery brand in mind check out the ones i got in the description below there is a link , they are 100 apms and they cost about $150
Hey Capt Crooked you know what they say if it’s not one thing than it’s another. Remember what boat stands for No not that Break Out All Tools Lol 😂 JT 🇺🇸🇺🇸🐟🐠🎣🛥🌴⛱🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi Capt. They told you to take the bottom piece off but not the top piece.? For the life of me, I can’t see where the top piece does anything but hold the coil. No wires that I can see, no controls. I’m like you, I think the whole thing, (lift assist) is probably worthless. Not really that much help.
Why not just remove the bottom and top piece completely? If it doesn't help with lifting and you're saying it's only purpose is to keep the top piece from bouncing around, just remove both. Unless the top piece has another purpose that I'm not seeing.
@@OutOnTheReef How is it possible it will not work? It looks like it only holds the coil. Removing it would allow more depth by a few inches. I am very curious to why it would not work. Maybe they mean that the lift assist will not work?
