Captain, I know you run heavy but you need more pitch. That 4.2L should be able to turn a 15-17 pitch in my opinion. Remember that it's rated 225hp@5500rpm at WOT with a range between 5000-6000rpm. So, the motor should have enough torque to turn a 15P-17P and be at least at 5500rpm WOT. Now., you need to optimize your engine height as high as possible without slipping and make sure the boat runs level without porpoising with the trim tabs and motor trim at zero deg. (not all the way down but in the middle) in flat water. That tells you your center of gravity is correct. I think you should see 2.8-3.0 mpg at around 3700rpm@ 27mph. I'd stay with 3 blades for more efficiency but if center of gravity is off, a 4 blade will give you more stern lift and reduce porpoising and you can mount you engine even higher to retain efficiency. Good luck. Prop clear!
Capitan para nosotros fue un placer conocerlo y pura suerte coincidir con usted en Bimini. Usted llegando a Bimini y nosotros saliendo para Fort Lauderdale. Esperó verlo nuevamente. Gracias por sus excelentes videos.
Hey Cap, I think you need a bit more pitch on the prop, based on the RPMs you were getting in rough seas and a loaded boat, I agree I think you were under pitched. The motor certainly was not laboring but I think if you step up to the next pitch you will be fine. I think you will be able to drop RPMs by about 600 and get the same speed you have now. I don't think you will see a big improvement on the 4 blade speed or MPG but I will be super curious to follow you and see what prop you land on
great info cap but what you think about going to a bigger diameter , the one i have now is 14.5 , what you think about increasing the diameter to 15.75 and keeping the 15 pitch , would that be helpful?
Hey Captain I've been watching your Videos for the last couple years and you have provided me with some really great ideas, such as the Generator and the ac system that you rigged up for the crooked pilot house. I chose to go with a marine air ac system and spent the $$$$ to do so. I really pondered putting in something similar to what you did. but with me owning a Plumbing & Ac business i went with the water cooled system and had installed it on My C Dory 26' Cruiser with the help of my employees. We used the same type generator that you use and it ran the ac system perfectly Along with other things while we were in Everglades Np in Flamingo for 8 days April 24 then travel down to Cudjoe Key for another 8 days. we then trailered our boat back to our beach house outside ocean city Maryland. I was looking forward to making a trip from florida over to the Bahamas such as you do coming this February or March 25. Would you be kind enough to point me in some direction as to where you start your Journeys over to the bahamas from. i frequently watch your videos and try to educate myself on your Voyages. Thank You Lou
@LPerti hello Lou And thank you for being a long time. You were off my channel and you had an awesome trip there, captain, a lot of days spent on the water. There's nothing like it.Me and you love the same lifestyle. And as far as boat reps there is 2 in Miami, Crandon Marina Biscainebay and Halover Marina those 2 are the closest to Bimini Bahamas cap
It was a pleasure to meet you in Bimini Captain. I'm sorry to hear about the propeller not giving you the best performance, it happen to me with my 350 Verado until I found my middle happy. Just keep playing with different pitch propellers.. Sorry, i took your spot for checking in Bimini 😂 ...I hope you had a great time out there.
@JavierMartinez-zf7dz hello Javier and it was a pleasure to meet you and you can take my spot any day cap I was just kidding, you are a great person I can tell, and hopefully we can meet again cap. Navigate safe my friend 👍⚓️🛥
Haaa ok. La razón por la que pregunto es por que yo tengo una igual de tamaño pero como no tengo mucha experiencia pensé que ir en olas como esas o correr mas omenos rápido era un poco inseguro
Try turning point propellers on there website put your brand boat motor weight and etc. Give you there recommendations on what size and pitch prop to use i run there props on my yamaha never had issue with it for a 8 years now.
@OutOnTheReef I had the same issue with my boat not turning the rpm not getting out the hole shot now it runs wot around 5800 to 6000 rpm runs perfect now got another prop from them 0ne pitch down for when I load my boat down so I don't lose rpm.
@@john_rocks_jax That is a good choice captain having one pitch down propelled For when you're heavy loaded, that makes sense.Thank you for telling me about this company.I will give him a call.I have a list of places that I gotta call to see who gives me the best information. Thanks captain
@OutOnTheReef it's the sea keeper trim tabs they fit on the stern where normal trim tabs would go , look them up there really are a great product, only been out a few months now ..safe navigation captain
Long comment incoming. When you installed, your prop to pad looked to be correct so I don’t think you need to raise your motor. I’d definitely look more into props. Granted, my boat is not a Parker Pilothouse so I have to keep that in mind making this comment. But, that said, my Sportsman Heritage 231 (23 foot CC) weighing roughly 5,000 loaded with gear, people, fuel, etc. matched with the Yamaha F300XSB2 averages right around the 2.5/2.8mpg (4000/4500 rpm) running around 28/29mph. The prop on my motor is the saltwater series 15-1/2 X 17 3 blade. Bumping up power doesn’t immediately mean more fuel consumption as others have indicated. Often times a larger engines has to work less resulting in better fuel economy than a smaller engine working overtime. Prop to pad and prop diameter, blades and pitches are the biggest factors for performance and fuel burn. I might have missed it somewhere but what diameter are those props? Everything I’ve seen says 14 1/4 or 14 1/2 17 pitch seems to be the ticket with the 225.
