My neighbour was a training instructor on this helicopter here in Leicester. He came over to mine a few days ago to try it out and was very impressed with the sim and the controls. All the assists were off and he was hovering in no time at all having shown me the start up procedure.

I believe that! You don't happen to have another neighbour certified on the 407?😅. Thanks for your input 😀

excellent work on this video, sir! Looks like a fine start indeed. One thing of note, the reason for the low skid in the hover is not 'transitional' related as the helicopter isnt in a transitional phase, its hovering. The reason is to do with the secondary effect of the anti torque that the tail rotor provides. Whist the anti torque pedal does stop the helicopter from spinning in a stable hover, the secondary effect is a tail rotor 'pushing' the hovering helicopter off to the left (assuming a clockise spinning rotor). In order to counteract this effect, a small right cyclic input is needed (right roll) and this is why in a hover the right skid is low (as would be the left skid with an anticlockwise spinning rotor). If the helicopter was completely flat with the horizon it would quickly start to drift without this cyclic correction. As an observer, this is also an easy way to determine a hovering helicopter's main rotor rotation direction by just observing its low skid in the hover. I hope that makes sense?

Thx, that's right. I don't think I used the word "transition" at all. I mentioned translating tendency so the tendency to drift or translate laterally so we are talking about the same thing here 👍

Great video. last time I played they didn't have the helo functions in the game, but I had the H145 helo which was great. after just installing again I thought I would give this a go. Have no idea what I pushed, but my Oil P went down to 0 and I couldn't get it working again. Decided to search for a vid and go to bed. Great video will have to give the helo another go from the ground.

Love your reviews mate, extremely thorough. I've had the chance to fly the Cabri over the last couple of days, and the flight model has definitely felt far better than the Bell 407. There are some things that probably need to be tweaked to achieve a more 'realistic' simulation, but so far I'm quite enjoying how it flies.

Thx, yes the Cabri definetly has gotten more love 🙂

The weird non-linear jolt in the controls has been a visual oddity in msfs for a long time, in plane yokes as well. As far as I know it's just a visual bug and doesn't affect actual control.

great to hear... but allot of the people starting, will decide between the R44 or Cabri... both internal combustion engines... used for training, the 66 is a turbine... which leads to more advance level. added to the fact that a R44 is available as a freeware heli with MSFS... @@thenerdyhelisimmer4608

Really enjoying your videos mate, I am a heli pilot rated on both the Robinson R22 and R44 helicopters and I have one hour logged on the Cabri G2... I really couldn't wait for helicopters to be released on the sim and overall I am quite enjoying them but there is definitely some fundamentals missing. I think my biggest issue at the moment is that when doing an autoration, the flare at the end is all but useless. In real life you would flare the aircraft to bleed off the airspeed and then only pull collective at the last minute to soften the touchdown. In the same it seems the flare is completely ignored and you just plummet to the ground unless you pull collective, which even at the end of the auto seems to get you about 50ft of lift where as on an aircraft like the G2, you definitely would not get lift with the engine at idle! 😂😂

@thenerdyhelisimmer4608 Год назад
Thx, happy to hear. I had a similar experience, it goes down VERY quickly, Rotors just don't want to overspeed and I got an extrordinary amount of lift out of the blades at the end of the flare. Anyway, autorotation seems to be the hardest aspect to mimic in a lot of sims...cheers

Hey man I love your videos. is there anyway you can do a helicopter for beginners tutorial and give us some free flight lessons. I would like to know about all the things you are talking about.

Just for accuracy, since this is a French aircraft the correct pronunciation is "Gambal".

the starter button on the cabri is on the end of the collective lever right by the governor switch. You can't really click it in MSFS like a regular panel button so you have to bind a key to it!

I was never able to get any helicopter to work in MSFS2020. With the helicopter files installed in the community folder, either the sim freezes at startup or at best the heli will not appear in the hangar along with the rest of the aircraft.

Had a similar issue because the Helicopters folder was in a subfolder. Make sure there is only one folder for the sim to open. Greetz
