I went to see Oppenheimer. Pretty good movie. The actual Trinity test was a truly fantastic scene that made me glad I saw the film on the big screen (with big sound).

Actually Alien Romulus will be using tons of Practical effects they even got the same team who did the practical effects in the first alien movie to make the practical effects in this movie and the only main cgi usage is something they cant make irl without it looking cheesy
Don't blame the special practical effects or visual CGI effects for doing their job. Look up the Transformers films - the story didn't make sense to them with machines and gears morphing into other machines. The lazy writers left it up to the FX teams to fill in the details.

When have seen a new movie and people ask me what it was about I always yell "EMPOWERMENT!". What else is there? Trolls barfing glitter? WONKA? Screaming, blood, horrible sadistic people.... YUCK! I really DO want to go sit in a theater on a hot day, and see something huge and futuristic, that is NOT horrifying! And ideally doesn't center around a skinny girl's struggle for empowerment, a tiny warrior-princess triumphs over everything! Maybe we can't do without this, for some reason.

Investors mostly don't take risks, which is why we get lots of safe reboots like indiana jones and shit. Politically correct people are not asking for this.
I'm from South Africa and based on current world geo politics movies about the Russian enemy, USA government, military and cia as forces of good is just not believable anymore. So these traditional types of movies are not appealing to international audiences. Default movie scripts at present seems to be scifi genre.
Thank God over 100,000 books exist in English. We also have enough older TV shows, movies, and video games pre-woke nonsense to last us multiple lifetimes.
If filmmakers want a big, beefy theme that'll support multiple films (which seems to be the in thing these days) why not dramatize Kim Stanley Robinson's 'Mars' trilogy? Interesting characters, epic storyline, etc. etc.