@jeremykey4563 awesome info cap and my prop now is 14.5 and 15 pitch ,what tou remcomen is a 15.5 and 17 pitch? And I need to raise the engine because the engine Hydrophoyle is under water so it needs to como up some I think
@@OutOnTheReef the 15.5 is what’s on my 300. I think that would be a little too big for the 225. But maybe changing from a 15 pitch to 17 pitch 3 blade would be the money. Maybe there’s someone out there that would let you test run a couple different prop pitches so you don’t keep buying? That 14.5 seems to be perfect from what I’ve seen others talking about.
Amigo mis respetos , no se como puedes ir tranquilo sin ver al frente men. Mas con el esas olas bueno no se ven pero por el sonido de tu lancha me lo imagino. Yo no podría navegar asi. 😳 yo tendría que ir viendo aun que sea las olas..por cierto de cuantos pies es tu lancha?

Well, I think is about to do some research and get the right prop for the boat... people here comparing the old engine with the new one 4cyl vs 6cyl. for this new engine should be easy to push this boat effortless and translate to less fuel use. Nice video!
i went thru this prop / motor change issue myself. I found that having my trim tabs and jack plate and trim adjusted right when combined with the right prop made a big difference in economy. my boat likes a 4 blade with zipwakes in auto and jack plate adjusted to condition on the fly. those zipwakes and trim in auto mode make a big difference. boat runs real flat too. your boat does seem to ride bow high compared to most. might get a better efficency running flatter. finding the right prop takes some experimentation to dial it in.
@@DixieSwampman-ce4bx You are so right, captain.Finding their prop size will be a challenge but needs to be done.Thank you for all your comments.Because it does really help👍👍⚓️
@@OutOnTheReef another thing i have been studying with pilot houses (because i want a steiger) is the setback of the motor from the transom. maybe its just me but steigers, defiance, etc have their outboards all set back well behind the transom by design. Parker and couple others still have their motors set on the transom itself. just looking at the boat/motor along its length. i swear, with smaller boats more noticable, this allows the boat itself to act as lever allowing the bow to drop more, under its own weight, going flat raising the motor up getting more of the boat out of the water on plane. i am an engineer so i just think about odd things like that. not that helps you so much but just throwing out some of my observations thru my research for general discussion.
@DixieSwampman-ce4bx Thank you, captain. I really appreciate your comment and you're right. Put in the engine and the platform. It's more efficient. Due. To the boat has more control and it's like the boat is 2 feet longer while being only 21 feet. And thank you for your awesome comment , captain , it really helps👍⚓️
Youre lucky, my 32 Regulator gets 0.8-1.2. But, Yeah, the V6 is gonna drink a little more. Man, I LOVE your AC idea. I am redoing my 28 Albemarle and want to use the same AC concept versus the kind that suck in salt water. Wish you could help me put it in. 🙂I'd even pull the boat to you....
@outlaw19able yes cap I need to be closer to 2.4 mpg But I will get the right propeller And yes the air conditioner without saltwater cooling is mutch better cap
Im still in the desert, but when I get back, we could run together sometime. My brother has a nice Condo on Grand Isle that sits empty all year that I can use anytime.
Hello Captain, it sucks that the new engine is not giving you the right fuel economy. I hope that you can find a solution to this issue. As always, great video!!
Hey check online some companies in Florida tune your boat engine flash etc that give you 25% more power with 25% less fuel economy/ check on line I’m sure you can find a company. I watched a guy on RU-vid get his engine done he’s very happy man now . I’m sure you thank me later captain/ safe travels. ///// fish on 🐠
I love watching your videos I would love to do what your doing. we have a much shorter boating season up here in Boston but I get as much time as I can on the water. why did you swap out the 200 to begin with? Did you need more power?
@edogden2214 Thank you, captain for watching my channel from Boston and the recent.I changed to a bigger engine Was it was lack of power Because my boat waits almost 6000 lbs Fully loaded so the 200 hp This engine was doing too much work
I have a 22 foot walk around with a 06 f225 on it. I was going to get the 200 because of this very thing. I don’t need the extra weight or speed for how I use the boat. When my boat was made the 200 was a v6 now only 4. Good the see the difference.
Most the time a 4 blade prop is best for holeshot to get up on plane in the flats. My 3 blade prop on my 300 gets 2,5 mpg at 4700 rpm on my Parker 25 SE. Performance is matched perfect. Full throttle 6100 rpm, boat loaded and empty. Never stay or run full throttle, but it is matched perfect.
@@OutOnTheReef I will get it when I get back to Tierre Verde. I left the island because of Hurricane. I had Admiral C&B Propeller in Tampa get me the right prop. They are experts in selecting what my boat needed.
Running hard at night is asking for a bad time on the water, the last thing you want to do is hit a sea container!. Give your motor some time to loosen up and the fuel burn should get better.
@@OutOnTheReef Get a hundred or so hours on it and see how she goes, a bigger motor will always burn more juice. How many hours did your old motor have on it and why did you get rid of a motor that was working well?. A FLIR camera would be a good idea if you want to run at night. That will show stuff that a radar won’t (think of a big log in the water). Bottom line is your boat your rules. Stay safe!.
@@OutOnTheReef I've been boating since the 70's and I wish you the best but around 70 percent of night accidents occur this way your boat radar is not as infallible as you think.. There are even celebrity boat accidents to have been noted and with fatalities. Best of luck

Hi Capt maybe your engine may be lower but i also think you need to give more pitch to your original prop, have fun but remember you have a havier engine and V6.
